Title: Flags of our Fathers, coming soon!
Post by: Angus on July 14, 2006, 10:04:25 AM
As far as I know, Flags is supposed to come out in August, with the trailer in the later half of July.
Eagerly waiting and surfing the net, I am in awe of Clint Eastwood's accurate workmanship and selection of actors and crew.
Here's one of the flagraisers, Rene Gagnon:

And then the actor (this photo is not from Flags), - Jesse Bradford:

Spookily well chosen I'd say ;)(http://www.imdb.com/gallery/granitz/3354/Events/3354/JesseBradf_Grani_5503565_400.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Bradford,%20Jesse)

Can't wait to see it.

The pacific deserves more of the spotlight, it was a far more interesting war then Europe in my opinion.

Yep.... A really great and interesting book on the pacific war is "touched with fire" by Eric Bergerud.

Also... do not miss "fire in the sky" by the same author.

Storch will probly hate it tho cause Eric is a BK.

Did you get to shoot a real one? The M1 is simply a fantastic Rifle.

Shot the M1 Garand under camera in foreground action. The thing jammed after some 2 rounds or so. Camera was rolling, LOL, and I was frantically reloading,  or rather bulllet out, clean and in again (sand problem as often on IWO, and the Garand is not the best for it). Couldn't get it to work, but as it was, I was trying to get it working as if I was saving my life, which would have been the real deal. (I was prone on flat ground with no cover, so nowhere to run)
Anyway, it didn't really kick as I expected, and I couldn't hear it at all, - no wonder with machineguns and explosions all around.

LOL, I'll be lucky if I spot myself there and if the closeups weren't cut.
I did have some 3+ closeups, hehe, one with Ryan Philippe. Then there were hidden cameras all over the place, and we didn't know.
But they film hundreds of hours for some 3 you see, so there is a lot of cutting.
But, if I spot myself, I'll let ya know ;)

Again :rofl :rofl :rofl

There was this day when I had too big undergarments (it was cold you see, so we got this stuff from the US navy)
Anyway, I had mine fastened with pins, or rather safety needles.
So, during shooting they fell of, and I had a heck of a time in breaks trying to pin them up again.
Hilarious today, but at the time not so funny...long johns making their way downward to your trousers, lol :rofl

Im prolly gonna go Friday afternoon to see this movie...I read the book two years ago, and I was enthralled when I heard about the movie!  You heard correct!  The movie is called "Letters from Iwo Jima"- The story of the battle of Iwo Jima between the United States and Imperial Japan during World War II, as told from the perspective of the Japanese who fought it.

Taking my 10 year old son to it. He's a WW2 fanatic (gee, wonder where he got that from...) and he's seen Saving Private Ryan, so blood and gore aside, he'll get a look inside the historical side (albeit hollyweird version) of Iwo Jima.

Hehe, they did a lot of it here. I was in it :D
Even found a scene I was in on the trailer. Guys diving into a trench under heavy fire, one rolls over his head into the trench. That is either me or the guy in front, - we shot this 3 or 4 times if I recall right. I saw this done, so I copied it in the scene.
I'm drooling for that film, I tell ya ;)

I have a feeling that this movie will be as good as (or better) 1998 Saving Ryan

A friend of mine (same "platoon") was looking over Eastwood's shoulders when he was viewing some part of the combat scenes that had been put together from the footage. (It's both film and electonic I belive). He said it was absolutely awesome awesome and ,,,, AWESOME.
