This is what we need, a german 88 mounted on what looks like a panther base. Great for tank destroying as well as detroying towns. With the additon of anti aircraft rounds, it would force bombers to a higher altitude when attacking a vehicle base.
Sorry, could not locate any web based pictures of the 8.8cm Flak Sonderfahrgestell.

I think the same thing. After all, a flak 88 would be awsome for taking out tanks, ships, bombers in one shot, ect! or is it a russain gun... ('_')

found one.

Yes, the need for the 88 is long overdue, IMO

Would be great for defense against Armor and bombers.

Yes, but make it so you have to type in .alt and then the altitude it detonates at. Make it more complicated ;)

I'm with you here - there's an 88 mounted on the Sdkfz1 halftrack that looked pretty good as well. There is a definite need for some real mannable field acks, plus the 88 works good as a tank killer and artillery.

artillery? as in bombardment artillery? surely you jest.

Just watch the tiger-noobs cry as you erradicate them with the 88s. Next you know it will be perked twice as high as a tiger.
-
not likely, it seems to have very light armor.
-
Yes, but it will only take one hit on a tiger to kill it. THAT will make the n00bs cry.

Gottahaveit. :aok

Hit me with ur best shot at 30k in my b17 with that 88. Im all for it!

I hear ya army and it'd be cool to try:cool:
Most don't fly their bombers at that alt tho.
-
This will make them fly like that, because it will only take three clicks with a good gunner and the whole formation is gone.
-
I like to fly at alt, idk why its just fun, and id like to be the gunner on the ground too :)

Could the round it fired be modeled like the 5" (maybe a less lethal radius because of the size difference...) guns off the CV's? Don't know if the 88's had prox fuses, but it would definately be nice to have some sort of defense vs. the Buffs that come in above the 37mm's engagement altitude.

It was actually one of their more effective artillary pieces. With the fuse, they timed the shell to explode in the air rather than when hitting the ground, spraying leathal shrapnel everywhere.

Although the original 88s had time/alt fusing (you set detonation alt after determining the enemy altitude with a rangefinder), I'd have to concur that the 88 would have to be modeled as proximity fuse with a smaller radius (maybe 60-67% of the 5" gun radius).
Since we don't have optical rangefinding in AH2 (don't us ship gunners know it!), this would seem to be the only way to model the 88 for game purposes. I'd suggest 3 types of ammo - AP (normal 88mm tiger AP round), HE (normal 88mm tiger HE round), and AA (prox fuse 60-67% 5" gun radius & damage).
The 88 was one of those legendary weapons, feared (and rightfully so) for it's lethality and usefulness. It's a shame we don't have it here.
