How I feel depends on which sculpture.
Modern day artists are just wastes of semen and zygotes who only make things to shock and make a point.
While real art is made to be beautiful and uplifting.

Ha ha, you tried to sound like an 1ntellelctuel!! But you don't know that zygotes are made from sperm and that the modern period ended decades ago!

Got to the word "Texas," figured I didn't have to read anymore :D
This is a joke, btw.
-
Sounds like some parents have overreacted.
Texas is a big place btw, lotsa people too.

Useless thread without pictures.

Only art I care about are the women in nudie mags

wow man if i was this teacher id show the judge and jurry the signed papers that allowed the trip to be permissable. i think its BS that the school would do this to her after 28 years of teaching. thoughs parents are a bunch of tards too. seriusly its art fo christ sakes. IMHO its the prenciples fault and he should be punnished.

Art is not an excuse to be crude or obscene, and to do whatever you want.
Those that say it is deserve to be beaten with an aluminum bat.
-
If you take the piss out of anything done creatively, you don't deserve to live.
-
Here's the kicker that the story doesn't tell you. It was 1 child that wandered away from the group and stumbled on the statue. The sculpture was not on the tour. It wasn't an obscene piece of art the teacher forced the class to look at. So basicly she got fired because the parents of the kid that did'nt behave did'nt teach their child to do what the teacher told them to do.
-
go pics of teh statue?
oh yeah
gigidy
-
people are so retarded sometimes.....
-
LePaul got a job as an art gallery manager? :lol

You superimposed a picture of Texas over France and immediately the French government sought terms of surrender. Surprisingly, they all will claim they were part of the "underground" when the scare is over.

Well having read the article, I'm shocked, flabbergasted and amazed — I keep trying to get my head around the concept but I can't. I keep on coming back to the thing that just freaks me out: They have art museums in Texas?!? Who for? Tourists?
;)

They probably saw something shocking like the Michelangelo statue, students giggled, parents heard about it and it's lynchmob time!
'My kid can shoot guns and watch people getting murdered on tv all day but GAWD DARN IT he's not gonna see a single nipple in his life!'
Sometimes you people are just funny.

Yep.. but it's the same everywhere you go.
In France, there's none of the lewd 'vulgarity' you can find in the US, and yet there's all that nudity in publicity, pharmaceutical in particular. You'd never find those ads in america.
I might go take some pics of em.
-
moot, i can help with that :)
Those are advertising you'll see everywhere. how could one not apreciate those... i dunno.

Hit nail on head.

moot the thing is this. those ads of which you speak just would not work well here. while there is nothing lewd or vulgar about the ad that saw posted many here would be outraged and letter writing campaigns to the magazine editor and ad sponsor would ensue. thanks for posting that saw, those are some fine looking undergarments, now where did you get those 20 year old frau storch photos from?
-
Storch, there are some 60+ lessons. just look for "Aubade" in google image.
This one is pretty mild, you don't want to see what they do to magnum ice... you lot would be running around with your arms flailing and your hair on fire :D

Simpsons.

For some reason you didn't need to specify that it was in Texas. I had already guessed that.
Yey censorship!

And that's my point, aesthetics of that sort aren't appreciated, because of their 'flavor' to/in that particular population.

Anyone that doesn't "censor" what their 10 year old sees or has access to is an idiot.
-
So you would think that showing this to a 10 year old is going to de-stabilise him?

it's a well known fact that northern italian women can be quite charming and disarming. read what machiavelli has to say about the subject.
-
Was that the "art" shown or are you building a strawman Saintaw?
I was thinking that maybe this sort of "art" should be censored for young children:

I really didn't see any evidence that a nude person was seen there at the museum. All I read was that there were statues without clothing on..........
Frankly this seems to be a bit of a hyped up situation. I can't see this kind of situation leading to a revocation of tenure, even in a bible belt area.
I have to agree with Ripley on this one. The real obscenity is the killing of people shown on TV and other venues as entertainment rather than the depiction of the human body outside of a pornographic depiction.

I agree, sounds like an overreaction on the part of the parents and the school. However, not many facts were provided. If she took them to the "Hall of S&M" then perhaps she deserves to be fired.

OMG let's not let children see naked statues! Their tiny brains might not take it!
-
I doubt very much a teacher would take young children to go see the sort of thing you posted. The article mentions the word "nudity" not porn or gross.
-
It looks like it was something similar to Michaelangelo's nude.. The exhibit was a classical collection, so none of that modern or postmodern trashy BS. The culprit was most likely something outrageous like a bouguereau (http://images.google.com/images?num=100&q=bouguereau).
You know what.. if nude marble is made to be such a threat to little kids... you'll sow what you reap :)

The article does little to illuminate the issue. It could be that is intentional. There may have been obscenity involved and the writer of the article may have had an agenda which prevented objective reporting. I can only speculate without facts.
-
From what I can find the school board is claiming that the field trip has nothing to do with not renewing this teacher's contract. It is possible that the parent's objection has nothing to do with her termination and she is simply using it to garner public support.
Perhpas more will be revealed as time passes.
-
Theres a nipple broken off that statue
-
ya it was the germans, they hate nipples. I think the british took the arms, we all know how much they fear arms.

one of my art history proffessors once said that one of the first things that a new pope does, is decide of the fig leaves should remain over the privates of males in the vatican.
according to her, they have little clips in the back.
strange but true? don't know, but she was an authority on the subject.

I think it's more about whiney teachers in Texas. Funny that I had to do a lot of digging to find that the school board refutes her claim that this is why she was not renewed. My speculation that there is a hidden agenda in the reporting is becoming more validated.
-
every Texan I've talked to about it is outraged by her being fired.
-
Every Texan I know would not support a teacher being fired because some fifth grader saw a nude statue at the Dallas arts Museum. That's why I think there is more to this. As the school board has stated, she was not fired for this reason. I think the teacher is using the incident to keep her job and the original reporter is using it for their own agenda. But hey, everyone knows that Texans are all a bunch of prudes so why spoil the lynching?

So what were their reasons?
It was mentioned earlier that she was a teacher there for many many years. I would like to know why they let her go, if not for this reason.

Why do you think you have a right to know their reasons? The teacher is entitled to some privacy you know.
