Title: This looks cool '300'
Post by: Major Biggles on October 19, 2006, 04:41:46 PM
Another film based on frank miller's graphic novels (sin city), called 300, based on the story of the 300 spartans at the battle of thermopylae, where the 300 spartans, along with 700 allied troops, made a suicidal last stand to hold the pass of thermopylae from the 2,000,000 strong army of persian king xerxes. they lasted 3 days and killed well in excess of 20,000 of the persians, fighting to the last man.

the movie is the first to be entirely filmed infront of a greenscreen, and it looks absolutely incredible. it mixes the history of the battle with a mild fantasy aspect, and that dark mood that sin city captured so well.

looks bloody briliant, comes out march next year, i cant wait, it looks like it could be another smash hit out of the dark...

Yup.  Hollywierd will try to sneak in such claims from time to time.  Just like they claimed Father of the pride (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0361179/) was the first all computer generated TV series.  When in fact Reboot (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0108903/)  was, and the company that made Reboot also had a second series (can't remember the name) before FoTP came out.

Previous all blue/green screen films; Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004), Immortel (2004), Casshern (2004), and Sin City (2005).

I hope they do a heck of a lot better job than they did on sin city. Of course it would be very very difficult to do worse.

i quite liked sin city.

to each his own though i guess. i never read the comics or anything, so i have nothing to compare it to, but it was a film that i actually enjoyed watching all the way through

I never read the comics about it either. As a matter of fact I didn't know there was a comic about it. I was just less than impressed with the film. I got the DVD and less than 30 minutes into it I was looking for a newspaper to read. I sat all the way to the end hoping it would get better but I wouldn't pay a quarter to see it again if I was bored senseless.

Really? I gotta agree with Biggles here. I liked Sin City, but I like good animation.

I read a soft cover novel in high school about the 300 spartans.  It blew me away.  Flash forward I don't know how many years, I saw the trailer, and seems to take quite a  license on what I read and envisioned.

I will have to see this, but you know how it is, after you've read the book...

Frikkin trailer won't play.

I hope this is good, but Michael Mann needs to hurry up and make Steven Pressfield's Gates of Fire into a film.  But you know Michael Mann, he just kinda does whatever.  Grrr.

:furious

Mega, you probably still watch Pokemon.  That means you have zero credibility when it comes to being a film critic.

However, you do have good sense when it comes to sports teams.
