Doesn't have to be right away, just whenever they can.

How do they know to give you an update when they can? They have no power!

Way to take something sincere and just act like heartless idiots! :aok

Ok Laser, like this:

Hopefully the find this one.

Wow, a 6.3 is nothing to joke about. I wonder if there's danger of a tsunami as well?

no tsunami danger...............the wave would have already hit most likely if there was a tsunami threat
-
Can aftershocks cause a tsunami?
-
I think I heard that some parts of the main island have power restored already

Parts of the Big island got hit pretty hard, they had to evacuate Kona hospital and a couple of roads had issues with big holes appearing in them. Maui's eastern coastline was pretty much cut off (Hana area especially) by rockslides. Other than that it was mostly just power outages. The quake kicked off generators on every island and shut down the power grids. Some places in downtown Honolulu and Waikiki took nearly 24 hours to restore power. I've been on duty and on call for the last 36 hours, and there are still services downtown that are out. I'm heading for bed. As far as I know there were no fatalities.
-
Some way off center nutcases are claiming the earthquake was a result of a NK underwater nuclear test off the coast of Hawaii :rofl
-
Good to hear that there were no known fatalities and good to hear from you SOA. Enjoy your rest.
-
Good to hear your ok SOA, worried about a few of ya over there.
Good thing the power came on also, or you'd never have seen this.

I was in earshot of a radio that had Rush talking about his usual nonsense and was going on and on about how NK was the cause of the earthquake. Needless to say i about peed myself laughing. :rofl

i think te aftershoks were caused by all the coconuts that fell in te initial quake.
it must have been like being in a hailstorm, but with hail the size of & as hard as, coconuts
:O :O :O

Biggest earth trembling I've felt since I fell in love a long time ago.
The epicenter was 150 miles away.
You could hear a rumbling roar. My wood frame house actually creaked and groaned. Some stuff fell off the shelf.
Power was out for 19 hours. I hope all those steaks in the freezer are still good.
I almost ran out of beer!
regards, TEShaw

This was actually good in several ways. Mainly because the damage was very light for what was really a pretty good sized quake. Revised estimates put it at a 6.7 now. No fatalities and very few injuries. I never realized Honolulu Intl. Airport has no backup power system. Just a few emergency generators. All the X-Ray machines and other security equipment was down, which meant ALL luggage had to be searched by hand. Not to mention the walk-through metal detectors being out. United just quit trying and closed all flights until Monday morning. Several places found that their "emergency" equipment was either not functional or wasnt up to the test of several hours without power. Grocery stores and warehouses that hadn't invested in generators are throwing out millions of dollars worth of food. ESDA announcements werent ready to be distributed until an hour after the quake knocked out power, and tourists in Waikiki had been scrambling for higher ground after being told (wrongly) that there was a possibility of tsunamis. There was no coordinated effort on the part of the electric company to restore vital services first, and no one still yet understands why it took so long to restore power to areas where there was no damage to equipment. Alot of very angry people are asking uncomfortable questions, and as far as I'm concerned thats a good thing. Maybe next time somebody will actually know what to do.
-
Just blame the Democrats!!
:D
-
Restoring power is always tricky. There is no way to know what is damaged, what might still be running and can cause harm if it just Pops back on. Slow, frustrating process, but a safe one.
Speaking from experience, wife lost her Dad by power coming back on when it wasn't supposed to, worked for a power company.

has anyone claimed HNL as a "coconut city" yet? rofl

My dad flys Pacific routes for Northwest, and he was en-route to Honolulu when it happened. They were able to land ok around 10:00AM, but had to park the 747-400 on the ramp because the jetways had no electricity. He said the airport personnel had to drive the stair carts all over the place to get people off the airplanes, and they had to wait for about 2 hours just to deboard.
He also said that the customs security checkpoints were a madhouse because they didnt have the scanners operating, etc. Since they were crew members, they caught a break and fortunately didn't have to go through that mess.
There was no power in the entire city, so he said just trying to find someplace to eat was near impossible. He finally found a place that was able to heat up raamen noodles and sell for $7 bucks.
When it got dark, the hotel handed out glow sticks to people so they could see where they were going in the halls etc. Crazy stuff!

Reynolds (Serenity in the game) lives in Pearl City. I just shipped him a slighty used X45 setup, because his went belly up. I'm sure they'll have power restored long before it arrives next week.
My regards,
