Being attacked, no. But my uncle did tell me a story of his platoon finding a charred tiger after a napalm run in the I Corp. (He was in the 5th Marines in 68')

i think tigers were the last thing on there minds with asian cobras, king cobras, coral snakes, kraits, and numerous vipers and pit vipers stalking you.

i woulda thought the small and nimble creatures with automatic rifles would have been a concern at some point also.

A mate leant me a book years ago called 'RECCONDO. LRRPs of the 101st Airborne.' by Larry Chambers. ISBN 0-8041-0843-9
There is a bit in that where they run into what they presumed was a tiger one night in the bush. (they didn't see it, just heard it and the screams of their scout as he was killed by it)
On the same patrol, their radioman was struck by lightning.
One hell of a walk in the bush, one that I bet none of the participants will ever forget.
I was reading another book at the same time, about roughly the same thing (long range recon patrols in Vietnam) and it may have been in that, not reccondo, unfortunately I cannot remember the title or author of the second book.

What's the problem, G.I. Joe always kicked Cobra's ass.

I've read 2 accounts about tigers in Vietnam from the same book.
Maverick: The Personal War of a Vietnam Cobra Pilot (http://www.bookfinder4u.com/detail/0515106623.html)
In one instance, the "blues" (air cav infantry) had set a typical horseshoe ambush for the night. A pair of Tigers showed up sniffing around their positions. They were too terrified to even shoot them.
Another instance popped up with a Tiger snatching kids from the local village. They took the village chief up in a Huey to go look for it, and eventually flushed it out. The chief freaked out, jumping up & down in the cargo bay (he was really short). They ended up popping it with a grenade launcher, and the crew were later given the claws on a necklace by the villagers.

I have a friend that was a LRRP, G co Ranger. He told me a story about a patrol they were on where the point man had slipped down a hill, next thing they know the guy empties his m16. When they get down to him it turns out that he landed face to face with a tiger. The best part is that he didn't hit a damn thing, they found no tiger, no blood trail, nothing.

I used to know a guy at work (since retired) that was a maintenance dog in the USAF staioned in the Nam during the great police action. He loved to tell the story about going to some zoo (Saigon?) and when leaned up against the Tiger cage for a photo op the damned cat grabed him and tore his jacket off. He always maintained that the cat nearly got him then he would laugh, haha.....
