All in all the early war arena has been a total blast. Last couple nights the numbers have been way down and the same problems from the old CT popped up.
With less then 30 players I upped from 41 (knight) to 45 & 44. At the time we had "numbers" (3 total I think) so as planes uppped we only engaged as even once guys cleared the coastline. As usual numbers quickly flopped and I found myself 1 on 3 or 4. Once it was clear all of them were "in" (was kind of hoping for 1 on 1 or 1 on 2's). Was primarily my hurricane 1 vs a zeke and spit9. Pinged em both but the zeke forced me into an angles fight and the spitty picked me (all fair and good).
Reupped from 41 in my hurricaneI and ran into them inbound (4 total I think). Obviously all with alt...hurricane II circled and dove in...not a HO put a spraying top down pass with the spit9 staggered behind. Hurricane flew a nice pass and spitty caught me on the break. Basically asked them from the tower how they wanted to play things out (think I used chicken@#$% as the term)...and watched them strafe and deack 41. now we had 4 knights total online and I was amazed these yoyo's would rather "win" the nactually fight.
Of course I was a "noob", "whiner" & so on who was just *****ing cause I got killed. Now obviously I could have upped an A5 and picked em or flown elsewhere (which I did)...but i'd of lifted for an hour no problem even if I lost every fight given a decent chance for some fun.
Now I cut my teeth in AW along time ago. My 1st day was spent being tag teamed by -HR- and Rocketman (one at a time) for hours. Truthfully these guys have zero clue what a real meatgrinder is.
Hopefully this was the exception and not the norm, I'd hate to see early war go the way of the CT....

Because the MA had become an anonym house complex where no one really knew each other or cared about each other. The noobs suffered from this.
But to get to the issues of numbers. Lately the EW numbers have swinged over to the MW. This isnt because of plane set or anything just because of the horrible map that is in EW.
You will see big shifts in arena numbers when there is a booring map.

just wait until you run into a mayfly convention. it's funny to see them do the mating ritual then seemingly drop simultaneously. as this is occurring 200 is full of the "I'm a member of a 90 player squad" song. are they sheep or are they wolves? hyenas? amphetamine fueled chihuahuas?

No 4 cannon plane should go unperked in the EWA! :aok

As a completely new player I'm a little surprised that they let the "Team" numbers get so out of whack on the servers. Even with the perk point multiplier kicked in, it makes for silly gameplay that you can have 30 players vs 2.
Why don't they just "force" even (or somewhat even) teams? Are people that married to the imaginary countries in the game that they won't play as a "Rook" or "Bishop?" I could understand in the AvA area if you really wanted to pick a side, but in the other arenas, the "sides" are imaginary!
I realize that this might cause squads to have difficulties flying together, but there should be ways around that issue.
I guess this has probably been addressed to death already, but as a new player, it has floored me that there is a possibility of me logging into the game as a total n00b and be swarmed by more than 10 times as many experience players... WTF?
-
I switched sides last night as did some others to even things up... that never happened in the old MA.
While the behavior is better in the EW than it ever was in the old MA.... why take chances that you will get fair figthts? You don't have to.
The really good thing about the new EW is that you don't have to fight the whorde... the planes are all relatively as fast..
If you see a big red cloud... don't fly to it.....turn back and circle.. wait till more team mates show up or a fight gets started... No one will chase you back to the ack cause it is too deadly (a very good thing in my opinion)
I seen a player do this at the cv... our guys had won air superiority sooooo...
he circled the ack of the CV till only one or two cons were close and alone and then came out... either dieing or killing and getting back to the ack before more could get to him.... very cool and.... impossible in the old MA.. the CV woulda been sunk in 30 sec.

This game will always have land-grabbers. No big deal. I ran into some last night. 4 of 'em, scared of a single a6m getting off the ground. I upped into their vulch a few times.
I saw their LTV driving across the field.
I spawned a T-34. Their panic was tangible. LTV tried to hide, F4Fs & A6M strafing me like it would accomplish something. Popped the LTV, picked up 3 more "kills" from wannabe vulchers pancaking (including the ltv driver :lol). Dodged a few TBMs who were more concerned with a t-34 kill than dropping the hangar I came out of. Hornet from III/JG rolled out behind me in an M-16 and picked up 3 more kills.
I looked up, no more aircraft. Landed the kills, hopped in Ju88s, and started torp runs on their CV. Then my g/f got home and I had to stop our wonderfully stout defense... never did find out if those torps hit :(
In the EWA, the solution to the vulch is simple... up a T-34. Wait until they're done ramming you with their aircraft (btw, they always lose that battle), and up a fighter. Odds are they have no talent anyways and will be easy kills since they're not used to fighting things that shoot back.

No question that was a viable tactic, or I could have easily upped a 109F from another base. My point was I'd have upped and fought repeatedly given any semblance of "gameplay". Certainly wasnt expecting "fair" fights (after all you can always go to the DA for that). Now these guys deacked the base in less then a minute so ack hugging wasnt the answer either:)

About 5 of my buddies & I decided to leave EW & check out MW last nite at about 9:30 pacific time. We entered as Rooks, but qickly realized that rooks had almost TRIPLE the numbers as bish & knits COMBINED. And, they were working together, focusing primarily on the knits.
So we switched to knits, lifted and headed for rookland, where we joined about 3 knits already in mid fight Vs 8-10 Rooks. Then I start seeing bases captured by bish, a quick view of the map showed they were knit bases-
The very few bish that were on, had decided to "back door" the undefended knit bases, rather than face the rooks and there numbers. Pathetic at best, IMO.

Ya and the rooks in the late war are under-manned.

:lol Yes, Ram, they are. To some folks, the war, the country, the squad... is everybit as real as the world outside. Don't try to figure out why, just don't become like that.

HTC has put a premium on player choice, It wouldnt surprise me, if the players prove to dense to get the point, that there may be some hard limits in the future.

Yes.

]And THAT is exactly the point. It's hard enough when an experienced player has to deal with massive imbalance, but if we expect a new guy to "cope with it or leave" then we're hurting the game.
Period.

Yes some of us have been here for so long that we own real estate in our country .. ive currently own 2 castles, a summer cottage, tavern, sheep pens and a small isle in Rooland .... Yes its Rooland ,Hitech made a typo when he was assigning country names ... :noid
Ive swaped a couple of times (just visiting) but they gave me the mata hari treatments.

There should be some contract you could sign with HTC, disallowing any command of a CV, any use of ground attack ordinance or use of the mission editor, and not be eligible to receive the fantastic Hawaii vacation (otherwise known as 25 perks at reset), etc. that would allow you to change sides to the team with the lowest numbers as frequently as you wished.

Not to sound rude here but, it is sad that anyone would expect anything different. The current game setup dictates this behavior. It is perfectly normal for said phenomenon to result.
The war is won by a reset. Normal thinking dictates that normal people want the reset to happen quickly, as apposed to day after day of hard work.
I have seen many references to Baseball, Basketball ect... made in comparison to balance. The problem with those comparisons is that AH2 isn't a two-sided war. The third element creates something of a paradox where as “balance” is concerned.
Everyone knows that diversion is a key tactic to winning any battle. AH2 makes it possible to use an unknown allie to acheive such a task.
So switching sides to balance things out is kind of like doing a kidney transplant to cure someone’s heart disease.
If balance is to be translated as evenly matched battle? Fogitaboudit. Even I (an uneducated man) know this isn’t going to happen with the current setup.
Until AH2 removes the reset goal, reduces the country count to two countries, you can expect your described scenario to play out time and time again.

Insinuating that these players don’t know the difference from real life and a game is nothing more than ridicule and insulting by nature.
I think it is just the aspect of the "game" that HTC has offered them that appeals to them the most.

It's kind of funny (and sad) that many here on the bbs complain about how others play the game. None have the right to dictate how another person plays and the tactics he/she uses.

I have to agree here. Map design will be a major part of the success or failure to this current setup.
On another note: If HT were ever to setup a Zone system, the maps would also have to be designed around the premise that there be gaps from zone to zone.

It's a matter of perspective. The original "game" was called "Air Warrior", the 2nd evolution was called "War Bird's" and now we have "Aces High". Now to me all 3 indicate a primary focus on air combat. Pardon me if i'm mistaken but I think it's reasonable for me (and others) to believe that "air combat" is the primary focus.
Now if we take that one step further most of us grew up with some measure of competition...usually in sports...but also other venues...lets pick chess.
So in basketball you have normal 5 on 5...or 2 on 2 or 1 on 1...or horse etc...
Football you have tackle, touch "normal" 7 on 7, 2 on 2 with a shared QB...etc
Fencing you have foil, saber & epee...but alwasy two guys with swords...
Even in chess you have pieces with specific "moves"...your castle doesnt move like a bishop.
So going back to our little sim here, yes you have a "war" and war isnt fair. However you also have a "tradition" going back to "knights in the air". Back in AW (air warrior) you had a "3rd man in" rule. Basically you let a 1 on 2 go...the 3rd guy didnt pile on. why, simply to promote game play. Lots of folks will up into poor odd's but few will up repeatedly into a gangbang.
How you chose to fly in a smaller arena enviornment will affect who you have to fly against. We learned that in the CT....

to some people capturing bases is the idea of the game...... and you could argue this is true.... or why would HTC make it posible?
they had a "fight" for the base, killed defenders and started attacking the field. big deal.
its not THERE fault HTC split the arenas so theres NO players around to defend bases anymore. I mean i was on yesterday in Midwar with only 20 players on my side 30 on the other two. Bish managed to take 5 bases from knits, because the only defender was me. Once fuzeman, and a few others (sorry i forget names!) came back at them, we quickly recaptured them all. But rooks then did the same, and i logged because it was boring (re-)capturing undefend fields in a under populated arena.....
....but i guess 3 arenas is good for gameplay.:rofl

Air combat may be the primary focus but it's not the only focus. Air Warrior is dead, this is Aces High II. If it has other avenues of game play than AW the that's the way it is. The toys we have to play with were givin to us by HTC. No player in the game has the right to dictate how/when/where they are played with. This bbs is home to a small but very vocal group of people who constantly post they don't like "X" so "X" must go away. If you can't accept all that AHII has to offer then maybe AHII isn't right for you.

no one has said "X" must go away. please post evidence to support this statement.
most of the posts regarding "X" state that the poster considers "X" a lame player.
I don't want "X" to go away without prey animals we airsharks would starve.
I'm just a dogfish now, just wait until I become a great white.

Oh how I enjoy seeing bishnits whining about numbers. Back in 2002-2003 when rooks spent months fighting 3:1 we got responses such as WAAAAAAAAAA on regular basis.
Same back at ya, friends. :D
You gave no mercy back then, don't expect ANY.

its not about sides, its about overall numbers playing with 15:15:20 IS NOT FUN.

Yes.
Despite what anyone might say, there is plenty hate between folks. The thought of helping those you cant stand doesn't rest well.
HT will have to force change to even up the sides, or hope that noobs fill the ranks.

Overall numbers mean nothing. The relative skill level of each country is whats important. How many top 10 players are on each country? Top 100 players, top 1000? It would make no difference if Nights out numbered Rooks by 2:1 if 50% of the Nights just stepped off of the short bus.
-
Sure does. Many are incompetent, but can still shoot you down..... if they have 3 other guys with them. They're not THAT incompetent.
Anyway, I would like to see more pilots with balls. People not afraid of death, and not so attached to winning a field, as to becoming competent pilots. Timidity is to be pitied and despised. Learn to love your death. Learn from it. Become a flying beast, and mock any pansies who refuse to fight you 1on1 even when you give them the advantage.
Winning a war over and over is not rewarding, because you haven't won if you refuse to learn anything as a pilot.
-

Rank means squat ... there a numerous players out there in the 1000s, 2000s, and 3000s who would hand just about anybody who is ranked in the top 10 their arse in a dogfight.

The nubes are not the problem. Is the vets that were vulching the bejeasus out of me last night in p40s, lol. Then, it was the vets again that flew above everyone else in a furball picking me off once I got into it with a few of the low cons. The funny part is, it was some of the people that come in here and talk about what a blast furbals are, lol.

OVERALL NUMBERS MEAN NOTHING? WHAT THE HELL YOU TALKING ABOUT?
a few days ago i flew for 2HOURS and only saw like 3 cons. why? because a country with 10 players on it, has to split these 10 players between "front lines" as well as some of them being afk etc.
people keep saying the fights have improved, and its stopping milkrunners, but im seeing the oposite. Right now theres very few fights and its mostly milkrunning going on because there is NO ONE AROUND to opose it.

This is garbage, many folks including me went rook to help balance the numbers out. further alot of squads like the AK's (who I flew with for around 2 yrs) rotated regularly.
