The season offically kicks off in about 42 minutes with the Buffalo Sabres playing the Canes. This season should be even beter then the last. Because I will most likely develope grudges almost immediatly I will say good luck to all teams now.

EDIT: Doh! Read the time wrong. Missed first 5 minutes of game.

Some one not lazy like me should start an AH NHL fantasy league, like the one at yahoo.

Hockey! One more reason I do not watch the "Outdoor Life Network".
-
ooops 1-0 Colorado, Turco starting where he left off.
whups 2-0
-
Un fracking believable, opening night and Colorado doesn't get the damn game? Maybe I should have ordered that special hockey thing from my cable provider so I could watch 20 hockey games a dya. The season has started out rough, dunno if i'll be a very dedicated viewer or not.

The games are on OLN. I turn the game on and mute it so I can listen to Rick Generette on the radio. He has to be one of the best announcers in history.
-
They have free live webcasts of some games:

Great game tonight! Buffalo wins 5-4 decided by another shootout. Came back from two 2 goal deficiets and Afiniganov scored in the last 16 seconds to tie the game. Even with the refs.
Senators tomorrow night. Good luck to the Senators. A respected rival.
-
Thanks for the heads up, espn.com said it was unlisted then the team website said VERSUS whatever that means.
Anyway, 2 games in a row now both ending with overtime losses.:(
-
VERSUS is the new name for the OLN channel, or whatever it was called last year.
I'm going to have to get an up to date nitro prescription if this keeps up.
-
Leafs > Sens 6-0... oh snap
-
yesss dev's spank the canes 4-0, brodeur ties at #3 in wins at 447 and 5th in shutouts at 81
-
My expectations of the Sens are much more modest this year. If they couldn't win the cup with the team they had last year...

I think the Sens should have won last year with that team. They just seemed not to be able to get it together.

Sabres beat Ottawa 4-3 in regular time. Neither team seemed to show up tonight besides the goalies.
-
Go !Sens Go.

I guess from the looks of the Blues / Kings game, StL is gonna consider this another "rebuilding" year.
I'm starting to feel like a Cubs fan. Well, almost. Not quite THAT depressed. :)
-
Kings home opener was a blast. City of LA got something right with the Staples Center & metro, I can walk 1 block, hop the train and be at the fromt door in 15-25 min.
Keep an eye on a 6-4 200lb 19 year old LA Kings forward Anze Kopitar; dude is a phenom. 5 points in his first 2 NHL games isn't a mistake, the kid is quick like bunny.
-
Well, the Penguins look completely different... Yeah, they lost 2-0 to Detroit last night, but won 4-0 vs. Philly on opening day... Great penalty kills, great goaltending...
I'm not going to say they'll challenge for a playoff spot yet... But I'd bet they could spoil some other teams' bids.
Can't wait for Malkin to get healthy :D
-
BlueJ1, can you send me that graphic you used in your post or a location where you got it?
Email can be gotten thru my profile.

Thanks a bunch.

WOOOOO! 1-0-2!!!
-
Buffalo Sabres are now 5-0. Only the 2nd time in their history of doing so. :aok
-
How are the Mightyducks doing so far?
-
The Ducks are in 6th place in the league. With 3 wins and 0 losses.
-
And the Hawks?
-
Hawks: 2-2 18th in the League.
-
That should make Mr. Estevez happy.
-
Sabres beat the flyers 9-1. :aok

Any team that comes to CA and plays the Ducks then Sharks is going to have a hell of a time surviving that back to back. Notice how Detriot just got rolled?

Sabres win 5-4 in regular time. It was the best game I have ever gone to. It was so loud I couldnt hear myself think.
Buffalo Sabres are now 7-0

I'm not surprised Jay...If they had had decent referrying last season they would have been in the finals.
I think this is a better team than when they had the French Connection!
-
Sabres beat Boston 6-2. With this win the team has tied the franchise record of 8-0. I felt sorry that Boston had to play the Sabres. Not much of a competition even when the team was playing sloppy all night.
-
Sabres beat the Canadians 4-1. New franchise record of 9-0 now.
-
Booyaka!
-
Well, they certainly aren't 9-0, but the Penguins have managed to win 4 games in October so far... I'm ecstatic!
Also, watching Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin out there on the same line has certain flashes of Lemieux and Jagr... Considering Crosby is 19 in his 2nd season, Malkin's 20 in his first... Well, enjoy your team's success, everyone else... Because in 4-5 years my team's going to be something else :aok
Not to mention Fleury, Jordan Staal, Colby Armstrong, Michelle Ouellet, Ryan Whitney, etc...
They're televized nationally on Versus tonight at 7pm EST if no one has had a chance to see this young team yet... Of course they're playing the Devils so I don't know how exciting a game it'll be... Brodeur just got blanketed the other night and tends to be in top form rebounding from those sorta games.
Anyway, you're guaranteed to see some flashes of brilliance, even if the puck ends up in Brodeur's glove.
-
Stars are 8-1!
:aok
-
Well hell froze over tonight... The Penguins are in first place in their division :O
Did you guys get a load of Malkin's goal!? Amazing.
This has been such a fun year so far :D
-
Here's a clip of the goal Malkin got tonight... Once again, Amazing.

Talk about going to the net...

I watched that game last night. I like watching hockey games where I dont have much of a preference over either team. You see the good and bad in both teams.
-
Sabres beat the Islanders 3-0. Win number 10. I have 100 lvl tickets for the record breaking game saturday. :aok
-
Blue they playin great, they don't look anything like the team on opening night in the first two periods.

Last night was ugly for the Sabres. If they were playing like they know they can the score would have been insane. Miller saved us last night.
The amazing thing is that all the Sabres fans are treating every game as if it was the playoffs or the Stanley Cup itself. Each game is the highlight of everyday. It also helps that the Sabres have outscored the Bills early into the Sabres season.
-
Well, the Sabres lost last night 5-4 to the Thrashers in a shootout. Atlanta was playing very well. The Sabres simply lost.
The crowd stayed standing and cheering well after their last goal. And after the team lost in the shootout the crowd stood silent for a few seconds then burst out into applause and cheering for our team that made their opening to the season 10-0. The Sabres grouped up at their bench then skated to center ice and the team raised their sticks to the fans in salute. Either way 10-0 still ties the all time best. Not to mention it is a new record for the new NHL.
On another note Crosby had a great night. His first hat trick I hear.

Mmmm hmmm! And Malkin scored again as well. Five goals in five games. Not exactly an easy thing for a rookie to do :)
The Penguins absolutely trashed the Flyers, at Philadelphia... It was somewhat strange because I felt the Flyers were running circles around the Pens for most of the 1st period... In the 2nd though, the Pens just exploded.
After a season like last year's, and bad luck for years before that, I'm hesitant to say a corner has been turned... I almost expect everything to come crashing down soon... But it's still October, and still ok to dream ;)
I'll say if they keep playing like they have this month, they'll make the playoffs, or, at the very least, make a very strong push for them.
-
I agree. By the looks of it the new NHl's start is allowing the underdogs to ake the lead that the more dominant teams have held for the history of the the league.
-
Heads up for anyone wanting to watch a game with alot of goals tonight. The Sabres play Phili in their arena. :aok
