Movie was ok - had parts from Top Gun, Pearl Harbor all rolled into one, but the dogfighting . . . . . . they spent half the time HOing!!!!!!!
A bunch of HOing dweebs - on both the German and the French side! UNBELIEVABLE!
I'm sure that when they incorporated the HOing sequences into the movie that they didn't realize that HOing was never a valid tactic in air combat, but then, what does Hollywood know, right? They even had Nieuports with one machine gun going head to head with DR1's with two - what kind of trade is that when you're outgunned by 50% from the get go? Those Spandau's should be perked!
But yes, I'll still buy the DVD when it comes out, even thouugh I think I liked the flying sequences in "The Blue Max" better - but I'll have to watch it again as it's been quite awhile and I could be mistaken . . . .

God I hope you're joking because if you're not you just make a Class "A" Donkey of yourself.
Ho is not only valid, it was recommended in many cases.

Only a coward would shoot a man in the back. HOs are for heroes.

Oops, did I forget to put a smilie after my previous post?:)

History recounts that head ons were one of the most effective tactics in early air combat. Unfortunately, they are also the most dangerous, and since you can never be sure which way the guy your heading towards is going to break (even if it seems obvious becuase of tourque, there is no gaurentee), it tended to be a less than desireable tactic.
However, if you are outmatched, either in machine or skill, and you get the chance to HO....then HO HO HO merry chicken game.

A piece of rope walks into a bar and the bartender says, "we don't serve your kind." The rope goes outside, ties himself in a knot and frays one end of himself. He walks back into the bar and the bartender says, "Weren't you just in here?" The rope replies, "No, I'm a frayed knot."

LOLZ :rofl
-
Considering the performance of the planes of that era HOs are bound to happen a lot (considering that the pilots are somewhat equal).

when someone fly's head on to a mossie or 110 they deserve to get HO'd

Haven't seen the movie but have you guys seen "Hell's Angels"? Yeah, I know its old and B&W, but man the flying was intense. They had scenes with over a hundred fighters and no CG, the real thing. If I recall correctly most of the planes were flown by WWI pilots.
Biggest problem now is they've got this idiotic Hollywood formula for big budget movies (like Pearl Harbor and Titanic) where the event the movie's supposed to be about (the war or a big ship sinking) is just something that happens in the background of some contrived and idiotic "love story".

HTC made "Dawn of aces", the IEN mog, im guessing all they did was update the graphics for Flyboys and give it some AI for the offline missions.
HTC already made his WWI game, i doubt he will make another.

saw the movie tonight. It was ok. It had good moments and bad. CGI only look obvious in a few spots. Fights sequences were good. I caught myself grimacing when the one guys plane caught fire and he shot himself. They didnt run the credits at the end of the movie though. Id get the DVD when its released.

OK movie IMO.. flying scenes are pretty cool.. but also pretty lame.. its like they are afraid to make a decent film with charachter development.. see "Dark Blue World" if you want to see a great movie.

I bought my leather jacket over the weekend, now to go see flyboys, then Snakes on a Plane!

I kept busting up laughing when the French chic would try to be dramatic and speak english, becuase her eyes would kinda roll up in her head and she would (and I apologize in advance for offending any bish) ...she would look mildly retarded.:lol
If you like airplanes(and if your reading this i assume you do)... you will enjoy seeing this flick at least once .. even if its to make fun of some aspects of it.
-
just saw flyboys, It Rocked! Its not a Blue Max or Hells angels of its time, but it did the genre well!

Should make a 'Flyboys' arena for WWI combat, might even bring some money in from advertising.
-
Have Superfly slap an extra wing on the D3A and the B5N and we're in business! (while hopefully avoiding copyright infringements and no-compete agreements :noid )
