You guys spanked me like a stepchild last night but it was a good time. Everytime I'd draw decent bead on one of your teammates I'd start coming apart and then hear 'check six' as I was spiraling down.
:rofl

they must be slipping up, they let you spiral down. :D

Dicho ... <
> bud ... was much fun ... I was lucky Lazs was with me last night ... I believe last night was my first night back in about 6 weeks or so ... so I needed a little help.
Many continued good fights went on in that area ... loved to see you mix it up, brush yourself off, and get right back in there ... that attitude will bring you a long way in this game as a fighter.

yep... good times with good fights. I allways respect a newer player who is willing to come right back at it and mix it up with me.
I get shot down by new guys all the time and I will tell you that some of my best fights have been with new guys who have fought me 3 times in a row and keep coming back.. they learn from their mistakes....
just like we all did in the old days...
A far cry from the ones who hide in the horde hoping to get a risk free scrap or two.
Salute to all the new guys who carry on the tradition of getting in there and mixing it up till they blow that "vet" right out of the sky...
I would rather be shot down in a furball by a newbie than cherry picked by some so called "vet" or ranked player..

My kill ratio sucks, most likely because I am too aggressive and inexperienced... last night Dicho and I were mixing it up in Mid War and a huge fighter sweep came in from a CV offshore the base. Before I knew it I was dogpiled by about 10 F6Fs and F4Us. I knew it was all over in short order but I was determined to take as many as I could with me. Got 3 before I got HOed (collided). Low and slow, on the deck... I always seem to end up there :)
Ah, sweet adrenalin.

Glad you had fun...question now tho?
isnt the above statement a description of a cherry pick? somebody was engaged, then jumped from behind while engaged? I always that a pick was when you killed somebody that was engaged with another.
-
yup, and the only time lazs and i met in the arenas he picked me off his teammate along with a few of his other wingmen, but hey, it was fun.
I think what lazs refers to as cherry pickers are more akin to what you and I might call boom and zoomers. he means anyone that doesnt give him a chance to shoot them.
what you gotta remember, its more important to talk smack right here forum side, on and on about how you play this way and that way, than it is to actualy do it in the arena.
-

Nah ... we were all low and swirling over the water. Everybody in that small furball was twistin' and turning either killing or trying to clear someones 6. The big difference is that when we commit to clear the 6 in the above scenario ... there is no safe way to retreat. Ya clear 'em and then you expect to see bullets fly by while you are getting numerous check 6s. Now if you can do all of the above and then land some kills ... your ACM and SA has been taxed to the max. xdak ... one of our squaddies went into the melee last night and emerged with 8 kills in an FM2 ... his pants were on fire.
A cherry picker will sit safely above the swirling mess ... swoop down and maybe clear someone's 6 ... but then zoom safely above the melee and look for the next unsuspecting target ... whatever floats your boat.
-
I dont know about the rest of the guys but to me there is a difference.
1. in the furball/fight, your chasing a target with other red planes around and you know one or more of them are about to get ya. They are taking the same risks you are, getting behind you and they are also vulnerable. You get your target, they get you and someone gets them.
2. Cherry pickers do everything they can to keep from exposing themselves to risks, high alt, stay out of the fray. watch and wait for someone whos SA is already probably staturated. Swoop down BnZ style, kill and zoom back up out of danger.
-
that is a good question... my answer would be that if you are in your high alt foxhole and dive in to take a risk free sissy little kick at someone then that is a pretty basic cherry pick... you dive in, stay hot and run like hell back home or to your perch.
hitting someone while low and slow in a furball who is likewise engaged is another matter in my opinion... you are in constant danger and every second you spend attacking someone give someone attacking you that much more opportunity.
Often I am taking snap shots while tracers are going by me from the guy who is latched on to me. snap shoot... reverse... dodge HO... snap shoot guy you just reversed.
It isn't complicated but it is fast action and does require a little more SA and acm than checking out the possibilities of egress (running away) and then diving in at full speed and making some slight correction for a guns solution without losing enough speed that anyone could have a hope of getting a shot at your rapidly retreating tailfeathers.

bat... I don't recall shooting you down but if I did... I bet I was lower and slower than you. If you didn't see me then I can't really help that.
I don't recall... the thing is tho... dich was in the fight in question... maybe you should ask him if he felt that he was in a fair fight or if I cherry picked him?
I would say that 90% of the time the guy I fight starts out higher than me. I am too lazy to climb and subject to nosebleeds.

no way lazs, i was in a low slow P40 fighting your guys from a CV, you in the FM2.
was a fun fight, and i never said it was unfair.
all i think is that yours and other peoples definition of a cherry pick must be somewhat different.
my version is of killing an enemy who is engaged with or about to kill another friendly. i regularly do this, i'm just wondering if you consider this to be a cherry pick because you know you do it yourself yet you condem the action of 'sherry picking'. understand my confusion?>

Why don't you start another thread to discuss the elusive defintion of a "Cherry Pick" ... cause it really has nothing to do with the theme of this thread.
-
I dunno slap I think it's worth a discussion but for the record I don't think I was cherry picked. I got shot down (SEVERAL TIMES) and once I saw that it was Laz, Slap, and assorted others I've seen on the boards, I decided to get back in there and mix it up some more. I 'think' I got Laz once but the second time in a row you killed me I was wondering if my plane skin was covered in target logos.. oh wait it was a spit so of course it is. Bottom line is it was a good time regardless of winning / losing. I got smoked trying to get someones teammate and they protected one of their own while risking their hides from some of my guys in blue. I tend to concur that the cherry picker hides up high, swoops in, kills, and runs. Maybe their idea of fun but not mine. Again
guys I hope to run into you some more. I wasn't too thrilled about getting vulched on the runway 5 times but that wasn't you guys and that's what I get for trying to up from a hot airfield.
Rock climbing tonight so I won't be on till after 9:00 cst.

I think Airscrew has the definition of 'cherry pick' pretty well nailed.
-
calm down slaphead, i wasnt the first to mention this, and i havent incited any riots have I?

The fact that you even posted here, given the title and content of the initial post, just shows what a tool you are, buttfunk.

truth...
come on hubs... I don't know what the issue is between you and bat but I think you both make some good points all over the place. I've got a $5 that says if you had the chance to really talk in private you'd find some mutual ground or at least to agree to disagree like gentlemen.

hahaha... on one of them I wished you had.... I think you got me pulling up and took something off... (I didn't bother to look), lost control and started spinning in, read a book, got a beer, watched some tv, and FINALLY hit the ground.
PS for new guys... in that situation it is my OPINION that you ride it in and don't bail. Give the man his kill and don't worry about your 'score'. The ONLY time I bail now is if I'm getting repeatedly HO'd by someone and they finally get lucky or if I'm WAY up high chasing bombers and don't want to wait 15 minutes to get back to the tower.
-
hey seriously hub, killnU brought up a point and i thought it was a good one, so im a tool for speakin off topic? dicho aint mad at me for using his thread space i dnt think.
sorry to any pansies that i might have offended.

Why? So his squaddies can take turns shooting at your spiraling hulk in an attempt to steal the kill?

He gets the kill if you bail or not -- don't understand your point.
"enter enter enter . e f " gets you in the tower and back in the fight quicker than riding it down. Nothing to do with score.
-
not at all Bat...
Public board and discussions are supposed to be fluent.
I REALLY want to get back up tonight but I'm waiting for a business call that's very important. So here I sit posting my drivel.
Laz, Slap, Hubs, etc..., someone pm me next time yall are getting together so I can come play against ya will you?
Again.. last night was a BLAST!!!!!

no I don't want someone to steal a kill... but, from what I understand, it affects my 'score' and some people see it as being more concerned about my score than the game, therefore I don't bail normally unless the circumstance calls for it like in BOB.
-
bailing out is grreat fun dicho you should try it, the higher the better.
hit enter three times, then 'O' to open chute.
hitting 'O' is of course optional and mildly discouraged. :t
guy gets his kill unstolen, and you get to free fall to the tower.

ahh so it doesn't affect anybodys score? If that's the case then I'm jumping when I'm a smoking wreck from now on :)
-
bailing out and free falling 8k in about 30 seconds is a wild ride, especially if theres a furball around you. it doesnt hurt much as you hit the deck at terminal velocity, just a faint cracking of bones and a quick blow to the head.

ya that's what caused me to marry the life sucking blonde...
thank my lucky stars I ditched her and got the She Devil ;)
-
Am I sensing a lover's quarrel? I certainly hope you two get make up soon.

Bat and Killnu's only "point" was to try to turn Lazs' depiction of being killed in a furball to cherrypicking, in the hopes of starting some sort of retarded pursefight. Nice try.
Dicho, there's normally a few of us (read that, "Slapshot, Edbert, xDak, and the rest of the old guys") on between 8 and 11PM DST/EST. Lazs has to go to bed early on school nights, but I normally let him fly for a bit after supper. The rest of us don't sneak on till after 11, when the wives, kids, inflatable significant others, and ewes are in bed. ;)
-
bat... what is your handle in the game? I don't recall fighting you. If I shot you off of another plane then I bet I did it from less than 2K and about half the speed whatever plane I was in would go.. If there weren't any of your guys around then.... you were simply the last. If there were... they either couldn't hit me or couldn't see me.
Point is... a cherry picker takes no risks... he never gets low and slow unless there is no other planes in the area and he has a fast enough plane that he can run from his opponent any time he wants. I don't consider anyone who is low and slow in a furball a cherry picker no matter what plane he decides to target.
It is also a pretty good thing to have your squaddie tell you he is taking someone up to give you a good full plane shot at the guy. I certainly don't mind when other furballers shoot red guys off my six.
dich... it is rare to see even three BK's on at once. mostly... you only seen two that night. even then... we get in each others way because we tend to go after the same planes and consider it high comedy to steal the kill from each other.

As good a reason as any....share the fun! Plus, if they collide or auger trying to steal, yuo get even more giggles...

I'm with you...I usually bail and ef if I have any alt at all. Shoot, I always take the stairs because I cant stand waiting for the elevator, not because I want the exercise!
If I'm hurting badly near my base, I WILL go for the ditch -- if you wanted to kill me, you should have finished the job! I might ride a ditchable plane into the trees as a salute for a good fight, but otherwise....
THere are, however, some who grasp at the point advantage they gain by bailing. If hats the motive, well, not for me.

oh come off it boyo, are you rally so sensitive that an opposing opinion always has to be considered 'bait'.
not everyone who disagrees with someone else here is doing it simply to start 'beef'. get a life.

actually I was asking a question. I gave what I thought a definition of a pick was and asked my question. I have always viewed a furball as a giant pickfest, because my definition of a pick was, shooting at somebody that was already engaged with someone. Sure flying in them makes you work on SA, so you dont get picked{by my defintion}. I see others POV now, thanks for input.
Now that you have the truth about what I asked, you can quit assuming stuff.:aok

I'll be looking for yall tonight :aok
anyway... like I originally said. Good fun and it's an extra bit of fun for me to see someone I've talked to on the boards either flying with me or against me.
-
I used to pick cherries before I got too old. I still like them on a banana splits... :D
Really the only thing that bothers me in the GAME is a person who warps real bad, gets a kill, then thinks he is a leet pilot :rofl
Run what ya brung..... but most of all have fun.
PS I'll be on tonight, yall can all cherry pick me all you want... there's plenty of my big ol' 38 to go around, I'm told the cowlings are most tasty :aok

I don't think that going for a plane allready engaged is a good defenition of a pick as it applies to a furball... everyone is engaged. I tend to take snap shots. cannon planes have the advantage as they do more damage and the mg planes have to stay on the con longer which makes em a target. that is how I am mostly killed... That does not mean I was picked... it also does not mean I didn't see the guy doing it... Often, I just think I can kill before getting killed or... simply misjudge the guy behind me's e state... no whining about a participant in a furball shooting me while I am engaged.
Another example of a non pick would be... friendly and con on the deck... con chasing and slowly catching friendly after a quarter sector chase. Me, with my huge alt advantage of 2 K above the deck can come in from the side and make up the 50-100 mph speed disadvantage my plane has to shoot the con off the friendly.... Now... all the con has to do is dissengage. I can't catch him if he does. I am easy to spot. If he dies he deserves it. Not a pick. Oftern they will even take some evasive move but continue on the con. slowing enough that even I can catch em.
If you get defensive and angry and embarassed at every cherry picker thread.... you may be one
