my autopilot wont stay engaged. it works for 2-10 sec. then there's a small shudder in the plane and auto disengages. it used to work fine, this problem apeared after installing a new USB dsl modem.  any ideas on a fix?

Do you have a USB joystick as well?  While USB is great for connecting control devices, it's not going to share that bus well with some types of USB connections.

USB network devices are evil.  The networking companies love to sell them, because they are so easy to install.  The downside is that the USB bus was never designed for that kind of use, and if you have other USB devices it will cause problems.  USB also uses a lot of CPU power to move data around, so any high-bandwidth connection over USB will cost you a lot of CPU speed to stay connected.

You need to talk to your DSL provider about getting an Ethernet DSL device and PCI network card.  Your provider may offer that as an option if you ask for it.  It's your best shot.
