Title: Something Fishy
Post by: roach on October 22, 2006, 02:38:10 AM
Every time I engaged the enemy this morning, for example, during a dogfight, a request from another player to 'join' my aircraft pops up obstructing my view.  Last time, the name was 'explodje' and the player seems to log off immediately after sending the request.  I simply push the window off my screen rather than clicking decline, so that it prevents further interruptions during a critical combat engagement.  Each of the several times the request occurred was during the initial engagement of combat.  I think it is an intentional way that an opponent is exploiting the game to interfere with my flying as to cause me to lose a combat encounter.  What do those of you that are experienced at this game think?  Are my suspicions valid?

How would some one flying against you always know its you? Im not even sure the join message works if you are flying on differant sides.

type .showjoin 0 in your text buffer. This disables the seldom welcome popup window ( a popular trick in my squad). While I doubt anyone would go to the trouble of dual accounts simply to annoy you, setting the game up to display join requests in text only makes the point moot.

Dot commands are your friend. :)

Well I presume that if it was intentional, someone is using a second client to join the same side I am on, and from there use the feature.  This is possible if that individual has two computers, perhaps each on a different IP address.  I mean, player1 might be barrowing the account of a friend and using this tactic.  I don’t know if this is the case, but I am pointing out a possibility.  I used to play a game called "Medal of Honor, Allied Assault" and there were people that used a second computer next to them to join the opposing side and follow players to find them.  However, they had no way of actually interfering with members of the opposing team.  We considered it an unfair tactic and tried to prevent it from happening to us.

I am just saying that it seems suspicious that each time this happened to me this morning; it was right at the start of a critical engagement with the opposing side.  I could sit in the tower for 15 minutes, and receive no requests, but as soon as I entered an aircraft and engaged the enemy, the popup presented itself.

I’m not accusing anyone, I am just very suspicious and therefore asking for input from experienced players.

Is there a way for me to block all requests from people who want to 'join' my aircraft?

Oh hey THANK YOU very much.  I was still typing while you posted the dot command, so you basically answered the question in the last sentence of my last post prior to this one.

I appreciate the tip!  I will use it!
Title: Stop them

Maybe this may stop it.

1st:
If you squelch someone can they still send you a "join"?

If the above is true, after they do it the first time, squelch them.

Also let HTC know, take "SS"s of their name, Im sure HTC will eject them if they do it again, they dont like us to be bothered when we are making them money,,, eeerrrrr  I mean  flying.

Does this showjoin command work always, or does it need to be entered every time you join a server?

I think hub has you covered. I would doubt that it was intentional at all. Before you could disable the pop it sure seemed like it popped up as soon as you had a shot. I doubt many remember getting  of join messages at a convienent time.:D

Don't know about the others, but this particular person is a bona fide new player.

He tried to join me while I was in the tower -- in the AvA, no less.

Just someone trying to figure out what's going on.  Just FYI.

AFAIK the .showjoin setting is arena specific (ie you have to change it in each arena seperatly) - but it keeps after relog.

I will have to go in the game and find it, but there is a setting (somewhere) that defaults join requests to your text buffer.  If you check around on your clipboard, I am sure you too can find it as easily as I.  But, if I find it first I will post it in here.
