it seems that the root of the problem are its gangs er squads
getting rid of them or lower the membership to say under < 12 would solve alot of problems.. thoughts?

Wait, wait, Let me see if I understand this. First we are limited to certain arenas. Have to deal with ENY that needs massive adjustment. :furious Have the cost of most Perk Rides go through the roof. ENY of aircraft that make no sense what so every and when ENY is kicked being seriously limited in what we can fly. (NO BS about switching sides. THat answer has become stale and solves nothing in the long run.:furious .) Faced with not knowing if we can fly with our friends/squadmates becuase of Arena Sizes and now you want to do this. YOu cant be serious. This has got to be the most unrealistic answer I have ever heard. People would fill up the 12 limit and create another squadron and think that is the answer :huh People come with real answer and not BS solutions that solve if anything short term situations.
-
Decided to keep the 80th Headhunters to 12 for that very reason. I think if things get too big too fast, it can only create problems. I know that folks want to share the fun, but I've seen it happen too many times when a squad gets too large.
And when you try and present 3 different squads as 1 with 90+ people, who then expect to all fly on the same side, it's unworkable.
-
It's all the MAW's fault

Having even sides solves all of those issues, instantly. WTF are you talking about?
-
I think it is important for people to make maximum use of smilies.
-
Even sides would solve issues but enough of the switching sides. ALot as been ask of us from HT and we are all doing our best to adjust to the current format. But asking even more such as limiting squads is no real answer. Here is one big issue for example. SOmething happens to the squad CO and XO and you are unable to remove those who left the game or add anyone in. YOU create a new squad the CO and XO come back get things fixed but wait the squad you made to fix the intial issue is to big so you have 2 squads flying as one. Solves none of the problems and adresses no real issuse or topics. The current setup allos you to get around the current limit and people will find a way around it.
-
So what if they limit squads. All people would have to do is agree to fly together and they are still a squad, all be it not in name.

Large squads themselves are not the problem/solution. The issue comes up in how they address and interact w/ the community @ large that is on the same arena. The issue is the sudden inclusion of a cohesive group of 30 into an arena w/ a popultation of 90 at the time. It throws side balance and ENY off if no one switches or logs on to redress the inbalance. I used to see it in the old CT all the time a squad would log on and suddenly the other side was getting ganged and horded and would log off in frustration. One side cannot enjoy the game w/out the other. I think even the proponents of steam rolling undefended fields over and over would get bored w/out some opposition. If they didn't they could go do it all day long in H2H land for free. The arena is @ it's best when all 3 sides can function and fight on more or less even terms.
Physically limiting the size of 1 squad won't solve the problem if the group wants to expand. They just form another squad and work together. The problem lies as I see it in the desire to mass and overwhelm with odds that virtually garantee success cannot be limited by the game code. The only solution I see is for people to agree that all the issues of ENY, hording, and ganging can be solved with in the community. The solution is there if we choose to use it.

Either way, it seems that a much more powerful side-balancing mechanism is inevitable. It will mean one way or another, people will be limited, or stopped, from joining a certain country that begins to accumulate dangerously high numbers advantage over the others - even if it means certain members of the squad will not be able to fly together.
Being in a good and large squad is certainly no sin. However, an elephant roaming around in your backyard is a problem despite the fact noone can blame the elephant for being such a lumbering behemoth that craps a lot of shi* all over you wife's rosebed. Big squads do often create imbalance, and its effect is especially noticeable when arena numbers are smaller.
I'm not sure what HTC is brainstorming right now, but I do imagine they realize the scope of the current situation and will bring out a solution - perhaps, a drastic one.
The question is, when that moment comes, how ready are AH gamers and squads, to accept that as a given fact?

I'll venture a guess that they'll be even more reluctant to accept the changes, given how reluctant many are to admit that there was a problem before.
There is no elephant in the backyard. Do not look at, nor discuss, the elephant that is not trampling the hydrangea.

The problem isnt the squads, its the people in them. If you go look at the "old guard" squads back in AW they balanced the arena. Almost all of the best squads looked of the other big gun squads. The Dammed weren't looking to roll the map...they were looking to roll the musketeers. If you didnt have enough real adversaries you split your squad and beat the snot out of each other. Compare that to many of the current sheep...er squads and thats the heart of your problem.

so people arnt allowed to fly with friends now?

Bat we got 3 wings for our squad if we limited it to 12 we would just have 8 wings.:D :p

I blame hub for all of AHs problems. Check out furballs avatar for a pic of hub. It keeps HT up at night thus making him make poor dicissions

i like squads and i think that AH would lose something special without them.
but...perhaps an occasional refresh is in order.
what would happen if the 3 countries were renamed?
lets say bish/rook/nit was changed to red/blue/green or some other arbitrary collection.
what would happen?
would this stimulate interchange between once opposing forces, allowing for new unions? i think so.
for your consideration.

Eagler this is perhapps the most un thought threw post ive ever read....... Heres the deal Aces high already cut the number DOWN to 32 per squad u want them to do it again lol ya right. The 613th Consisnt of 3 wings about 40 members strong most we ussuly pull on squad night is about 25. but thats not the point u make squad max 12 ??? here is what happens 613th becomes probly about 6 wings still all fly toghter still work togther so basicly u havent done anything by making squads smaller only difrence would be the red squad text :). I think that about sums up this whole thred

The "interaction" is what some people seem to be adverse to...
Even in the old MA. when you tried to bring 30-40 people together in an HTC approved format using the "Mission Planner", you might get 5-10 outta 210 online on in a mission.
Now when a squad comes in, without a mission and ups and attacks an area with 30-40 folks - why whine? They are showing more cohesion and concentration of force, than most of the players one one side. How should that upset a balance? Why should a 30-60 person squad get penalized for working together - when that's the point of missions? To organize and concentrate forces.
I've been flying all sides lately, and it's the same all around. There's apathy on flying in missions. Well, so what if a large squad finds folks who like to run missions and incorporates those people into a squad. And if they fly together and attack as a what's percieved to be a "horde" so be it...
Maybe the other country should up a "mission" using the mission editor to oppose that attacking squad, instead of boohooing about how they organized and pretty much overran you.

You think large squads are the problem? Well, then, create your own large squad, and everywhere one of the "problems" goes, follow. That is, defeat a large organization through better organization.
Or else you can **** and moan until someone gives in to your whining.

If I switch, I switch as part of the squad.
Rooks will remember us coming over to them when they were in the bucket.
Point being, various carrots have been put out there to encourage people to switch, none have worked.
Neither will this debacle, all it has done is tee'd off a very large part of the community.
No probs with different arenas (I don't think ANYONE has), problem is the numbers caps which has made a bad situation a million times worse.

when we founded ZG-1 in the MA it was originally 8 guys from the CT in JG54. the cap was set at 12 players. ZG-1 was recently acquired by JG54 for an undiclosed cash amount and a considerably large portion of shares in the parent company. JG54 stock trades on the HTC stock exchange under the symbol "dwb".
I think the 32 member number is fine not that it matters. there are squads that vocally boast of their 90 member status. from my experience regarding their playing ability they need every single one them too.
let's face it prey species usually run in troops, flocks, schools or herds. there is no changing nature.

Excellent point.
It prompts me to ask: What in the world prevents squads from splitting up and fighting each other? You still enjoy flying with your squad members. You get to enjoy shooting them down, too. Your squad becomes an asset to the community, rather than a new problem.

Ohh I don't know, BOP's squad night went off with out much of a problem and from the looks of things we balanced the EWA out some at the same time.
When I logged on we had about 34 members on for squad night, just over the normal squad limit our size did go up as the night progressed but we didn't get hit with any ENY restrictions so the arena must have still been balanced.
The only real crys we heard after we took the 4th base was a few guys screaming about how the new arena setup was some how was about stoping the horde... But I saw nothing wrong we just had 35 to 40 guys that could work togeather on a single objective and get the job done.
I'm sorry if some of you guys hate the fact that others know how to work togeather. It's a terrible thing I know.
-
never seen any of your squad... only the toolsheds were complaining...
No one cares if your squad is "working together" to take undefended bases so long as there are places for the rest of us to fight.
the good thing is that there aren't mega squads in every country in every arena now.... there is choice.
you handholders and toolshed killers could be playing off line for all it affect us now. the worst you can do is drive up the eny.
there isn't the whorde on one chesspioece in that corner... the other in the other and the last in it's own... all fighting ai and never to meet.
While you are fighting ai... the rest of us are fighting humans.

Lazs you are sooooooo....... I can't think of a good word for you lol..
The bases were defended thank you and there was a great fight for the bases we took.... EWA was great for this also because it took a good combination of air and land power to take some of them.. I haven't had such a good tank battle in a looooooong time.. JB's
Oh and Lazs could you stop repeating yourself in every thread??? One would think that you had nothing else to say.....

Speaking for the entire community again, oh Great Opinionated One?
-
flayed... if 34 guys all working together like little worker ants is needed to take a base then you really don't know what gameplay is.
If you think 34 guys all working together is conducive to good fites then you don't have any idea of what a good fite is. I have seen squads that when their of 6 of em on... they are invincible.... what you do is make up for talent with numbers.
I think it funny that you both deny and defend your mob whorde idea of gameplay in every post...
perhaps it is you guys who are repeating yourselves? perhaps having to deny what you do and at the same time defend it is simply....
a losing argument?
lazs

-
...and after years of this same "argument", we are STILL here. We aren't going anywhere. The only thing HTC can do against our "mob" is radically change the format further to the point it's like curing the disease by killing the patient. But that would be a pretty fat dent in his pocket-book now, wouldn't it?
-
So you are not just anti horde but anti squad also??? I think the entire reason for forming a squad is to group people of like minds togeather to acomplish what ever the objective is at the time....... To you it may seem like a waste of time but for others it is fun.
What i'm geting from you is that if it were up to you we would all run around alone like chickens with our heads loped off and mindlessly furball forever......
Sounds boring... I am now going to repeat myself..... Some of us like to play all aspects of the game. We furball, we GV, we bomb, we take bases and we have squad night to have fun with all the rest of the guys in the squad if you want to call that hording so be it. We will have fun the way we want and you can go hide from us and have fun the way you want.....
Oh by the way you arn't my sister pretending to be somebody else on this forum are you..... Because arguing with you is almost exactally like arguing with her.. Quite irritating actually.....
This is becoming just another repeat thread just like alllll the others on this topic so I am now done posting in here and will now let it die.... Typing is actually more boring than playing so off to AH land I go.

In the last few months as I played AH for the first time in almost two years, I became aware of the BoP and some other "Air Forces" where several squads had banded together under a kind of larger umbrella organization.
Thinking back on it I thoght it was kind of clever but there were a few times where it was bothersome for me to the extent that this large hoard of players was simply overwhelming that part of the arena where they were fighting and I didnt even attempt to play the game around them.
I found fights elswhere and had no reason to complain, but I can fully understand why these emerging Air Forces were a concern to HTC (if indeed they even were).
In any event it will definately be harder for these Air Forces to operate efficiently in the more constrained arenas. If limiting the effectiveness of these Air Forces was the intent of this latest change, or a desireable after effect, then HTC did a good job at it. Still, it seems that overall the gameplay has improved, and by limiting some components of gameplay for a small but well organised group of players, they actually opened up more opportunities for a larger more diverse but less organised group of players.
Good call.

well here it goes, first the furballers whine and get there way with this new set up, now comes the whines about large squads, first off, the reason people join large squads, 1) the friendships, people join and stay with squads to hang with there friends. 2) working together as a close nit unit, by the numbers of large squads i would say the majority of people would enjoy and want to work together in that way. now with this current setup, its very easy for 1 large squads to create game inbalance, well in the old MA settings that didn't happen, now with HT's numbers dropping, people not being able to log on or just plane out quiting, this is gonna happen. there is no solution as i see it. this whole thing is not looking good for the future of AH. and yes i am apart of a very large squad. the reason is the frienships, if HT every did the unthinkable of side assigments or busting up the large squads. then what????
end results alot of ticked off customers who pay the bills, HT is way to smart for any of that, or i belive so any way.
-
I think HTC should just pull the plug on it all.
-
NO!!! I say reduce the total number of squads, and increase the number! We would see more base captures, because of the horde. As much as it is annoying, we didnt win world war two with two lancasters and a goon. We did it with mass bombing, and huge fights. I for one am trying to make a squad of at least 32 people, to simulate an early war B-17 Bombardment Group. Every time we are on, we make a significant effort to take as many bases as possible. So yeah, and we dont do it with lancs either ;)
-
It's my $15 bucks...If I want to fly with 30 of my close AH friend's then I will...And no, I dont give a crap if I inbalance ENY...The old Main Arena, you bring 30 people in, maybe the eny would jump to 10....This new arena, it now bring it up to 28+....not my problem

Ok i got a CRAZY thought we could just...........lets HTC and the Aces High staff run things while we have fun flying with freinds and enjoying are selfs and stop worring about the planes, hoards, eny, maps, numbers, la7, buffs...ext. Now i dont mean to be mean or anything like that lets jsut play the game and have fun. Flying with r buds.

Being from one of the larger squads in A H, in no way a detrament to the game. On most nights we being the 31st have 10 to 15 members on, missions I have set up or been involved in consist of larger numbers of country mates not only one's squad mates. As far as hoards are concerned, the use of large groups to capture an enemy base is just sound tactics. I have been on both sides of the issue, when I have been on the recieving side of a hoard I will look for a way to break the group up to save the base.
I a player doesn't like what is happening , simply move to a different field.
-
It occures to me that some large squads just like flying together, and while they may have as many as 25-30 members they usually dont get more than 15-20 on at any 1 given time, including squad nights.
Tonite I witnessed a very large squad enter the EW, survey the map & situations, and apply themselves in the way that would piss off as many people as possible. I honestly believe that was their intent. They have gotten alot of attention lately, and they want to push the issue as far as they can
It would have been just as easy to survey the map & apply that large number of people in a matter that would be constructive to the game, but that choice was not made.
It is clear some people thrive on conflict, and ruining things for others. I have already gotten over being pissed off, but I have now lost respect for a squad I once respected.

Hoardes are never a garuntee. Mako will remember the day at A8 when it was just the two of use getting vulched for twenty minutes, but when he and I finally got in the air (I in a P-40E) we got the goons before they got the town, we got a 110 or two, we distracted them, and after twenty straight minutes of cap the two of us (Mostly Mako, but my being such a great target bought him time to be brilliant) broke the cap, got friendlies in there, and still had it 5 hours later. And this was a horde of like... 30 people, not just 10.

The real problem is squads? That's the backbone of this game. If another side is getting steam-rolled, well, form a squad and take on the fight. This is simply a sob story. Squads were a part of the war and should be a part of the game. And just like in WWII some squads are more effective in combat than others. It's nature's design.
The real problem, and I mean the really real problem, is that the change in total airfields by all three countries equalled ONE all day I was on. No bases are getting taken. Why? The map is too small. There's only one place to fight and there's your big furball and that base is never getting taken. How do you bring a goon into a 3 country furball? If anyone has any ideas let me know because "on fire" isn't working.
All you manage to do when you take the fight somewhere else with a force is move the furball from one base to another.
Bring back the big maps.

WOW, if this is what the mentality of HT is coming to, I'm glad I have no sadness about leaving AH. MAny of the players here have been athletes and played team sports, that's what squads are all about, you can't get teamwork without them and that was the main attraction for me, flying with squadies on assigned nights and playing out missions. If you want to be solo sportsman, take up golf.
THanks ALL for fun 6 years >S<

Yes squads are the meat and potatoes of the game but I have to disagree with your second point in that with no squads, it's not just another flight game but just another first shooting player game. Think of it as Unreal Tournament with airplanes to shoot with instead of guns.. Those that want to remove teamwork from the game are just wishing for a dueling only game. Yeah HT, make it just a dueling game and see how long it stays in business.
All the Best...

Just who are you to determine what gameplay is anyway? You have never flow with us and don't know how we operate, why don't you just climb off your soapbox (you are beginning to sound like Hugo Chavez), and just fly with us for a few days and see just how we are ruining the game. 34 guys online just to take a base huh? It's much more involved in a squad action as some are diverted to other places, some are diverted to cap, some are diverted to porking troops far up the chain. You apparently have no idea of tactics. You just can't roll land and leave it undefended. You don't know about that part of the game do ya? that 32 or 34 players get split up quite a bit during a mission and you only see one number to do one thing. Man go to the library and read about tactics or just come and fly with us for a while and see how the other side does that stuff. Ah is not just abut picking a fighter and flying to another fighter and having a duel. What part of that don't you get?
Inquiring minds wanna know...

Both FALC and Lazs have agreeded to stop the blood-letting ... why don't you do the same?

Perhaps because I had not seen that or anything to indicate it before I posted my response. I was just responding to what I have seen today, I worked a 16 hour shift yesterday and had just gotten off work when I posted my message today. It was not posted with any malice or in furthering the anomosity. Honestly, I have flown against some BK's and have enjoyed the fight and I know that we sometimes lump you all together as rotten SOB's, I do have respect for a bunch and the same thing is being done with us (BOPS), we all have our good apples and the bad ones. We just throw away our bad ones and you guys don't.
All the Best...

Squads aren't the problem, good example from last night -
Us and the BOPS went over the EW arena -
15 Rooks, 4 Knits, 4 Bish.
We arrived and boosted Bish to 18.
So we left the Knits alone (guessing they had enough problems) and hit Rooks exclusively.
Took A3/A4/V64/A5.
Oh and some of the Rooks who were on prior to our arrival were from the "fair and balanced" brigade.
No names you know who you are, if you have the guts to own up.

Lol they know who they are.
Obviously their "fair and balanced" is -
If I'm on the low side you must change to my side.
If I'm on the high side...tough.
When we logged we left it with -
Rooks 11, Bish 2, Knits 2.

*sigh*
This REALLY hurts to say this, but I do agree with the BoPs to a degree... since the change, I have flown with my squad of 12 guys (usually 3-4 are on max) less than ever. Last night for example; one squadmate is in the EW, one is in the MW, and 2 others are in each LW arena.
The change really hasn't fixed the hording; last night 2 squads totaling 25 guys killed FHs and moved like a steer stampede, never flying alone and never staying around when the fight even gradually turned against them.
(here is where the landgrabbers won't like me)
However, in the old days of one big MA, or today, there isn't a need to move about in a horde numbering 10 or so. Simply put, scattered fighters on seperate channels aren't going to be able to put up a defense. Or worse yet, milk-running tons of undefended bases is incredibly laughable.
What I like best about the change is the fact the smaller arenas create better attitudes overall since you can't hide in the numbers, so to speak. I've had some of the best fights I've ever had in the past 2 weeks than I've had overall in the past few months.
(and here I'll make more enemies)
I also feel it is the fault of the newer players for not wanting to learn ACM but still want to feel as though they contributed something to a success of some kind (aka hitting town buildings, strats, etc). I'm not sure whether or not it is because our Trainers haven't answered the call or because these new players are unwilling to put the time in to learn. Maybe the learning curve is too steep, maybe some of the younger players want instant gratification, but its obvious they aren't gaining any furballing skills and because of it have no furballing interest.
So, imho the arena change is a good idea but it won't change the way the individual plays unless he has an example to follow or strife to become.

The reason I play AH is for the squad. I wouldnt be here if my friends werent.
