Quite a day for the Oregon teams :D

We won't talk about certain teams and homecoming games. :(
ok, we will talk about it. One word is all I need.
Tackling.
You don't do it, and you're gonna lose. We sure as hell didn't tackle Saturday afternoon, and we lost homecoming.
But homecoming is always fun! I get to see lots of my old friends from band, plus it's great seeing people who marched back in the 40's and 50's show up and go on the field at halftime. :)
-
Yeah, I watched the Oregon game, and I really held my breath on that last field goal attempt by UCLA. I just hope Oregon doesn't lose the toilet bowl next week (though I kind of expect it).
-
Oregon vs Oregon State is December 1st.

As a die hard UCLA fan, all I can say is; "Why did the most flamboyant offensive coach in the Pac 10 decide to run the ball every down on that last series?" SHeeeeeeeesh! I hope the Oregon Team does us all proud in the Fiesta Bowl <winces as he says that>.
-
I'm still laughing over that loss to Stanford (Stanford? Come on!)
Anyway, I'm pissed, some damn beavers beat up my dawgs!
-
Down in Texas we do things right :)
Last week Texas Tech beat Texas A&M :) well after the game the Tech fans picked up the A&M field goal and threw it into the A&M stands!! THEN! the A&M fans started fighting each other!!!! LOL
-
Hey! Bama won a game!
We battled Miss state for last place in the SEC.
:)
-
damn, The Civil War is Dec 1st? man, we got our makeup game with Georgia Tech that day. :( Was hoping to see the Civil War.
In the meantime we got Florida State at Florida this weekend. If our defense plays like they did this past weekend, it's gonna be FSU 27 Florida 52, if not worse. Oh well, wouldn't be the first time the Gators dropped 52 on us. *shivers* ugh, that was my last game in band. Oh well, least it was in New Orleans! :D

Nifty,
Ever since a trip to Biloxi Mississippi, I have hated the Seminoles with a passion unmached in shear loathing potential (well.. except for that Brit vs Frog thing). There were some 5 or 6 ardent FSU fans in the dorm that refused to acknowledge that FSU losing two games means they most likely won't win a national championship.
Man... they were a riot.
Anyways... I did a little "happy dance" when FSU lost Saturday. It would have been a fricking huge bellybutton happy dance if Miami woulda lost too. :D
Damn I hate any team from Florida ;)

all I gotta say is........... THE BCS IS BS!!!!
My longhorns beat a team 59 to 0, and moved down in the poles. Stayed the same in the coach's pole, and the AP pole.... but not the BCS. Nebraska didn't even beat them that bad, and they are #1. The guys at BCS need to check their math.
-
Yep its pure BS.
BTW.. who was it that beat Texas in the Bowl game last year?
:p
AKDejaVu
-
Deja, why didn't you just kill them and do the rest of us FSU fans a favor? :D I can't stand moronic fans. They're about as bad as fairweather fans, IMO. Kill 'em all!
 that's a little violent on my part. shame on me.
-
Hmmm, guess none of you boyz are from Maryland :) Seems like the Terps, the perennial losers in the ACC have been the surprise of major college football. The BCS folks are gonna have one helluva time deciding who gets what bids and where.

Good Luck Saturday Nifty
Gooooo Gators!

Eagler, hehe, it's easier to handle when you know you've got a 95% chance of losing.
I just hope we don't lose to you like we lost to Miami. Three plays were the scoring difference in that game. Blocked punt for a TD, fumble recovery for a TD (that was actually an incomplete pass on replay from every angle they had), and we break up a FG attempt but they run it in for the TD. Plus the other 5 turnovers we had.
I just want our boys to hold onto the ball and make smart plays. If we do that, and you beat us, I'm happy. If we lose because we can't cover Gaffney, Caldwell and the rest, I'm happy. If we lose cuz we give you the ball 6 times, or we don't tackle (a la the NC State game) then I'm gonna be upset. :(
-
Ol Miss didn't lose this week! Wait till next week! GO REBELS!
-
Looks like my school is gonna win their conference title the first year they are in the conference. Maybe its not the big 12 or the sec but I still think being wac champion is pretty good achievement for a school in its first year in. The only 3 games we lost were against Auburn (which beat then #1 Florida), Fresno St.(which was listed as a national title contender, until their meltdown against Boise State who we beat), and Oklahoma State which are all good teams. All 3 losses were by less than 10 points. Im just glad we arent an independant anymore. Those years of going 9-2 and not getting a bowl bid out of it reeked! If we can just upset K state next we should have no problem finishing off Tulsa after that to go 8-3 on the season. Our freshman Q-back, Luke McCown can get the job done if anybody can, he looks set to fill the shoes of previous La Tech greats such as Terry Bradshaw, Jason Martin, and Tim Rattay.

I watched the FSU/Florida game. What has happened to FSU? Their defense used to look like men amongst boys. Lately they just look like boys.

one of the managers here took FL State and 20.
The bet was with one of his buddies, loser shaves his head.
Looks like Captain Jean-Luc Picard down the hall :)

Wow... what a day!

Go Gators!!!
well, maybe next year .... :(
other reason to exterminate those terrorist bastards, if the FL/Tenn game was played when it was suppose to, UF would have had Graham #5 in the backfield ...urgh

Deja, youth happened to FSU. Not one corner for FSU had starting experience coming into this [edit]season[/edit]. Only Chris Hope (free safety) was a returning starter in defensive backs. We don't have a dominant defensive end like we had for much of the 90's. FSU for the last several years was able to apply pressure on the QB with just the front 4. Now we're like everyone else and have to blitz to get constant pressure, yet we still don't do that very often. On the whole, it's a young defense, only 3 seniors, one of which never played much until this year. Same can be said for the offense this year. Injuries, graduations, and even a death in February took away FSU's experience. This is just the first time in a long time that FSU has to rebuild instead of "reload". Honestly, we played Florida better than I thought we would have (defensively that is, Rix got kinda jumpy again, but he's just a freshman.)
Eagler, Earnest doesn't play defense, and that was what killed you. Over 250 yds rushing for Travis Stephens, the biggest was the run in the 4th quarter immediately after Chandler nailed that long 51 yarder. Turnabout is fair play on the 2 point conversion though. You beat Tennessee last year on a questionable call by the officials on Gaffney's score late in the game. This year Gaffney did get tugged on, but the officials missed it. Kinda like how Michigan fans were complaining about officiating (clock management in this case) against Mich St this year, when bad officiating had them beating Illinois 2 years in a row. ;) You get some good calls and you get some bad calls.
Harrington almost pulled a Clint Stoener. Defense bailed him out with the interception though. :) Still isn't enough to get into the Rose Bowl though, BCS should be out soon, and I bet Oregon will be 4th behind Tenn and Nebraska.

doh! Colorado is now 4th in the standings! Forgot to figure in their quality win component. plus they've got the 2nd strength of schedule.

Yea, and UT wouldn't have had John Henderson and Donte Stallworth. But that's the breaks.
Look on the bright side -- Grossman will be able to attend that Heisman bash next weekend after all :)
See you next year.

If you beat LSU, you have my full support in the Rose Bowl, even tho you beat us 3 years ago in the Fiesta. ;) I was getting prepared to pull for Florida come January, but as it is, now I don't have to! "Rocky Top will always be home sweet home to me! Good ol' Rocky Top! Rocky Top Tennessee!" Heh, in the early 90's FSU's band would play that if Tennessee had beaten Florida earlier in the year at the FSU-Gator game. ;) Don't worry Eagler, we like you guys more than we like Miami!
Oh, and speaking of breaks, musta been nice seeing Outzen instead of Weinke at QB for FSU in 1998! :D
-
Quack!
-
hehe, the best part were replays while Joey played the piano! ;)
Was a good game, and I enjoyed watching the Ducks kick Buff butt! :) Of course I was in a good mood because we actually won our bowl game as well. :)
-
Sorry Maryland :)
and they won their conference?? Pop Warner ??
me thinks Grossman got the shaft too, with stats like his the H trophy should have been his. Politics ...
-
yup, SEC beat the ACC in a bowl game. They always do that, right? Oops, Auburn lost to North Carolina. Hmm, didn't Auburn beat someone pretty good earlier in the year? :p
Pop Warner conference went 4-2 in bowl games this year, which is roughly the same percentage that the big bad SEC won (67% as opposed to 63% for 5-3), sent the same percentage of teams to bowls from the conference (67% each) and went 1-1 against the SEC in bowl games.
Oh, and the ACC has as many national champs in football since 1990 as does the SEC. :) (Ga Tech 90, FSU 93, 99; Bama 92, Florida 96, Tenn 98) To give credit though, Florida and Tennessee beat FSU to win their titles, as well as the SEC having a long standing tradition of having great football.
Bashing the opponent after winning. :D I'd expect nothing less from a Gator fan!

It was more like a slaughter than a win :)
As much as it hurts my stomach to say it:
GO CANES !! :)
-
yeah, but ya gotta admit, the little ACC showed well in bowl games this year before Maryland forgot you have to cover more than just Jabar and Reche. :)
Eagler, I just can't do it. I can't pull for Miami tonight. I've only been able to actually pull for Miami once before, and that was to beat UCLA in 98 so FSU could get to the Fiesta Bowl. Besides, Oregon shoulda been playing Miami, and I want the Ducks to have a share of the title. GO HUSKERS!
-
There is no joy in mudville tonight.
Oh well... at least I don't have to listen to endless "No way Nebraska should be #1" discussions for the next year. A clear #2 in all polls <edit>for Oregon</edit> isn't THAT bad.

It was clearly evident to me that the wrong team was playing Miami tonight in the Rose Bowl. Although I don't think any team in college football would have been able to stop Miami tonight. But that is just something I will have to look at when I replay the 2001 season on PS2 later next week in NCAA 2002.
This year was an outstanding year for college football. I don't think the BCS works but until we get a real playoff in 20 years or so its the best we have.
-
Nebraska's QB should be a half back.
This guy won the HT???
Sorry wasn't impressed. A QB should "throw" the ball or hand it off to one of his "running" backs. Maybe they gave it to him as he carried the team all year? I'm sure I missed something as I didn't follow Neb this year but me thinks Grossman was robbed.
Ah, back to the NFL...
Go Bucs!
-
The Heisman Trophy is a popularity contest and RARELY goes to the best or most valuable player in college football. You saw the best player last night. He plays left tackle for Miami. Bryant McKinnie is phenomenal, perhaps the best college tackle to play the game. But since he's an offensive lineman, he'd never be in contention for the Heisman. Ed Reed for Miami should have gotten some consideration as well. The HT is nothing but a popularity contest between the offensive skill position players. Only time a defender won it, was because he ran back punts and played some receiver as well (Charles Woodson, 97).
Besides, Grossman lost for the same reason, albeit inversed, that Weinke almost lost last year. Age. "I'm not voting for a sophomore for the Heisman!" sheesh, if that doesn't show that the award is biased, political, and downright pointless, nothing does.
Hehe, I just keep the PS2 on varsity level and run off perfect seasons. ;) Once I get a new memory card, I'll do a dynasty in a harder mode. I just can't switch now and ruin the perfect record. :p
-
Wow. Was that some kind of butt-whoopin' Miami put on the Corn last night. Although I like Miami and hate the Corn, I kinda wanted an upset so the BCS would be more screwed up :)
However, even though last night wasn't the most exciting game, it did reafirm something in my mind.
I could listen to Keith Jackson call a chess tournament. He is as smooth as glass.
-
Damn those Miami boys made tulips of themselfes. Wait never mind that, they always make tulips of themselves.
-
I would not have college football any other way if I could not get to hear Keith Jackson at least once a year.
-
Agreed, KJ is the best, I can remember listening to him as a kid in the late 60's early 70's...
-
Ditto Keith Jackson. He and Vin Sculley are in a class by themselves. The coolest thing about both is that they not only describe the action so well, but they know when to shut up and let you absorb the atmosphere.
