Title: Unbiased Chess Beyond Staunton?

Although I like staunton chess sets for elegance and playability, I'm also looking for a middle ages set with more realistic traditional king/queen/bishop/knight/rook/pawn pieces that are totally different for each side, but generic enough to avoid bias toward either side (e.g., NOT Christian/Muslim or England/France but simply different monarchies).  

Prefer 1 3/4- to 3 3/4-inch kings on 1- to 2-inch squares, wood or woodlike figures, weighted and felted.

Any recommendations?

Oh oh, I've done it at last -- started the most uninteresting thread in the history of Aces High.  

Okay, okay, chess piece design is not sexy.  
     Well, actually, it is.  

Okay, okay, most people don't play chess.  
      Well, I bet that in Aces High, most do.

North Korea set off a nuke.  
       Just another temporary distraction.

The title was too clumsy.  
       Yeah, that's it.  Not a grabber word anywhere.

ive been looking for a roll up board so i can play at the local pub on sunday afternoons.

not too up to speed on the sets themselves...so nothing to add other than a confirmation that yes...others here play chess.
