Title: Skins Problem...
Post by: Bogie603rd on September 29, 2006, 11:05:12 AM
Well, I was planting some skins into my new GV terrain. One for the T-34, which worked nicely, and one for the Tiger. The tiger skin was too bright and desert like, so I switched to a darker camoflauge. The problem is, when I switched the skin, it would not display the way the bitmaps were drawn. Here are some pictures to explain.

This is the bright skin I tried at first:

Then I converted to this one:

Yet, once I loaded the terrain, selected the tiger, and spawned it, the skin remains like this (In-Game Photo I took):

So I thought maybe the old skin didn't remove itself. I took the tiger skin off completely, re-built the terrain, loaded it in Aces High, it showed it's default skin. Then I tried again having the same result. It showed the desert skin, not the forest skin.

I checked the bitmaps, they are the way they look on the picture I showed above from the forest camo, but they are displayed as the desert camo as the in-game screen shot shows. I got these skins here:
http://www.ah-skins.com/skins/vehicles/german.html
Their the lower two skins.

Anyone have any idea what's going on, or what I am doing wrong?

Cache of Aces High II folder or ah2editor folder?
EDIT: Congratulations of your 3000th post!

Should've worked, but didn't. I tried two different ways to make it work. First was to delete the cache folder before opening the TE, then building the terrain. That didn't work. Second was to delete the cache folder, open the TE, exit the TE and save changes, delete the cache folder AGAIN, and then open and build the terrain through the TE. That didn't work either.

I also noticed that my tower chalk-board didn't update when I placed some new content into it. I placed an extra name in the credits but it won't show up, it remains as the original bitmap I placed in there to re-write the default tower chalk-board. So, that's an odd pattern. You can edit it once, but afterwards anything you put in there to replace the edited bitmap, it will not accept it and remain displaying the previous edited bitmap...

Kinda hard to explain, propably because my brain's busted over this not working. And i'm 3 days from the debut of my terrain.

Bogie, are you remembering to copy your new RES file from ahedit/ahiiterr into AHII/ahiiterr? Sometimes I forget that step. :)

On second thought, if you are changing the default skin of a vehicle, you probably have to clear the stdshapes folder, too... not just the cache.

Ooooh... let me take a look at that, and no, I wasn't forgeting to move the .res file.
EDIT: The stdshape folder is erased when I erase the "cache" folder from the "ah2editor" directory, that can't be it.

Try deleting your htc/aces high/cache/map name folder.AH stores textures that are precached and doesn't update them(my theory)

Well, it only has to be proven to work 4 more times before your theory becomes fact, cause it worked for me. THANKS DUH!:D
