Title: Map I am working on "The HighLands"
Post by: Clifra Jones on October 15, 2006, 12:57:05 PM
256 mile map. Created the elevation bitmap in PaintShop Pro and then used TileSet.exe to set the tiles.

Each country would own a continent and the islands would start out with mixed field ownership. I.E. ownership of the islands is the reason for the conflict.

I was targeting this for the EW with close airfields.

One issue I have is that my coastlines are rather steep.

Very nice use of the tileset.exe program, if you set it up correctly I can see this being used as an MA terrain.

awsome looking map..... I hope to see it in the MA.

But there is something i would request...................... ....................

TT spawns to the island in 10.10 if this would be used as a Mid War terrain.:D

great map:aok

Looks good.

My recommendations....

Switch the north country HQ with the factory group to equalize threats from the other 2 countries.

Make sure CVs can navigate all of the narrow passages. Especially in 5-13, 6-13.

Check airfield altitudes and make sure they are at 6k max per HT in your other thread.

Move or put something in sector 12-7.

Look at sector 7-5 area. It's a long ride to that southern base.

Scatter your factories throughout the terrain. Unless you are intentionally creating a bomber's paradise. :)

Before you start placing bases, actually fly the terrain. I can't tell from the map, but it appears that it may have large bands of flat areas or just be a uphill gradient. If you don't like the way it looks, change it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will look at all of them.

Unless I can get my CH stick to work with the TE the only way I can fly the map is to place some bases and fly it offline.

The terrain is basically stepped. It's not flat on each step. I pland on doing some modifications once I can fly around and look at how it looks.

6k is maximum base altitude not maximum terrain altitude.

Yes, HT commented in another post in General Forum regarding this map. 6K it will be.

I noticed that there are pretty empty areas at 12,7 and at 12,13,+ ...almost like 1 base missing at both areas??
Title: Redesigned map with screen shots
Post by: Clifra Jones on October 28, 2006, 08:44:39 PM
I redesigned the map and redid the elevation map. I still have not put the bases in as I was not satisfied with the terrain yet. I put 3 bases in so I could fly the map.

I think this will do.

I reduced the size of each continent a but and seperated them some.

There are no deep canyons or steep unnatural mountains. The goal here was to produce a northern glaciated terrain.
(real rock & snow tiles would be nice. hint, hint HTC)

Central mountain ranges max out at aroud 15K

I can make you a clipboard map if you want. I'm not quite as good as Dux but look at my SCMAS post. Id tone down on the snow tiles tho only put them on highest points of elv.

It actually look more loke rock than snow.

I will do more tweeking once I get the bases in so it doesn't take so long to fly around. Joystick doesn't work in TE.

A crisp clear clipboard map is very important. The one you did for SCMAS is very nice and Dux, as always, makes excellent clipboard maps.

SC ... are you still going forward with your SCMAS map ?

Actually, its enough if you place one Vbase (you can put it in water tile, that way you dont need to worry about elevations).

Then use the CM Eye Mode (http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=181991) (offline) to fly around your terrain.

And thats one great looking terrain there Clifra. Thanks for your effort! >S<

the bases look to close together (dbl ck with Htc ) i think they have a min distance for a MA map

the other thing is all the strat objects are grouped too close .. they should be scattered across each home isle  and they have a resupply timing factor i believe ( train /convoy lines have to be so long )

id sugest you submit the base/map layout to Skuzzy 1st if your intent is a MA map.

Looks pritty good though
