B. Announcement of new funding or equipment?
C. Announcement of exciting new Amway opportunities?
or
D. Jody Foster's dad?
Major SETI Institute Announcement
10:00 - 11:00 am PDT
Date: Tuesday, October 17, 2006
Location: SETI Institute, 515 N. Whisman Road, Mountain View, CA, US
Web Site Address: http://www.seti.org
-
ET phone home?
-
Elvis has been spotted.
-
I have a sense of foreboding about this... and I don't mean contact
-
Maybe they are closing it down. Perhaps they have finally figured out that religion is the way to go and that searching for life outside earth is pointless.

wow, a treble hook!
-
That's a big one too:eek:
Think I'll go find a corner to hide IN
-
Don't think they find any, but yet...maybe?
There are some distances to deal with you see, so if we'd finally find signals, the civilization that sent them is probably dead, or way ahead....

Not if they live on Mars.
-
Mars = too cold, and notably, - too light.
Same to the moon
Venus...too hot.
Earth....too wobbly most of the time to support intelligent life. Hasn't been on the radio technologi or Seti level for any time at all, and is on a good road to taking itself down the drain if nature doesn't beat it to it...
We're always speaking very long distances for the calculated chance, - something like thousands of years away....

For us yes. What if the aliens feed on cold and UV radiation? They would thrive. Maybe they live 100km below the surface.
Aliens could under the ice on Europa.

Aliens could thrive on Uranus Neilson?
-
Maybe its to inform us that a new intergalactic super highway will be comming thru our system and earth is schedualed for distruction.:noid
-
There is no intelligent life in the universe. If there were, how would we even recognize it? ;)
-

And if that is not enough...
Yep, I think we are covered. :D
Seriously, my guess would be SETI lost its funding.
-
Those pics looks photoshopped Skuzzy.
-
Are you suggesting I did not go to the Moon and hammer that sign into the soil myself!?!?
Or catch up to a satellite and tie that sign to the back of it?!?!
That's it! You are off my Christmas card list. NO FRUIT CAKE FOR YOU! :)
-
Like Nilsen said, it is probably an announcement for program termination. Less likely is an announcement that former Air Amercia stations will join the SETI network to form a linked antenna array.
-
No, I dont think you did that Skuzzy. As I said i think you photoshopped it and im standing firm on that. If you want to x me off your list thats fine. You are not going to troll me into blowing my top just so you can get a kick out of it.
Have a nice day, I aint talking to you anymore.

I think I know what it is. They are renaming it STI and are aiming all their antennas towards Seattle. :p
-
Just a nit, but you are not talking, you are typing, and you cannot type something without it being seen by everyone. Soooo, in order to stop typing to me, you have to stop typing to all.
Hmmmm. Quite the conundrum, dunt ya think? :D
Oh, and you are the first person I've stumbled into who would not be happy about not getting a fruit cake for Christmas. :)
-
Can someone please PM me about what Skuzzy is talking about? He is on my ignore list, but i suspect he is yapping about his fruitcakes. He has sent me to plenty of "fruity" sites before. I think he is hinting about something or other.
:D

-
Hehe, why do you think we give em away? I aint touching a fruit cake with a ten foot pole.
You know if you freeze em Nilsen, they make excellent boat anchors. Uh, I am assuming you know what a boat anchor is. :D
-
seems to me that sending signals to aliens is akin to little fuzzy bunnies making a lot of noise when wolves are around.
lazs
-
crap i hope the years of using seti@home werent toattlay wasted!!!:furious
if they loose funding what will i do for a screensaver??:O
i was really hoping it would be MY pc that actually found the signal and i could have a private meeting with jody foster to discuss her future involvment with seti and...ummm oh wait that was a movie:huh
I really need to get out more:noid
-
They're gonna say that you can run SETI@home on your Playstation3 when you're not playing it. :p

Thats a Big rock you stop the boat on top of?;)
-
I have a feeling I know what the announcement is....
Pursuant to the current administration's needs and desires, SETI will permanently be shifting their focus away from extra-terrestrial intelligence and will now shoulder the burden of finding the exact location of Jesus's spaceship.
Any other prophets discovered during this search will be targeted for 'liberation'.

Martians landed on Oct 30th, 1938 in Grovers Mill NJ
not a 20 minute drive from my house!
They even have a monument to commemorate it.
Ive seen it in person
(http://mywebpages.comcast.net/wmandecki/kamykzielony/martians1.jpg) SEE!!
Along with the remains of the watertower residents shot to watermelon that night (for real) which I cant find a picture of right now
-
I may be wrong(shocker), but I thought congress cut the funding off for SETI back in the 80s? Isnt it now being funded privately ?
IF they do decide to shut down all together however that would make my little "Planetary Society --Certificate of Appreciation" a collectors item ? lol
maybe they will be announcing a shift ffrom looking for radio frequency transmissions to light based transmissions.. like laaaazer beaammmms!!!! seriously tho we utilize fibre optics why the heck would ET be using something so archaic as over the air radio transmision?
(we probably got an email from Alpha Centauri that said "if we get one more frieakin AOL CD in the mail we will vaporize all of you noobs!"))
:noid

SETI is a waste of money , time and resources. Maybe they'll convert some of thier labs into TGIF's and Coyote Uglys.

Why the buggery would you travel millions of miles only to land in New Jersey?
-
The search for extra terrestrial intelligence is a waste of funds.
They should try and find some intelligence down here first.
-
SETI has received a signal from the alien equivalent called STFU. Seems they are pissed that we have been flooding their clean galaxy with noxious RF pollution. They want us to cut RF emissions by 5% annually. Seems RF pollution is causing some sort of intergalatical warming.
-
Just get Oprah to stfu and that 5% is already done :D

It's on the spaceref media calendar:
http://www.spaceref.com/calendar/calendar.html?pid=4200&signal=negatory
The notice has caused quite a bit of speculation, so the spaceref editor came back and updated it to say "It's NOT aliens, noobs".
-
Lmao .. great update text on the seti site Chairboi :rofl

SETI Institute Announces New Astrobiology Center - The Carl Sagan Center for the Study of Life in the Universe (http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewpr.html?pid=21070)
-
Well at least it shouldnt need to much funding.
Wonder who the schmuck was that got sold into donating to this.
-
The Sagan Center was conceived by Scott Hubbard
that raised an eyebrow here... is he related to ron by any chance?:huh

See Rule #3
(no reason in particular, just felt like being Skuzzy for a day)
