Title: Landing a tank?
Post by: Recap on September 12, 2006, 04:10:53 PM
Ok my flying skills are pretty rotten, so often times I'll break the frustration with some tank runs.  I'm getting the hang of the tank pretty well but all of the trips are one way.  The other day I was at a field, and seriously, I must have had about 15 kills in the tank.  At this point, I was really hoping to figure out how to return somewhere and log my kills and see how many I actually got.  Unfortunately, I have no clue to RTB in a tank.  When you spawn, you aren't anywhere near a home base, so where do you go if you want to land your kills in a tank? Do I have to drive all the way to a base and end sortie on a runway or something? Thanks for any feedback you can give.

I'm not sure if you have to... your scores show that you've got 23 kills in a vehicle / boat

could be wrong on this one

If you spawn to another location than your VBase, donīt expect of being able to return. Unless you capture the base, it is a one-way trip most of the time.

According to my experience, it is possible to land if:
- Youīre not damaged
- NO enemy is in a certain radius (donīt know exactly how large but certainly beyond line of sight)
- very close to your spawn point (but I am not really sure about that)

Of course you never lose your kills in any way. RTB, ditch, captured, died, that all does not matter in regard to kill stats. Only perks gained & score points are affected by how you end sortie.

I just pull up the map and go back to the spawn point or just a littl past it. I have "landed" many a vehical this way.

You can sucessfully land whenIf you have no damage, and no enemy nearby and are...
[a]Anywhere within the perimeter of a non-flashing friendly field
Anywhere directly between 2 friendly fields
[c]Within the spawn point area, or behind it.
[/list]

Thanks all for the help. Although the "getting damaged" part probably will eliminate quite a few reasons to RTB.  I say if you can make it there, you should get the credit haha.

if you return to the spawn point, even damaged you will get a landed message, just like landing a damaged plane. That is if the spawn point isn't camped :)

Actually you can even land your tank at an enemy vbase, provided that there is no enemy around. All you have to do is drive onto the concrete and land it, just like at a friendly base. I have done this a couple times after smearing the ack at a field so I can return with a M3.

That's good to know.  Apparently there are multiple options, but need to remember these different factors (i.e. no enemies around).  Thanks for the help.
