Title: Goodnight Mr. Bosco
Post by: cav58d on October 12, 2006, 10:54:48 PM
Today has been one of the most difficult day's I have faced...One of my best friends was suddenly taken away from me and family...Mr.Bosco...He was 1 /3/4 year old shar pei...He was born on December 7th (pearl harbor), 2004, and passed away early this evening, October 12, 2006...He has always been energetic and playful and hell, and when I woke up this morning to find him covered in thick vomet I knew something was wrong...I stayed and observed him all afternoon and his conditions worsened, and took him to the emergency vet around 5 this evening...an hour into the hospital he suffered three massive heart attacks and was unable to be revieved....the vets susect pnemonia, but it doesnt make sense because he has never showed any symptom...up until this morning he was your average, medium sized playful dog...we are having an autopsy tomorrow to figure out what happened...

for whatever its worth i felt like posting this with u guys...

thanks for listening

rip bosco

This is a shot from the dock of my cabin where him and I would sit for hours...I'd read, he would swim, run, and just do what dogs do...

A very difficult thing to endure; they are the best type of friend.

Tough luck, Cav; wish I knew something to say that would help but I've been through it 4 times now and I know there's nothing that helps but time.

Quite a few of us have pets. The lucky ones of us have furkids or family that happens to resemble a pet.

Sorry you lost a part of your family Cav. :(

check to see that he wasnt intentionally poisoned by a rabbid neighbor or  that he didnt get into some anti freeze liquid.  Healthy young dogs dont typically "just get sick and die".  Find out what happened.

My condolances to you.

Abolutely. It's particularly valuable if you breed your pets. You need to know if you have problems that can be passed on to the next generation.

Sorry for your loss cav.
Poison was my first thought when you said he was covered in vomit. Like Yeager said young healthy dogs don't just up and die.

Thank you for your thoughtful replys guys...It really does mean a lot...As hard as it is for me, realistically its going to be the hardest on his 2 month older sister lou lou...She sat on one of the windows last night starring out, without sleeping, waiting for him to come home...unfortunately thats not going to happen...

I just got back from Tufts University in Mass where we left his body for the autopsy...At first glance, they have no idea what happened, and they are as puzzled as anyone could be...Why does such a young and extremely healthy dog just die within thee hours?...I am hoping to hear back results within two weeks...

thanks again for the support guys, its a rough time but its life...

you rememember, you miss, and you have to let go

condolences, Cav.  They're like family, aren't they...

I really hope this isn't the case, but did anyone give Mr. Bosco greenies?  The symptoms sound similar.  Here's one account:   http://quikonnex.com/channel/item/15795  You can find a lot of similar story's by googling "greenie deaths"

Sorry Cav. We have a couple of Shi-tzu's. Female just had puppies and already I am not looking forward to them leaving. Hard to believe how attached one can become to thier pets.

Best wishes Sir.

Sorry about your loss

Did your dog ingest something?  I'm sure they'll run all kinds of toxicology but that's real young for a 1.75 year old dog to be fine one day, gone the next.

I was aware of the "greenie" product and never had it in the house...That said, Bosco was a chewer, and very well may have ingested something else.  Tufts said it may take as much as two weeks for an answer because the oddness of this death, but thinking about it now, he very well may have chewed on something that broke off and didnt disolve.... ugh

They get into everything

My Australian CattleDog got into some stuff...I came home frmo lunch one day and noticed a chewed up box of Sudafed and those foil packages on the floor.  The cat got up on the counter, played with the box and it hit the floor.  From there the dog got it.  I noticed the dog was acting a bit lethargic and called the vet.  She had be feed the dog something (cant recall now) that got her to throw up.  Amongst the vomit was 4 or 5 pills that hadnt disolved (some still sealed up).  Got it just in time.

I volunteered at the local humane society for a few years.  It can be heartwrenching...the things you see.  I've seen a lot of cases where the dog or cat get into some chemicals, lick up stuff on the driveway from what the car leaked, etc...

My condolences to you.  Pets are awesome at giving 100% love 24/7...and we get used to it.  When they are gone, that's a huge void that takes time to mend.

Losing a dog sucks... no more eloquent way to say it.

One of the best dogs I ever had was a Shar-pei/Golden lab mix. He looked like a pit bull sorta and acted like a lab.
