Hi Guys,
Do any of you play Close Combat 5 (http://www.closecombatseries.net/CCS/index.php) or any of the mods for that game? For instance:
Stalingrad
Winter War 'Karelia Isthmus'
Red Storm Rising
Battle of Berlin
Band of Brothers
A Bridge Too Far
Okinawa
SAS
Star Wars
etc.
I'm looking for a campaign and willing to play any of the Mods.

Not to familar with Close Combat, But If youre interested in World War 2 RTS, Id buy Battlefronts Combat Mission. Nothing beats its historical accuracies, and overall number of units. Best of all, Its 3D, and you don't need a supercomputer to run it.
-
I used to play Close C 3 alot before and i belive i still have the copy. can you mod that too?
-
Haven't played Combat Mission in awhile but it certainly is fun. The graphics are a little bulky but it is 3d and very accurate.
-
Hi Nefarious,
I did buy and try Combat Mission and Combat Mission 2. My problem with them was the move based system - that and the fact that I never did get any good at either of them. Personally, I've always prefered real time games when it comes to the PC so CC with its top down view and real time action always appealed to me. Plus not being a grognard, the interface was simple enough for even an idiot like me to understand.

Yes, there are tons of CC3 mods, just check out the link I posted and set up an account (registering is free) to access the CC3 downloads section. However, I think several of the CC5 mods (which was the best of the CC series) like Okinawa are free standing.
The DEMO for 5 is available there and here:
http://www.gamershell.com/download_5216.shtml
Since its been discontinued, you pick copies of the game up for about $5.

thx.. i registered a few mins ago but still no mail. guess it takes a while
dl demo now.
-
I haven't played the CC series in a while but I would have to dig them out of one of the boxes from the last two moves. Unfortunately I have no idea where to start looking.
-
I still play Close Combat A bridge too far sometimes.
-
Seagoon,
I'd love to initiate fierce combat with ya, (Nothing else sounded right :ROFL )
But I don't have the game.
I'll look into getting it.
Downloading Valley of Tears right now, and searching E-bay for Close Combat.
-
Not playing that one.
But if any of you play Joint Operations from Novalogic, there's an excellent mod from International Conflict (http://www.internationalconflict.com/) ....lots of new weapons, etc...

Youre not trying hard enough.
Play by Email, and TCIP games are extremely fun especially with timed turns. It does take time to be successful. But it all boils down to basics.
When you say Combat Mission 2, are you referring to the Euro Release or did you buy it from a store?
I play these and I bought them direct from Battlefront.
CM:Beyond Overlord
CM:Barbarossa to Berlin
CM:Afrika Korps
If you have the same version(s) (patched up with official patches) I would be willing to help you out in a PBEM game, and get the addiction started :)
Always looking for opponents here in the AH Community, there is a few people here I've played and lost miserably too :)

Seagoon, I'd be happy to play you in a few games of Close Combat with you... But you'll have to give me about 2 weeks or so as Midterms are fast approaching :)
I don't have any of the extra scenarios/campaigns... I'd be down for a regular box version one, or if you have links and suggestions for another...
PM me before next weekend and we'll see what we can come up with. Things should be less crazy then :aok

I'm just downloading "Valley of Tears" now myself, haven't played any Arab/Israeli conflicts in a quite while. Contact me via email (ajwebb@providencepca.com) or PM when you are up for a game or a campaign...
I'll at least find out if Zonealarm makes this game impossible as well...

Sounds good. I have a new baby coming in a matter of days or hours so I probably won't be able to devote that much time to games until after your midterms anyway.
The best source for CC5 mods is this site - http://www.closecombatseries.net/CCS/index.php
They also have a couple of stand-alones.
Be sure to download the configuration manager from the "tools" section first, this will allow you to seamlessly change which plug-in you are using. Downloading new mods is fairly easy, but if you need any help with it, send me an email or a PM.

where i can get/buy CC5?
-
Ive got an extra cd of CC5 lying around collecting dust. But I think its a german version.
I play it occasionally, my favorite thing to do is let the Amis have half the map then get them from 3 directions with MG42s then counter attack, and drive them all the way off the map.

Hey! Congrats :)
-
Seagoon,
I'll look for a CC5 and see what comes up..
The Valley Of Tears is interesting, but lacks much cover of terrain....
-
Ok, CC5 is on it's way, orderd it from e-bay.
There is one map in the Valley of Tears thats interesting to play.
I just don't like all the modern equipment.
And Prefer the Inf. Vs. Inf., A shilka f's everything up, and makes me go deaf..
