Layoffs have occurred, one of them being Hoof. Not good, not good at all. Can't post there to say "Sorry, Hoof", so I'll say it here. :(
-
For whom the bell tolls...
Where did you hear this?
-
Straight off the board. At first a rumor, confirmed by Killer, then Hoof stepped forward as one of the released. It is true.
-
That's really too bad.
SOB
-
You know what rodents do when the ship sinks.
-
Just a case of someone in Texas descriminating against a webfoot.
Hope it works out for you Hoof<S>
AKDejaVu
-
Well it was not just Hoof. Borrowed from "elsewhere" (a public place but also seen on a private source) is a list of those reportedly laid off. And there's several there I recognize as "founts" for the patently false pre-release hype and bullsh&t:
Gryf
Snail
Hoof
Hoss
Caligula
Vandal
Kango
Tongue
---
Salad
Meat (these two apparently quit)
---
Plus all of the Mac development people.
-
Hmmm... that's quite a list. Just who the hell does that leave? Killer?
AKDejaVu
-
Mo, Hatch, Killer, Frying Tiger, DocDoom, Rafter, Ramp as a few names not tossed about as having already left (like Flapz) or been booted.
Westy
-
Hmm,
No mac software boy is MG gonna be pissed
LOL
Moto
-
Hoss
Caligula
That is/was the Mac Team.
This is sad. WWIIOL has the best idea in WWII MMP Sims, but it's many problems with the initial release hurt it badly. I know many of you AH FanBoys can't stomach anything but Aces HIgh Uber Alles, but if(as Air Warrior did)WWIIOL dies, or if WBIII dies, we ALL will lose a lot too. A lot.
Whether ANY Online MMP WWII Air Combat Sim can survive economically is very much in doubt. We may end up having to play on somebody's dedicated server(like we do with NASCAR 4, Grand Prix Legends, Falcon 4, and possibly IL-2, and SOMEBODY has to pay for the bandwidth/equipment) with very "mission specific" gameplay.
Some people, especially the "hardcore grognards" may like this, but many, many players won't.........
I can't believe some of you jack-asses take pleasure in the financial demise, or the financial struggles of, a bunch of people trying their damndest to bring a concept to life that they BELIEVE in very much but, on upon further consideration based on reading the Aces High BBS from it's inception, i'm not surprised at all........

You are correct Cabby. Most of us "AH fanboys" just sit back and criticize CorneredRat for no real reason. Its not like any of us went and spent $40 on the game when it was first released only to find one of the most buggy poorly implemented MMPGs we'd ever seen. Nah... its just blind jealousy.
You guys that stuck with the game are the real heroes. The ones that insisted that all the bugs, CTDs and framerate problems would be fixed in the next patch. The ones that insisted that intentions merrited support as opposed to results. The ones that insisted that any problems were end-user issues and couldn't possibly by CR's fault.
Yep.. we're just fanboys over here.

While I was vocal on the WWIIO boards about things, and while I was hammered for doing so, I still don't like to see people become unemployed.
Cabby, your ad hoc attack on the AH community in this case is unmerited. There are people here that do play the other game, have played the other game, and assuming some day it is playable, will play the other game. I played, I found it unsuitable to me, I left. Is that so bad?
Like AKD said, some of us paid money (therefore supported the project) and have a right to our opinions. That said, I don't see anyone clicking their heels in glee that people have lost their jobs.
Step down off the soapbox. I understand the free market society as well as any, and competition is good. I feel options for the consumer are good, too. I didn't find the other sim appealing, and tragically neither did the majority of people who bought the game. And, like AKD, I grew very tired of being told the game was great when it wasn't, and that all the probs were end-user. I do feel sorry for those that are released; I must say however I feel the others will follow shortly. The writing is on the wall.
-
That's sad to hear. :(
Some good folks are out of work.
If not for Gryf helping a newbie like me, I would have given up on online flight sims almost 3 years ago.
But hell, you got to give them credit for taking a chance and giving it a good shot. <S>

Hey Cabby'
I payed my 40 bucks for WW2 so i can say whatever I f@#KING LIKE ABOUT THAT toejam SOFTWARE.It is sad that Hoss and Cal got canned :(
now go back to your beloved WB3

Neither am I Cabby.. it's no surprise at all that folks around here prefer to fly and support a sim that actually works on a machine that they CURRENTLY own, and is used to gettin what they pay for. AH is (surprise) STILL the best damn WWII flight sim available anywhere. You might wanna give Aces High a try yourself... but get another handle. And learn to fly.

"Whether ANY Online MMP WWII Air Combat Sim can survive economically is very much in doubt. "
The only thing in doubt is whether they can survive going corporate.
AW lived since 1986, going corporate eventually killed it.
WB's Has been around since 1994, going corporate seems to be slowly killing it.
FA...well it always was corporate, but it isn't the same type of game as WB, AW and AH is.
WW2OL had to sell out to survive long enough to make it to store shelves, now it is suffering.
AH is currently NOT corporate, and is doing fine by all accounts.

That's bad news. I paid my dues and my $40 trying to like that game. It just wasn't going to happen.
-
I don't know the people that got layed off at WW2O any more than the folks who lost jobs when Edsel closed. Sorry folks lost jobs. Same as I'm sorry when anytime anyone anywhere gets layed off. But the product stunk to high heavan. No matter how much heart and soul some said they were putting into it the thing was defective to the core. I personally don't care much if CRS closes shop. Same with EA and AirWarrior.
The combined battlefield...The all encompassing war is a dream has always been around. Playnet didn't invent that dream. They may have tried to make it real but so far seem to be failing pretty bad. In spite of all their hype. If they close the dream won't die with them. People have wanted to play in that type of environment and always will. I was one. I would have easily and gladly payed $10/mo for a working, fun feature filled WW2O sim. My interest in WW2O sank like a 50ton lead weight back in May when I found out from beta testers just how plowed up the thing REALLY was. Again, in spite of the lies and hype from CRS stating the contrary.
"i'm not surprised at all........"
Cabby, that's because you have a couple of gears slipping away "upstairs".

Yeah, stuff like fighters and bombers, tanks, flaks, trucks, convoys, trains, carrier groups, submarines, amphibious troop carriers, a supply system, maybe a FPS bit for field capture...
if only SOMEBODY would work on a WW2 game like that and it actually worked. Of course, you'd want them to keep improving it and putting out an update every three months or so.
Man, that would be something, wouldn't it? It'd have to be affordable too... maybe $15 a month or so.
:D
Life is good.. if you know where to look!
-
Cabby, allow me to tell yah a lil story 'bout a guy I know.. he's got a fancy piece of paper sez he's a hot toejam pilot too. And he's spent a gazzillion hours flyin all kindsa kewl stuff everywhere. For money. Every day. The same self annoited god took the controls of his purdy new 1/4 scale R/C airplane and promptly augered it.
He can't fly a WWII flight sim worth a toejam either.
The posession of skills in one has not one lil thing to do with the other.
Oh, BTW; yer a Tard too.
;)

IMO, its bad planning. All CRS had to do is look at what happened to other developers who gave the rights of their game to big companies (publishers) and/or put themselves on a "slave" position to the corporations.
BC3K, Planetary Raiders... and many other games suffered of this, and only BC3K still lives on..because the developer went solo after re-acquiring the rights to his own game. www.3000ad.com (http://www.3000ad.com) .
What happened to CRS? From what i've seen and experienced in my painful 2 months of owning that piece of crappy software: CRS starts making game, but go to big daddy publisher for support. At this point it becomes fuzzy if it was the publisher that "forced" them into releasing the game or if it was a mutual act of desperation. In any case, CRS clearly did not plan at ALL for any aspect of gameplay, relying on just pumping up the number of units on the game and fixing the horrido amount of bugs (a joke flew around that WW2OL was a Bug with delusions of gaming).
Ye all know the ridiculous tank quake fest it was, the laughable flight model and the total uselessness of the infantry.
Then came to total lack of costumer support and tech support, the HUGE amount of lies and broken promises from CRS and the intense confrontations between costumers and CRS staff on the boards... not a healthy thing for any community.
Looking back at it, I think the ONLY thing they got better than other online games out there is the fact that their AI A-A gunners had to RELOAD their guns after firing their clip!
Let WW2OL go down, perhaps Microsoft will buy it out and do something with it.
I think CRS really had no clue what they were doing in the first place. :(

Get a WB's account, Hangtime, and put your money where your mouth is. I'm not the one slamming "your" sim, i just don't choose to play it. I'm also not enough of a juvenile to "challenge" your computer-game "flying ability".
So if you want to prove i can't play a game as well or better than you, you will have to get that WBIII account and, as they say, "show me".......
BTW, you go on thinking you are some kind of "flying ace" and that you are "flying" the "best" computer simulation available. I may be, as you say, a "Tard", but i'm not delusional........

Well I don't like to good people lose jobs but I kinda think this is more like a mercy killing.
CRS is going under and the sooner some of these guys get out the better they will be.
-
Just for the record, as I've said many times before, I'm in support of anyone doing a WW2 air combat game. WB, AW, FA, AH, WW2OL, I salute them all.
Competiton is good and it improves the breed. Obviously, no matter what we like to think, the marketplace isn't going to support them all. There will be a Darwinistic result.
AW stopped progressing (for whatever reason). It was "Darwined" out.
WW2OL, admirable for it's vision and notable for it's ambition, was "Darwined" out because in the words of Lieutenant General Frederick Browning, "But, sir, I think we might be going a bridge too far."
Had WW2OL started a bit more modestly, done it right and then expanded into an all aspect WW2 game they might have made it.
Without a shred of proof, I personally think it's quite possible that AH is headed that way. It started with a viable, workable ACM aspect. It has garned enough of a player base to survive and fund further expansion, without selling its soul to the "suits". Clearly, the expansion continues; HT's recent interview gave a peek at the possibilities. Funded by its own happy player base, the future looks interesting indeed.
I salute the WW2OL team for what they tried to accomplish.

Great another post from crabby.Another I need attention post and my sim is better than your sim.
Why do you think we even care what you think anymore?Pull down your IEN cheer leader skirt,as your bellybutton is showing again.
You know if you try real hard you might be able to join mg and bobn as stellar members of your beloved community.
A lot of us came from warbirds and still have a lot of friends there.I am just glad you are not representitive of most of them.

Layoffs are sad, but we all knew this was coming.
You make a crap game, you pay the price. I'd like to know whats the ratio of people who bought the game, kept playing, and those who quit shortly after?

Quote from Cabby on AGW about Aces High:
I'm tellin' ya, WBIII could go tits-up tomorrow and i would rather toss my flight controllers in the trash-can than play with that crowd, as if anyone would care one way or another.
So, then tell me cabby... Why are you here polluting our boards if you have absolutely no interest in this game what-so-ever? Contrary to your own self-opinion, your are acting quite juvenile. And before you say, "But, they do the same thing on AGW!" That is no excuse for you to come hear to troll the Aces High community.
And, yes, I do read AGW. However, I don't post there even though I have just as much right to do so as you. I spent 2 years of my life helping to develop WB. But, I don't play WB anymore, so it's inappropriate for me to post there. You, as well as others, would do well to follow this logic.

Get a WB's account, Hangtime, and put your money where your mouth is.
Flew it for years. Flew over here when they put this in beta. Was one of the first to send HTC money. I like this sim... and I enjoyed WB's till they put in the RPS. In my humble opinion AH is better. And, I've always put my money where my mouth is....
I'm not the one slamming "your" sim, i just don't choose to play it.
Really??!! Then why in hell are you over here callin US love muffines?
I'm also not enough of a juvenile to "challenge" your computer-game "flying ability".
Ahh... but you hesitated not an instant to wave about yer pilots license... kinda like bringing yer third grade report card to the recess rumble, don'tcha think sonny boy?
So if you want to prove i can't play a game as well or better than you, you will have to get that WBIII account and, as they say, "show me".......
Cabby; I ain't on yer boards talkin trash; you came over here and decided to start toejam with us. You wanna play, you don't even have to pay. Who knows, mebbe you'll even be able to get the wheels up.
BTW, you go on thinking you are some kind of "flying ace" and that you are "flying" the "best" computer simulation available. I may be, as you say, a "Tard", but i'm not delusional........
I am by no means any kind of "flying ace", in fact, I pretty much suck at this game; theres plenty of sim pilots in AH that are better than me on-line here at any given time, day or night. But I DO think this is the BEST sim, and I have a ball flyin it.
So; go on home to WB's or WWII or wherever you actually fly a sim and wave yer pilots ticket around and hop up and down till yer mommy shows up fer the nappy change you so desperatly need... cause yer stinkin this place up, sonny-boy.
-
Jeez Cabby, have some respect for yourself and restrain from replying to these posts, or I am 100% sure you will make more of a tard of yourself.
Oh boy I cant wait to see your next reply!!
-
So, what will Cabby do when WB's goes bust? FA3? :D
-
Hey Cabby, maybe your handle should be Crabby. And whats WBIII and WW2OL, you guys told me Aces High was the only WW2 flight sim. Or was that Aces High was the only WW2 flight sim worth playing.

If I can do it you damn sure don't want to fight Hangtime.

I gave them $70, they gave me crap. My 'puter beat the hell out of their RECOMMENDED sys reqs, and I was getting 7 fps.
IMO AH kicks the watermelon out of WW2OL. And the numbers tell. I've been watching WW2OL numbers since they went pay for CTD. They are continually and steadily decreasing. Meanwhile AH's number keep going up...good. CRS lied to me, they're going under...good.

If you, as you say, READ AGW, just CHECK the DIFFERENCE in repsonses to the bad news about WWIIOL and the PEOPLE(some of whom i have talked to online many times, some in person, some i PLAY OTHER GAMES WITH every week) who USED to WORK there for a LIVING to the general NASTINESS posted at THIS BBS towards both WARBIRDS and WWIIOL.
Not only do AH'ers post their NEGATIVE DRIVEL here, but they do it at AGW AS WELL. That too, SUX. COMPRENDE???
I didn't say ONE WORD about the GAME ACES HIGH, which i happen to think is A GREAT GAME. A game SUPERIOR to WB's 2.77 but, IMHO, not FOR ME at THIS TIME. But the ATTITUDE of your PLAYER BASE sometimes leaves MANY of we WARBIRDS/AIR WARRIOR/WWIIOL ETC. PLAYERS gasping. Why are they SO NASTY and so QUICK to RUN-DOWN OTHER GAMES AND DEVELOPERS??? This turns many potential AH CUSTOMERS OFF.
Many POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS of YOUR company would like to see a more MATURE attitude in the AH ARENA, and maybe a DIFFERENT DIRECTION in GAMEPLAY than the one Aces High is currently embarked upon. BUT, that doesn't mean Aces High isn't a GREAT GAME. Nor does it mean that OTHER GAMES aren't as GREAT A GAME as Aces High. They are just DIFFERENT.
I post here in the "OFF TOPIC"(which i assume means UNCENSORED) AH BBS because i have ALWAYS considered myself a POTENTIAL customer of HTC. I don't POST NEGATIVE COMMENTS about AH in the AH MAIN BBS because that's STUPID, and UN-CALLED FOR. I LIKE Aces HIgh. If some of the morons who posted in this thread don't WANT me as CUSTOMER of HTC, i couldn't care less. They can kiss my ass.

Not a slam, rather a compliment to both.

You are full of crap. You label this entire community like you HAVE some right too. I was a paying customer of WB's too, and have fond memories and still have friends there. But I dont label that community because of idiots like you. I COMPRENDE all that you said, and it is pure BS. You are just an antogonizing moron, just wanting to create trouble. Nobody is buying your lies. I dont believe that the majority of the WB's community feels the way you do about AH and its community.

Cabby where did that AGW topic go where scrmbl called AH "amazinhunks High" ?
I used to play WB in h2h and thought it would be nice to test it online someday but 'cause guys like you and scrmble I'm not interested anymore :)
What was that word... uhm.. potential customer ?

I played AWIII and Warbirds hated the disco's that never got fixed, and Im on adsl account. Never played WWIIonline probably never will, the game just doesnt interrest me at all. I havent played Aces High much latetly but my money still goes to Hitech. Why is that? Hitech started in Airwarrior as a hacker if I remember correctly then became a programmer, then he Started another game called WarBirds. Wont go into detail of why he left there I would get it wrong anyway. But he started another game and here we are today.
Before anyone flames me for not trying WWIIOL I met almost all the guy at playnet they are a great bunch of guys Im not into a everlasting battle I like dog fighting.
-
Looking up at the posts prior to Cabbys, I dont see anyone celebrating the layoffs at CRS. Instead I saw mostly sympathy. Cabby is way off base with his comments.
BTW
Hi-Performance Retract
Arent those just endorsements in a logbook and not actually part of a pilots license? Seems to me you are indicating you have the most basic rating, single engine private pilot land (as opposed to seaplane).
I have been fortunate this last summer to have been flying a couple new planes, one in the high performance category and one in the complex (retract plus), they are:
N3N-3, rated as high performance, has a 235 hp engine, but flys kinda slow (think Stearman with 4 ailerons) :)
Piper Apache - retract, flaps, constant speed props, 150hp engines.
Coincidentally I got my license in 1980 too, but it dont make me a flight sim hero, I get shot down all the time.
I never tried WW2Online, so I dont feel qualified to speak about it, but like the rest of the AH gang here, I truely sympathize with those who have unfortunately had to leave their employment. I wish them the best.

Ya'll gotta remember we're just kids and all the mature folks are looking down on us from their cloud in the sky called WB.
I just laugh because numbers in the main approach 400 while during the free trials of WB3 I've never seen those numbers more then 150.
I think that between AH, WB, and WWIIOL, AH is just pullin away from the competition. I'm just waiting for Vertigo and the Haze to come over. I bet they will when the bombing aspect of AH is changed towards what HT said in that article.
What the hell would I do then? I miss the JPC
-
LMAO@Cabby. I think I've not seen such an hypocrit moron since MG/Macboy/whateverhewascalled.
Unlike many others, I dont want you to stop posting here. Each time I read one of your posts about AH, I simply have a ball laughing :D
Regarding CRS, I was one of the fediddlein idiots who threw 70$ to the fediddlein trash can, thinking it was worth it. Yeah, man, 70 bucks,as the game is not published in Europe yet (thankfully for most us europeans), and I bought it in an imports shop wich, of course, sold it for a way higher price than in USA.
I used to have some fun tanking, and did my eventual runs as infantryman. The flight part was so FULL of crap that I simply had to leave it apart (Even when each time I got a 109 or spit I could spank any prettythang I found. But there was no challenge, was SO easy to kill all those dweebs). not to mention that it was buggy as hell, with enormous "jumps" ,HD accesses, etc, with a 512mb RAM machine.
I gave up in less than a month. Tried now and then but for me those 70 bucks were as good as burned.
Granted, I liked the idea. Granted, I liked the promises. And I LOVED the no-lindablair--view and the icon settings they used in planes(PLEASE HTC, MAKE A SIMILAR ICON FOR the CT arena!!!!!!!!!!). But it is full of bugs, is unplayable due horrific FPS and customer support is unexistant.
I am sad each time someone loses a job. But I think that CRS sealed WWIIOL's fate not by releasing an unfinished product-there was an ENORMOUS player base WANTING to love, play, and defend the game- but because the UNEXISTANT customer support, the LIES of CRS, and the CONTINUOUS confrontation in the boards between CRS and the unhappy customers.
That last thing really turned me away from WWIIOL. CRS released a bug instead a game, and yet they DARED to have public arguments with the unhappy guys who had spent 40$ in a piece of software crap; instead of ANSWERING the emails from the ppl who needed help.
I think that the sim/company is as good as ded. Wont survive long. And if it does it wont be with my money, they already stole me 70 bucks.

Good cod that guy (Cabby) has got a few screws loose. I've seen rabid (been there myself a few times <G> ) before but he takes the cake. What a warped and strange perspective he has on these things.

Heh, potential customers that antagonize paying customers aren't exactly worth shedding tears over.
Neither is someone who sells you a turd in a candy bar wrapper, which is why you don't see more sympathy for CRS.

I think it sucks for those guys too since I know many of them, and they nice guys. But, that's not the point of my post.
Not only do AH'ers post their NEGATIVE DRIVEL here, but they do it at AGW AS WELL. That too, SUX. COMPRENDE???
Read about what I stated previously before you say, "but, they do it on AGW!"
I didn't say ONE WORD about the GAME ACES HIGH, which i happen to think is A GREAT GAME. A game SUPERIOR to WB's 2.77 but, IMHO, not FOR ME at THIS TIME.
Please.... You are definitely talking about AH, and you know it. You're just being a hypocrit now.
I agree, and you're attitude is right on track with those same unnamed people you so despise.
I post here in the "OFF TOPIC"(which i assume means UNCENSORED)AH BBS because i have ALWAYS considered myself a POTENTIAL customer of HTC.
This is not uncensored, just more liberally maintained than the other forums. You are either lying to yourself or me based upon the quote (and other posts I've read) I posted from you on AGW.
I don't POST NEGATIVE COMMENTS about AH in the AH MAIN BBS because that's STUPID, and UN-CALLED FOR.
Thank you, I appreciate it.
HOWEVER, if YOU think i should take my OPINIONS(and by inference, MY MONEY) elsewhere, then perhaps i should RECONSIDER.....IS THAT CLEAR ENOUGH FOR YOU, SUPERFLY???
I have no problem with you being a customer. It's just your high-and-mighty attitude and the condescending you do that stinks.
So, let ME make it perfectly clear to YOU. If you continue you act this way towards me, any other HTC staff, or our customers, you will find yourself banned from the boards. Is that clear enough for you son?

Hmmm. Seems a little egocentric to talk about controlling peoples behavior to suit a particular constitutency. Sadly, we do have a 1st Amendment and it does, shockingly, apply even in the hallowed halls of online gaming.
In light of all the crap going on in the world today, it sounds to me like you have lost your perspective.
-
Cabby you've made more than one comment about Aces High the GAME over the years why do you lie now? If you think the HTC are intolerant to people posting negative comments try posting on iEN's forums. I made a tongue in cheek remark about early WBIII screenshots and I was banned..my first so called 'offense' in six years playing the game. Perhaps you missed the url you typed in to get here, just to refresh your memory its www.hitechcreations.com (http://www.hitechcreations.com) yes thats right this site is HTC's official board for their customers to hang out and chat, AGW is not an official iEN board so more flames appear there but iEN police their boards alot stronger. You've already said over on AGW you'd never play AH even if WB died tommorow so drop the "potential customer" BS just another lie in a long line for you. Superfly works for HTC, you would'nt give this crap to Hotseat, Divine or Iceman stop trolling and go play WB.

I’d like to nominate Cabby’s response for Rude’s “whine of the week”.
His use of sporadic capitols in conjunction with gibberish along with double question marks should oust the one posted for this week by far!

Maybe HTC needs to adopt the same policy as the Cornered Rats. If you don't subscribe to their game, you don't get to post on their boards.
I participated in their beta, I bought the CD. The game quit recognizing my joystick (MS PP, usb) after ver. 120 and the customer support team couldn't care less about helping me out.
After the free month of play, I let my account lapse (as the game ain't much fun without the use of a joystick), I could no longer post on their boards.
Good luck CRS.
-
I think it's good that the board is open to anyone who wants to post to it. Guys from WB (or WWIIOL for that matter) are just as good as AHers to post here in my book. Unfortunately, you just have to take the good with the bad, and Cabby is obviously one of the bads.
To Cabby: No one cares about you or your opinion of anyone, whether here or on AGW. We're all a part of the WWII MMPOG community whether you like it or not and no matter what the sim is we're all looking for pretty much the same thing. A fun experience flying WWII planes and shooting people down. Get a life.
SOB
PS...Crabby, this thread turned sour as a direct result of your intervention and mud slinging. Don't kid yourself into thinking you support some high moral cause for the guys over at WWIIOL.

You cut out the H2H guys that way, Weave.

Man, that would be something, wouldn't it? It'd have to be affordable too... maybe $15 a month or so.
:D
Life is good.. if you know where to look!
Back to the subject:
Toad, bingo big time :)
WWIIOl, the game, is just too ambitious. Too much was promised in too short a timeframe.
AH will slowly and steadly move in that direction without promising the "dream" :) Suddenly we will wake and find ourselves totally immersed in WWII!!
I figure when I get back online in a couple of months after recovery I will find AH advancing faster then my perception was when I was following it day by day. I am still amazed at the speed of the developement of this sim. Always something new and interesting.

and the saga continues....
"Mo" left CRS on his own however Toto, Hatch, Lindir, and another were laid off this week. Good luck guys. Liked Toto, didn't know Lindir much and well plainly put I couldn't stand Hatch (or Doc). Still. I hate to see anyone laid off at all.
and best of luck guys.

Wouldn't be suprised, some unofficial game numbers put the online playerbase at not much bigger than AH's (1.5-2x is my guess). Lots of things have happened in the last 6 months, imho crs are trying to make a game for 100,000 players with only 7000 players... and its not working. Sad really, the playerbase are so supportive (welll maybe except for me) of CRS - if it does go CRS can take the blame all by themselves.
Roll on ToD.
-
I haven't seen a good cross-bbs pissing match in years. These were always fun to read.
I enjoyed the ground aspect of WWIIOL. Sorry to hear about the housecleaning, that always sucks.
-
"...going belly up soon?"
CRS was larger than HTC from day one. Half the original '99 crew were laid off or left at one point or another. I added and X in front of those I know have left or were let go and ?'s marks for those I think were also...
John MacQueen President/COO
Jim Mesteller, CEO
X Roger "FT" Long
? Steve "Caligula" Evans
? Troy "Rampage" Lowe
? David "Cap'n Trips" Bell
X Rodney "Hatch" Hodge
X Mark "Snail" Pribe
X Chris "Mo" Sherland
X John "Kango" Lundy
X Jonathan "Hoof" Hoof
? Russell "Hoss" Mirabelli
? Marty "Vandal" Poulin
? Ron "Caveman" McClellan
X Neil "Corn" Huntley
? Kevin "Squirm" Rivas
X Jennifer "Dragon" Bell
Geof "DocDoom" Evans
Al "Rafter" Corey
This time what transpired would be akin, IMO, to most everyone leaving or being let go at HTC except HiTech and say, Superfly.
Mo was thier "Pyro" and the other guys were prominent too. Not just mere webboard scourging, customer bashing loudmouths. ;) IMO this may have a major impact on future development - at the very least the speed of it will come to a crawl for a while.

When CRS refunds the 50 bucks or so I paid for their piece of crap software. That in the first couple YEARS!!! didnt even come close to being what they said it would be. I might have some feelings besides HAHA!!!!!!!!! untill then they can kiss my arse. I and god knows how many others were ripped off and lied to about the playability and function of their software released years bofore it was even close to being ready.
So dont come in here and tell me how I should feel about the company that ripped me off STFU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is of the greatest concern, because right now the game is in the "most" need of fixing up. My sub is still active, but for the last month or so I've been this >< close to unsubbing due to the effect reset modelling and ingame rule changes have on my squadies (aka the Breakfast Club). A lot of them have unsubb'd.
I really am anxiously awaiting ToD, while WW2OL's "theatre" is way more fun than the AH MA, the flight and damage models (or lack of) are extremely frustrating - especially for an axis player.

Mo was a real prettythang to customers with complaints, maybe customer service will be better now.
I don't play Aces High anymore. It's not that I don't like Aces High, I think it's a great game that is managed very well. The customer service is second to none and the gameplay is top notch. The reason I don't play anymore is that I have drifted away from the flight sim and can't afford 2 games.
WW2online has many issues, one being customer service and an arrogance to issues posted by customers. Gameplay has some issues also, and the flight model could use some work. What also hurts ww2online is that it is the same map over and over. There is no eastern front, no pacific theater, etc. It gets a little boring playing the same map over and over. The game has been around five years and it is still in Belgium.
The concept of the game is fantastic, and although CRS really pisses me off at times, I would hate to see the game go belly up, cause there is no other game like it. Even with all the gameplay issues, you can find yourself totally immersed. I hoped that CRS would fix alot of the issues and the game would be what everyone had envisioned. I still hope it succeeds.
lol, they hate when I bring up Aces High on their boards, I will post how Aces High does a game feature and suggest CRS could do it(like kill shooter) and I get roasted:D
I wish they had the same customer service as AH. Where else can you pick up the phone, call, and actually have the owner answer the phone and help you?
Again, I would hate to see the concept die, they had a great idea, and I hope they succeed.

I played WW2OL for 4 years, sometimes till sun rise. What killed the games was what they call "AO" or attack objectives. Where a few players in the game would place one of these on a town and you could not caputure any other town but that one. So you had to it there way and no other.
So when some "one hand typing" said you have to attack town X I said C YA.

I like the AO, I don't like it's implementation. The moling was rediculous, so they had to do something. It gives fair warning that radios will be coming up. If you can get 3 people to ".attack ciney", then an AO should be placed on Ciney. If no radios are captured within 20 minutes(20 min after radios are up), then the AO should be removed and another AO cannot be placed for 20 minutes.
At times there will be only 2 AO's, and only "high command" can place them, it sucks. Let the players call the shots, not the HC. They are making the game HC friendly instead of squad friendly. Why brag about having this huge virtual world and force all the action to a small part of it?
I agree, and kind of arrogant of them, "you will pay $15 a month, and we will tell you where and how to play" kinda makes you wanna flip em the bird

I was on the beta team for a while at WWIIOL. Had lunch at the bar/restaurant across the street, then went over to CRS for intro , etc. met Gryf and some of the early guys there. Good folks. I couldn`t beleive it was released to the public as it was at the time. It was certainly not ready. I`m assuming it was an effort to make ends meet and I can understand that if that was the reason. Like I say , I don`t know for sure. For me it was like..... "Huh? You got to be kidding me". I bailed as things seemed mired 6ft deep in the mud and went no place for quite a while. I sure hate to see the guys that put so much effort into it lose their jobs. I think everyone here can agree on that.
Coming to the AH board and talking smack is , I`m sure, not what most of the guys involved would want.

A good software business model runs lean and mean, low overhead, like AH. It appears WW2 online started off on the wrong foot by being way top heavy. Sorry to hear of the layoffs, but usually something good will happen to those laid off as new opportunities arise.
-
"Now Im feeling a bit tooled......"
Guys it's not a troll. IMO these recent layoffs were just an extension to this topic in spite of the time that had passed. IMO it was better than starting a new discussion.
Vulcan, I fell exactly the way you do. However WWIIO was no longer filling the need till TOD.
I canned my WWIIO account about 4 months ago. With the assinine, heavily restrivtive direction they were taking the game (which stilll sucks donkey dong as far as performance and unfixed bugs goes) and thier inability to restrain DocDoom from spewing his acidic, cantankerous responses at the players I gave them my virtual "finger" by cancelling my sub.

I remember playing WW2OL after the boxed version came out. It was a pretty decent tank battle sim! The Hawk 75, Spit I, and 109E, Stuka and a Boston (?) bomber were the planes available while I played. I was dissapointed by the flight model and the overall use of planes in the game. Good tank battle sim though, I had fun with the tanks. One feature I wish AH would include is an offline furball capability like WB has (or had).
Sorry to hear about anyone losing a job they wanted.

Malta

If that game ever gets up to speed I might give it a try. Not really a WWII dude though. Now if there was a Vietnam online I'd be all over it.

I would like to see MO, Caligula and some other guys from CRS joining the HTC team.
And I would like to see people from WB, WWIIOnline and AH playing in one arena ..... in AHIII Unlimited :)

From my naive perspective it would make great sense for HTC to gain experience from a game like WWIIOL to improve the ground aspect of AH, i love the ground war in WWIIOL, its blows AH's out the water, but then again... AH is on a different planet to WWIIOL in terms of air war and fun factor!
I suppose that AH aims to be the flight sim whilst wwiiol aims the do the ground war, if AH could get a bit of that GV war into AH, with wwiiol crumbling, HTC could open themselves up to potentially thousands more subscribers.
I'm sure HTC know whats going on at CRS and thought about all this long ago :)
