Title: Il2
Post by: 68slayr on October 09, 2006, 09:45:22 AM
Is the Il2 a bit overmodeled in armour in the game?  I know they were the "flying tanks" .

heres some examples:
1. i was flying my 152.  I see a Il2 and i merge with him.  Its a VERY short flight and i get on his 6.  I shoot at him and he keeps flying.  In the film i hit him with 5-6 30mm and 10-12ish rounds of 20mm.

2. I'm in an ostie and Il2 attacks head on to my ostie.  I hit him 6 times and he continues to fly like nothings wrong.  He comes back around i hit him 4 times and he dies.  But should it take 9-10 rounds of 37mm to kill it?

3 I'm in a pnzr and a Il2s nearby.  He comes to strafe me and at -200 yds i hit him with a 75mm AP.  He ends up with a fuel leak.

Would this be what happened in the war?

Odd.

Most I ever had an Il-2 take and remain controlable was two rounds of 37mm from an Osti.

Sounds like either a connection problem or that you have your V-Sync set to off.

The reason is that in all my time flying the Il2 it's only taken a max of two 37mm hits from an osty to kill me in one. I reguraly kill Il2's in a 110c but w/o the 30mm cannon it can take quite a few 20mm.

I haven't hit a plane w/ the panzer's cannon in a long time but I do remember that when I did the AP round against a bomber the round didn't do much visual damage, but the HE round was insta death for any plane it hit in the air or came close to on the ground.

Hope this helps, if you have your V-Sync already set to ON and a ping plot when you are having this type of issue doesn't show any problems then....nevermind.

2 38mm is my max too from an osty, plus I've hit a C47 with an HE round from a Pnz and it didnt flinch.

Strangest for me to understand is hitting LVTs with whatever the shore batterys spit out...18 inch are they? and they just ricochet off.

8 inch I believe.

You don't want to know what an 18 inch would do to a heavy cruiser.

There were accounts of cannon and mg fire bouncing off the plane.

Never seen 18s, but our resident ship, BB63 (USS Missouri) has 3 triple 16s, and ive seen what those can do!

I have hit IL-2's with a 37mm from an M8 (HE round). One shot always has done mortal damage for me.

Now in an osite, usually takes 3 shots on average
