Today we've had snow, sunshine, hail, freezing rain, and everything else in between. I live 30 seconds from lake Erie and took these pictures when I got home from work. I saw a few water spouts, you can see the makings of a few in the picutures. The winds are amazing. The wind is blowing the snow and hail across the curface of the lake and then up the cliff Im standing on. The quality is alittle low being that I was freezing my balls off and the hail was hitting me in the face. I'll take more later.
This picture was taken atop a 40ft cliff that runs up to the edge of the lake.

This picute has a very large wave in the background. Maybe a mile out from shore. My hands were to cold to take more of it. Had to be close to 15 feet.

Yes, I know this is a small fart of a storm compared to hurricanes or what you'd see on the ocean or on some of the other Great Lakes. But still cool.

can water spouts/tornados form when its that cold? Was there a big warm front just before it?

It was in the 60's yesterday. Low 30's today. Yes a small warm front for this time of year.

Perfect time to go sailing!

I've got some fond (and not so fond) memories of that lake and probably not to far from the spot you took those pictures at. Used to be an old rickity iron stairway that went from the cliff top down to a big concrete block on the bottom. When the lake would start to ice up we would take tree limbs and bust out a couple mini bergs from the shore line. Float around on those whacking at each others berg until somebody lost and fell in. Sounds kinda stupid now but 30 yeras ago it was fun ..and cold.
