Title: Did the DB605AM and ASM need C3 fuel??

Hi,

on different places i did read that the DB605AM and ASM need C3 fuel??

Is that true??

Couldnt find a related theatre with the search option.

no an AS(M) engined Bf 109 did not require C3 fuel - B4 + MW-50...

C3 + MW-50 was tested/used on the DB605D but it wasn't 'required' for this engine either.

Initially, planes equipped with MW 50  could only run on C3 fuel. In late 44, a TAGTT was issued allowing also B4 fuel.

Yep, the planes initially set up for the MW50 seem to allways have a C3 triangle.

what is "late in 1944"??

I only ask cause the rumor about the C3 shortage.

Origianly they required C3+MW-50 but later on the restriction was relaxed and B4+MW-50 could be used. When running on B4 the engine was succeptible to break in case MW-50 was to run out.
