OK, my old box crashed and it's time to build a new one.
I've been out of the technology updates for a long time and i'm not sure what's out there these days. Is there any1 who just built something nice with the latest stuff and who is happy with it? Money is not too much of an issue.
Any suggestion?
Grazie.

Fiat,

Actually I have AH in mind when I think of the new box. I don't do any 3D animations or graphic. I use AutoCad but in 2D.
The other thing that might be a factor is that I store LOTS of music and photos and I will have to setup a sort of backup system with my existing 3 SATA and IDE hard drives.
I also play with creating music but I doubt it needs a high tech PC. Oh, in my existing box I use dual XP booting. One XP setup ( on the other HDs) is kept very bare just to play AH without all the other progarams. That's what actually crashed twice lately; my backup HD with AH in it ( it happened on an old HD as well as on a new one ) just loses data and partition info. It's 5 years old, built for AH1.
I was also looking for an IDE cable that can connect 3 HDs but I guess isn't being contemplated since I don't see one online.
So really, all I'm looking for is AH frame rate and graphics.
I used to know all the terminology and socket type/ram speed and stuff, now it all looks like russian :)
I might see you guys again in the arenaS soon!
Thanks!

Try going to ExtremeTech and clicking on the Build It tab. Lots of info there.

Here's a clip from skuzzy's reply in the conroe thread...
That's for the 6800 Extreme. I did not pay that much, but it is the most expensive of all the Conroe's. Clock unlocked so it will be some fun.
As I build a computer once every 3 to 5 years, I usually go for the top of the line, so it will last.
Here is the parts list:
Motherboard: ASUS P5WDG2-WS
CPU: Intel X6800 Extreme
RAM: 2GB of PC6400 DDR2-800 Crucial RAM
Video Card: HIS Radeon X1900XTX 512MB
Those are the main items. I will retain my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum sound card, Sony Dual layer DVD burner, Sony DVD-ROM, case and power supply from my old system.

I'm back. Sorry but it has been a lond 2 weeks.
I put side by side specs for Asus P5B deluxe mobo and ASUS P5WDG2-WS but in my ignorance I couldn't really see a difference.
I'm probably going for the Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz 4M and I'd like to understand the differences between the 2 mo-bos. Not mo-fos :)
Thanks !
