Title: Skuzzy / Hitech small map question
Post by: Mustaine on September 15, 2006, 11:13:55 AM
when working on a possible small map for the new MA's what is the total number of bases recommended? how many zones are used?

I am talking about the 256x256 BALTIC / MINDANAO / NDISLES / SFMA map size.

thanks.

You might want to send them an E-mail asking the same thing, they don't check in here that often.

The terrains you mentioned were built back when the maximum number of bases was 64. Currently there can be up to 255 bases if you need them and the strat is in addition to that base count.  I think you'll find that's plenty for a 256x map.

In order for strat bombing to have any impact, most people would use only one zone per country on smaller terrains but it makes for a boring map, and if you place your critical factories near the front lines, it’s too easy to cripple the countries.  I like multiple zones but it really depends on whether they fit with your design.

Please Skuzzy, what is the maximum base count these days?  Are we at 512 yet? :D

255 is the maximum number of fields/bases in any size terrain.  For small maps, it all depends on the overall layout of the terrain.

128 (or in that area) should be fine and a decent number to shoot for in a 256 square mile terrain.

Most terrain designs, for the arenas, would have 2 or 3 zones per country on a small map.
