Title: My "other" job
Post by: Ripsnort on September 27, 2006, 08:37:17 PM
Well...sort of...its a hobby but it pays well.  I'm either here at the booth answering questions and selling, or on the field shooting.

This is our photography booth. We just received word that we'll be shooting the President's Cup Soccer Tournament on 2 week-ends in Nov and Dec. We're very excited, this is turning into more than just a paying-hobby!

We've also been asked to shoot the College football Try-outs in Puyallup at Big League Edge complex where college football scouts come and look at the local talent, this Spring 2007. Very exciting times!

My blonde business partner is on the right. She's a great gal with an artistic touch.

Very nice Rip!

If you are not too proud, send me a few pics and I can edit them for you. You know in the same spirit that you edit other's pics here, except I ask first :)

Absolutely! I'll send you abotu 200 every monday morning if you don't mind. I need an editor as I don't have time really.  My goal is to shoot a shot without needing editting software, but that doesn't always happen.

Shoot me your email. Mine is soupnazi60@yahoo.com.  I'll put you to work. I hope you've got room for about 400 meg of pictures every monday morning. :)

Seriously Rip, if you post some more of your pics ( the good one's), I might just edit them for you, free of charge.

That's another thing I love about this community....... caring people who just want to lend a helping hand.

I'm sorry you feel that way. Its a good thing that folks that hire my services don't feel the same way! Imagine if all my customers had your high standards, why...I wouldn't be making money on this hobby! :rofl :rofl :rofl

Well said!

Since you agree that you don't have very high standards, maybe you shouldn't take it upon yourself to critique/ edit other people's photo's here, unless asked to do so.

In every case that you have "corrected" someone's photo here, you have:

1. not been asked to do so
2. not "corrected" the original photo.

You have a nice hobby. Have fun selling the stuff to the soccer moms.

Inteligence might not be very high up on your list of personal atributes.

1. I said you could email me
2. you said you could not post attachments through the BBS email option
3. I asked you to email me so I could return your email, thus giving you access to my true email address.

Did I miss anything?

WTG! With that extra money, you may think about getting CS2 and investing in a basic photography class.

Not trying to be mean, just offering some helpful advice in the same spirit that you have offered advice to others, unasked. :)

Here are a couple you can edit. Do your best! As a photographer you should know that if you have your camera set up for a shot, you won't have to use your editting software, but here, give it a shot. These are lousy photos that need editing. :)

Nice pictures rip, they look very good to me (un-educated non photo proffesional eye) beyond my skill level, and camera. I have a two year old canon I can't even remember the model number. haha. :)

If you would have posted a few pics, Rip probably would have corrected them for you at no charge and without you even asking!

well..I would correct your attitude, but you would have to ask me (military training and all, you gotta ask and want, for me to abuse you).

Other than that ByeBye, well....buhbye!

You are obviously not cut out for an aviation type forum, so I suggest you move on, or back to your regularly scheduled "team night" in warcraft homo quest, or whatever it is you did before you came to this BBS.

In short and for truth, if you perisist here, you will get eaten alive.

Recant and leave, and irregardless, smarten up.

Well, I've posted quite a few pictures over the years here and had not had any "corrected" hell, even if rip or anyone else cleaned up pictures/resized whatever I would probably appreciate it. And seeing that you have just registered on this board not too long ago, for you to know what pictures rip does, or does not correct leads me to believe that this is a shades account.

So, I'm not sure why you are ragging on rip for. Unless I'm completely missing something that happened in another thread/forum, I'd agree with RTR. I'm not sticking up for Rip, he is capable of that himself. I think i've only played AH with him a couple times over the years i've been here. Of course, he still gets hell for his carpeted garage. (sorry rip :P )

Wtg Rip. Making money off your hobby is the way to go. You are either a true talent, or you have been working hard to get good but the bottom line is that you shoot some good stuff.

I made abit of money of photograpy once. Got some russian currency in a gray envelope for some dull photos i took inside my naval base. No idea why someone would pay for booring pics like that but there you go. He prolly had some antenna fetish. Stupid guy.

Ive had plenty of people editing photos of me here and ive been mostly pleased with the result. :D

I'd have to say that he edited the photos I posted absolutely at my request.  I even thanked him for it.

Your touch-ups and critiques were...well...non existant.  But you've got long hair and a gem for a belly button anyways so I'll stop feeding the troll.

http://www.printroom.com

We set up an online store, set up our own price sheet, then we just upload thumbnails.  Customer and printroom does the rest (except when the Pro Manager software on my desktop gets an order, I have it set to automatically upload the fullsize image when an order comes in)

We just collect the monthly checks and upload!

For sports outside, I use a Nikon D70s w/70-300mm G f/4-5.6 currently. The lens is a piece of crap.

I've got a new 80-200mm AF-D ED f/2.8 coming in the mail, should be here by Wed.  It shoots like a 300mm on a digital camera. much better glass than the G series.  I picked it up for $710 brand new ($999.00 retail).  I really wanted the AF-S, but I couldn't justify the additional $500 for 20% increase in focus speed. Alot of the focusing I do is  manual.  About the only advantage of the AF-S vs the AF-D is that the AF-S has a motor within the lens, whereas the AF-D uses the camera body motor to focus, which translates into a quieter focus (thus the -S, for Silent)
