Title: Nasty Freeze\Lockups problem
Post by: FT_Animal on September 15, 2006, 09:13:32 PM
I'm pretty sure this came to be after installing the lastest version of the game.

The game just locks up solid, the only way out is to force a reboot. This happens 95% of the time I try to run the game.

Usually it's on the runway just after the engine starts.
A few times it happened shortly into flight or in the tower.

I've checked a LOT of things, tried all default settings on my vid card drvrs.
and video settings in the game.

I DO have an onboard sound card that MAY be causing this conflict. I can't seem the get the legacy drivers to go away so that my SB Live card has full control. I turned it off in the bios and tried to remove all the Legacydriver portions but some remain and will not go away. So SB Live is not in full control.

My system specs are: (and don't laugh) ;-)

Model: OEM
CPU: Intel Pentium EB 1000 Mhz (997) Coppermine-T (Socket 370 FC-PGA)
Motherboard: VIA Apollo Pro 133Z/PM 133 (VT82C686)
BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
Memory:512 MB
Video: Pny Geforce 4 420 MX
Sound: Sound Blaster Live (onboard card involved, legacy)
HDD: Maxtor 40GB \ WD 40GB
OS: Windows XP Professional (SP2)
Connection: Cable\Linksys Wireless
Joystick: Siatek X45 (USB)
DirectX: 9c

I didn't have any problems with the 202 version.  while I built the PC.

Thanks in advance

Make sure you are using the 61.77 version drivers for the NVidia video card.  If you use later drivers than those, you will have problems.

Check the "Maximum Texture Size" in the game's "Video Settings".  It needs to be set to 256 for your video card.

If DXDIAG is showing mulltiple sound cards, you will continue to have problems.  Most sound card drivers are loathe to share interrupts.

Thanks Skuzzy,...

Using the nvidia 71.84 install exe.

MTS is set to 256

DXDiag is showing sound card is fine, although I don't take that as 100%.

Know where I can obtain the 61 drivers for the piece of crap nvida card?

Try here. (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_archive.html)

Got it and installed it. So far it cut my lock-ups by 90%.

One time the textures didn't load right, it was all blue except some distant objects. Another things I have had since either game version and all nvidia drivers I've tried. On the left side of the screen I get random flashes of sky color strip. I'm thinking these are related.

Other then that everything is settling in. ;-)

Change your "Maximum Texture Size", in "Video Settings" to 256, if it is not already set to that.  That should solve the texture loading issues.

I think those graphics issues are just rendering issues from your card, I had similar problems with my last Geforce 4 card.

Nemeth, you are running the NVidia 41.14 drivers.  You must upgrade to the same 61.77 drivers in order to have a shot at the game running on your video chip.

DO NOT install the latest drivers from NVidia for your chip.
