Title: A Tornado by my house
Post by: 1epic1 on October 10, 2006, 05:56:43 PM
I got home from school and i got on the computer to check out whats new and blah blah blah...ok a bad storm was being reported to hit Houston with Hail and minor strong winds, so my practice was cancled and im stuck at home...around 3:30 i hear what i thought to be a plane but the noise didnt go away and it just got louder and louder...next thing i know my house started vibrating and i admit i was getting kinda scared, i go outside and i see the base of the tornado maybe a half-mile away, not a big tornado but one non-the less and it was moving sorta towards me and to the left...after about 4 or 5 minutes after it started it was gone, nobody i have heard yet is hurt..

Had one nearly hit my house 3 years ago. Did some minor damage to the house, but it carried my well house (8 x 10 steel frame building) 185 yards off it's foundation.

Raider you're exactly right  because an F-1 tornado wouldn't kill anyone and is perfectly safe.

technically it is if your a bathroom or interior room of your home if you are outside find a low ditch

but anything above a F3 and your just basically screwed unless you try to outrun it in your car

Oh well I'll tell that to anyone who's lost a family member to a small harmless tornado.

Do you even know, without research, the first thing about the Fujita scale?  F1 tornadoes are roughly between 75-115 mph winds .

I don't even know why I put forth the effort sometimes.  Nothing has ever proven to be worth it when you open your mouth.

Id be more worried about being impaled then the tornado.

yes I do know what the fugita scale is and how it works it is rare that someone might die in a F1

RAIDER14,
Do you know your posts are barely understandable? Ever hear of a comma? A period? An upper case letter at the beginning of a sentence?
By the way, girls like good grammar.
Probably still wouldn't make much sense but at least they would be readable.

So they teach 'teen style' in school opposed to the 'Dallas/Texas school system' method of grammar?
Only you set the limits of what you learn.

And by the way, what happens when you turn 20?

I grew up in Altus OK and would see at least a dozen every year. I watched a large one hit Altus AFB in the early 80's from the back porch with my Dad. Tore that base apart. Picked up a C-5, spun it 180 degrees, moved it 200 yards north on the flight line, and rammed it into anouther parked C-5. Leveled 3 barracks, the Commisary and Exchange were destroyed, and it tore the roof off the largest hanger on the base. We had hail the size of grapefruits. It was pretty wild watching that one.

Oh NO! It just happened!!!!

I THINK I just reached the point of thinking "these young whipper snappers are going to ruin the world when they grow up" and I don't know what to do!

Do I need to change my hairstyle?  Buy a Buick?  Head to the mall and get a new wardrobe?  Are Sansabelt pants in my near future?  Should I start yelling at people to "Get off my lawn!”?

SOMEBODY HELP ME!  I'm turning into a curmudgeon!  What do I do?

(edit: if I have to start tying my ties so they fall mid-chest I am going to freak out)

Well Lute....invest in the future's of fine young men such as BlueJ, he's a young man that knows how to type correctly!  If that fails it's time to construct a porch with a nice awning on it.  Go buy a nice comfortable rocking chair to put out there so those damn kids will stay off your lawn!  Because kids gotta learn.

PEOPLE OF TEXAS

We are not all illiterate, unmannered, poorly educated, morons!!!

Do NOT feed into the idea that when someone from the North hears a Texas twang it's okay to automatically deduct 60 IQ points.

That would depend on how fast the tornado is moving.  As well as how fast your car can go given how open your path is.

Depends on the Tornado - I outran one in a sailboat once. Admitedly, I could probably have sailed right through it with minimal damage, but this was in the Largs Channel, Scotland  - a part of the world where the only tornadoes normally seen are the F.3 or GR.1 varieties debonair was talking about.

Ok, how about we plant you in the path of a "harmless F1" and watch you get smacked with a 2x4.

You sir should really STOP giving advice about the Fujita Scale, because any fool KNOWS ANY tornado has the ability to kill any animal, including the "perfectly harmless F1".

The Fujita Scale is based on DAMAGE, nothing else.  From 1950-1994, 4% of Deaths were at the hands of "harmless F0-F1" tornaders.   Here's what a "harmless F1 can do".    I all but memorized this scale as a kid.

F1
Moderate tornado
73-112 mph

The lower limit is the beginning of hurricane wind speed; peels surface off roofs; mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned; moving autos pushed off the roads; attached garages may be destroyed.

My God how do you wake up in the morning and decide to spew so much drivel?!!
