Spokesman Qin Gang said that the organs were not taken forcibly, but only with the express permission of the convict.
But whether prisoners really are free to make up their own minds on organ donation just before they are executed is not at all clear, our correspondent says.
Reminds me of some sci-fi horror show....

The picture showed hangings, I can't imagine they hang 1,000+ prisoners a year though. As far as I know gas chamber, lethal injection, and the electric chair leave little if any organs to be donated. The only way to save organs is by firing squad, hanging, or nitrogen asphyxiation.
Sounds creepy at any rate.

This isn't related to that noodle transplant thread from a week or so ago, is it?
