Title: Frame rate hell
Post by: 53gunner on September 16, 2006, 08:02:15 PM
Howdy Im getting crazy frame rates going from 54 to 7 to 34 all over the place. Im ran FS autostart and killed damn near everything but still got the same craxy frame rates. Lowered all teh graphic things and still have same prob. Here my puter specs. There is all kinds of other stuff on the dx file but message length keeps me from posting.
Thanx
Glenn

go to your device manager (right clic my computer/ hardware/device manager)

you should see a lot of question marks over all your system devices .

get out your main board cd and reinstall all those drivers .

Yep. My frame rates went to hell when they changed the arenas. Now, on a very very good day I will get a frame rate of about 14. My average frame rate though is 3.

53gunner try this:

set your resoultion ingame to 1024X768

set your max texture size to 128

set all detail / graphics sliders in game all the way to the right (performance).

From your desktop (exit the game first) click run and type in dxdiag. Click on the sound tab there. Set the hardware accel slider one notch to the left (so its at the 3/4 postion).

see what that gets you.

cheers,
RTR

The motherboard drivers are still not loaded.  "Standard" drivers are the default drivers, which do work, but are not optimal for the computer.

On the compaq site it seems to me that a newer video driver is available than the one you loaded, but it requires a certain bios as minimum. I am not up to date concerning ATI drivers, so i am not sure if this driver is really necessary but it is one year newer than the one you have loaded.

So check if you have a new enough bios before you install it. Also since skuzzy didnt mention your outdated video driver this might not be the problem and your current might eaven be better than the newer one.

Also there is no chipset driver listed by compaq which i find pretty strange, it might be the display driver already contains them but since you have none loaded i doubt it. ATI though provides chipset drivers for your chipset seperate from the diplay driver, southbridge driver (https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/6-8_xp_sb_35179.exe)  you can see it here https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=293 .

I think they want u to add chip set drivers from the mobo/manufacturer instalation cd. Or, go to the mobo/manufacturer web site and download drivers and install them.

Here is a good site for info on installing drivers, setting up a pc, and basic computer info. Press the download button and read page 39.

I grabbed a copy from http://www.airwarfare.com/tech/utilities.htm (http://www.airwarfare.com/tech/utilities.htm)  and installed it. Double-click on the icon, dupe the default set, configure your heart's content, and click Start.

Reynolds,
I don't want to hijack too far here but...

First, hit the ReadMe--specifically the How to Use section. It's easy to follow--heck I could even do it. You basically create a game profile then select what services & programs you want to whack. Finally, you pick the application FS Autostart is to start after stopping the services and programs you picked.

Using Skuzzy's list at http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=71591&highlight=services+stop is a good place to start. FS Autostart also has suggestions on what services to stop, what not to stop--that depends on your system.

Check out http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=123142 on general hints.

So in my case, it stops the unnecessary stuff in the background, defrags the memory, then starts Aces High. When I quit flying, it goes back and restarts the stuff it stopped.

The motherboard chipset drivers are still not installed.  You will never get that computer running properly until they are installed.

It will work, but it wil not work well.

Dunno.  Compaq's are wierd.  The one we have required us to burn CD's of the OS installation.  It gave us a one time chance to do it as the computer did not come with any CD's.

I have 6 CD's now.  I assume all those drivers are somewhere on one of those CD's, but I have not had to use them yet, so I really do not know.

It serves to remind me to never by an OEM computer.

compaq's are my bain of all the pc's i get used .. even today there still building them with 4 yr old / surplus parts .

one thing you can try is to get the mainboard number off of the board and look it up and try to get the drivers from the mainboard manufaturer website or the chipset .

starting from this info
System Manufacturer: Compaq Presario 061
System Model: EG733AA-ABA SR1620NX NA540

may get the drivers to .

here try this page  for basic info on finding model ect...
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/famiNumbDocument?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=89327&docname=c00004461 (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/famiNumbDocument?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=89327&docname=c00004461)

Now i used  SR1620NX  as the number and ive arrived here
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1127351&os=228 (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1127351&os=228)

this is its Driver page ... but true to compaq form its incompleate in its available drivers  theres no mainboard drivers here ... and what looks like there hidding on your rescue cd .

Gods I hate Compaq's support .. its still AFU even after they merged w/ HP
HP's support isnt to bad and ive had pritty good success with those . but darn compaq ... its still a plague in the pc world that wont conform to standards.

Yeah I downloaded the stuff off that compaq site didnt really seem to help. My puter didnt even come with installation cd's I have to order them (at least that is free). So what Im hearing basically is till I can get a installation cd and see if the have the files on em Im in a holding pattern??? One more question as I am stupid, what the hell does a chipset driver look like anyway?

The EG733AA-ABA SR1620NX NA540 mainboard used by Compaq is an MSI Amethyst-M-GL6E (MS-7184) board built off the ATI RS480 chipset. The reason you can't find them from Compaq is because you need the IGP chipset drivers direct from ATI.  The current version is Catalyst 6.9.
