Getting a cheap joystick, thinking about the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick, it's only £25 compared to the amount some of you have dished out ;)
Let me know if it's worth it to practice with.

whatever you buy, NEVER EVER Logitech stick
buy cheap saitek
-
Low range prices, try Saitek Evo or Thrustmaster AfterBurner II.
Make sure its got the following:
- 8 way hatswitch (views!)
- throttle lever/slider
- rudder (twisty or rocker)
- as many buttons as you can get :)
Trust me, you DO NOT want a Logicrap stick :).

Get some saitek joystick preferable one with throttle and twisty so you can use rudders. I think its called cyborg evo or so?
Thrustmaster Afterburner 2 worked pretty good for me too.
If it doesnt have a full fledged throttle but only a small lever thats fine, the digital throttle setting isnt that great.
Throttle of some kind, rudder of some kind, lots of buttons and headswitch and your good for start.
Make sure its an 8 way headswitch i fell for a 4 way :(.

what's so bad about the logitech stick ?????

They have a tendency to start spiking after a very short time (weeks) and loose calibration. Basically, they hold no longer then a few weeks average.

aight, thanks guys, i'm going for that cheap Saitek one, cyborg something or other..
