4200 here...........
But can't seem to turn on multiprocessor? tried but it stay uniprocessor?
So acts like a single core?
-
Do you run it on XP home?
-
Check out the sticky thread.
Basically if winXP was properly installed, it should have installed using the "ACPI uniprocessor" HAL. After installing the dual core cpu, it should automatically switch to the "ACPI multiprocessor" HAL. You can tel this by going into device manager and checking the computer entry (first entry in device manager list).
If it doesn't detect it automatically, you can try a winXP repair installation. Just start off a "normal" winXP installation, but then when it detects the old windows installation just tell it to repair or update the current installation instead of wiping it out and starting from scratch.
Then as the sticky thread says, install the 2 AMD patches. There is a microsoft hotfix out there but I don't have a link to it.
-
yes xphome
tried the uni to multi and the patchs.
-
I might be wrong but I have a distinct memory that home supports only unicore and you need xp pro to run multiprocessor systems.
-
XP home supports dual processors.
-
XP Home DOES NOT support dual processors, but it DOES support a single processor with multiple cores.
To support multiple cores you need SP2 installed.
If you have SP2 and it still isn't showing up -
Go to the device manager.
Click on the "Computer" tab.
If it doesn't say "ACPI Multiprocessor PC" do the following -
Right click the "ACPI Uniporcessor PC" entry.
Select "Properties"
Click "Driver" tab
Select "Update Driver"
Click "Next"
Select " Display a list" etc etc
click "Next"
select "Show all comaptible" etc etc
select "ACPI Multiprocessor PC"
Follow through to end.
[EDIT] XP Pro supports dual processors each with multiple cores.
-
I did what you say. I also have sp2.
I went it and set it to mulit.
The AMD cpu info prog says I still only have a single core cpu.
-
How many show up in the Task Manager (Crtl + Alt + Del), under the performance tab.
Should be 2 upper windows, CPU Usage History (one each core).
Also which motherboard and BIOS version you have?
-
only 1
-
got 1 cpu usage
and one for pf usage
-
Also need your motherboard make and version.
Plus BIOS version you are using.
Silly question - You sure you have a dual core CPU?
-
Motherboard is ECS KV2 (with multicore ability turned on)
Bios is VIA Hyperon 456
Box and processor say dual core 4200+Hammer series.
-
VIA Hyperion are drivers not BIOS version.
During boot the BIOS version should appear.
Read of a few of these boards with the same problem, resolved by a BIOS update.
Check the ECS website for the latest BIOS.
http://www.ecs.com.tw
Looks like you need as minimum BIOS version 1.3c or 1.3d depending on what version of the KV2 you have.
-
Board is KV2 Extreme.
bios is now 1.3d
Still no dual core?
-
Get this and run it - CPU-Z
http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

Got it working.
Went to task manager and clicked on view and set it to show all cores.
Then my system saw it and loaded it.
