Is this a safe service that you could recomend? Ive had an account there for a while but im thinking about verifying it. I dont like giving away my visa details unless its 100%.
Anyone?

My only experience with paypal is on ebay where I have made purchases with paypal....Never had any type of problem

Its safe enough. I dont care for some of their policys but it doesnt stop me from using their service.

In the early days it was sketchy - but over the last 4-5 years they have been tip top.

Nils,
Just watch out for whom you use paypal with. Whenever there is any kind of "dispute" from either party alot of times they will freeze your account. No money in, no money out. I knew a guy that made a living selling on Ebay and some punk messed with him and paypal shut him down for about 6 weeks. If you arent using cash you have nothing to worry about. Other than that I've never had a problem with paypal.

PayPal once double charged my bank account for a $395 purchase, and refused to credit the overcharge back in a reasonable amount of time (they wanted to keep the extra money they took for two weeks!). It cost me near $300 in fees when about ten small checks bounced because I had $20 in the account instead of $400. I had to get my bank to file a dispute with Visa (I had a Visa debit card account) to make PayPal give me my money back and then get my fees back. The people at PayPal were rude, arrogant, and obnoxious, and refused to even make an effort to make it right. I had to use my bank and Visa to FORCE them. The "lady" at PayPal told me it was my fault, I shouldn't have made a $400 purchase if I didn't have another $400 to back it up, and the overdraft fees and all were my problem not hers or PayPal's. Her supervisor backed her up and so did his supervisor. All they ever did was continually raise their voice and repeat themselves over and over, getting louder each time, then accuse me of being rude and hang up. NEVER again. Screw 'em.

Never had a problem with Paypal and they pay me right around 5% on my cash sitting in the account.

Open a second checking account, strictly dedicated to the paypal account. Transfer Only the money that you intend to use for a particular sale. Don't let it linger, don't let it sit around.
This will avoid any conflicts if you are overcharged or disputed, it will only affect that account and will prevent drawing excessive funds out of your primary account accidently.

Or, go buy a money order and mail it. About $.50 for the money order, $.02
for the paper and evelope, and $.37 for the stamp. No need for another bank account, extra charges or liability, and no chance for PayPal to rip you off. All for under $1.
Seriously, why would I want to deal with ANYONE I so distrusted that I had to open a special bank account for dealing with them, so they couldn't screw me out of more money than I spent or was being paid? Hell, they don't even offer real protection if someone uses them to rip you off. At least the Post Office can and will prosecute mail fraud. PayPal will just tell you it's your fault and you're screwed. Do me once, shame on you, do me twice, shame on me.
Oh, by the way, it WAS a special account I had for "hobby' use, so I could track my spending. I had to close it because even after Visa and the bank showed PayPal they were wrong and ripped me off, PayPal continually tried to take more money, even after I closed my PayPal account. And yes, it was PayPal and not a hacker.

Thats a great idea ROC!
I never would have thought to do something like that. When i first used paypal i had it set up to a visa card with a real low limit, for safety. Then they said, in order to keep using it, i'd have to enter my bank info online, and i haven't used it since.
:aok
Could you sue Paypal, Cap?
-
I've only had cause to dispute one transaction done through PayPal, and they handled it fine. Granted it did take time, but I got every penny back from the dispute and they never gave me any problems.
-
disputes take about a month - ebay/paypal anyways and they ave always settled in my favor
I recommend paypal. I have been a member of ebay since 96 and have used paypal since its existance

Actually had nothing to do with using someone I distrusted. I trust them perfectly. I also have several businesses, political campaigns, family accounts, vacation accounts, emergency accounts all with the single reason of making sure One mistake doesn't crash Everything I do.
The fact of the matter is I believe you 100% that Paypal screwed up. The main reason I believe it is because People are staffing Paypal, and they Screw Up. I simply try to hedge my bets Knowing a mistake can and most likely will happen, and put some protections in place.
I never said I had an independant account because I Distrusted them.

thats what we have too .. a account just for paypal only ... as a buyer paypal works good ... as a seller you have to be more cautious and protect yourself against charge backs . (use the received receipt thingy when you ship stuff)
ive never been ripped on ebay when using paypal ...but i have been ripped when using check/MO .

I verified, and regretted it.
They now have no problem dipping into my account without consulting me first to collect money. I prefer to stay in control.
