fractured the squads.
created hoards at any base thats close to NME base,
ENY took favorites planes away.
the maps are a kick in the face....i used to look forward to seeing what map might be up when i logged in.
IE:
my squad is now divided....half in one arena and half in another. we actually enjoy flying together and even if we're scattered about the map the commraderey was always a nice part of the game. soemone might have a funny story about what happened that day at work and you have 8 or 9 guys sitting at thier desks in all parts of the world laughing together. we have already lost several members just because the game is no longer enticing. cruising ebay has more appeal...never know what you might find.
there are no places to fight with 3 on 3...it's nothing but hoards at any base thats close to an NME base. i'm not even going to elaborate on this one.
the ENY is a farse...it does not stop the hoards, it does not create a balance. it just takes away your favote ride. i rather up my favorite ride from a base further back than not have it at all...lets say something along lines that there are anly a certain number of planes at any given field as opposed to.." no little johny...God took all the P51's away". even AW got that one right...if too many people upped from a field you had to up from a different field...and this was nice because it moved the action around the map,,,although you need a map to move around in. and if you were intent on still going to that NME base it broke up the hoards.
the maps are sickening. with the large maps at least you could go and stir an NME field and get a small confrontation. you could go and find a nice little gv war some where. you could change things up and get your squad together and find something else to do on the map. now we have been given one new map that i will not describe here what i think of it....i'd say it's along the lines that i used have an awsome garage with lots of tools that i could make things, fix things and use all my nice tools. now i have 6x6 shed with no heat and it's so jammed up with half my nice tools that you couldn't even use a screwdriver. oh and the other half of my nice tools are under a tarp rusting.
i took the summer off from the game and was looking forward to having a renewed vigor towards the game and i feel nothing but frustration and the game is no longer fun.
i'm checking out other venues. i don't even want to log in anymore. what WAS an awsome game when i came over from AW has not only stagnated it has regressed to exactly what AW was.
oh look...a good show is on TV. now thats interesting....gotta log...see ya!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been here 5 years and I think this is THE biggest bonehead move the guys in grapevine have ever pulled.
I fly this game to hang out with my squaddies, could care less about a lot of things since our squad has been together in 2 other games before this one. I am sure when the next one is written that replaces this one after its demise, we will be there too.
I have been flying online combat games since RedBaron1 and AW (Both DOS based games) from 1992 until now. I am amazed that the creators of this game would rid it of the most cohesive bond it had going for it. Break up the reason for staying in the game and people lose interest rapidly. The lone wolf types (those who cannot comprehend teamwork) you know who they are, the cherrypickers, furballers, et al... They could care less about the dissolution of the community because they were never part of it.
I see no point in these changes, if you want to make a furballers arena and a GV arena, I would understand that... Thats what we have now in the EW and MW arenas! I dont believe the guys in Grapevine realize what a STRENGTH the larger MA was.
For me, I would rather play a game that is as good as or even perhaps a bit inferior to this one to fly with my friends as we have been together over 8 years now and we have watched the games come and go... What's next?
Edit: As an add-on... those who are marching in lockstep on these changes and joining in on the chorus of flaming those who do voice a differing opinion are part of the problem here. I say that these people are voicing an opinion in writing BEFORE they voice it with their wallets. If hitech lost 20% (perhaps more) of current customers there would always be someone waiting to take them right in. No matter how good a product is, there comes a point that other considerations will take precedence. No-one should ever be so arrogant as to believe there is no-one out there who could step up to the plate and fill in the gap you leave open.

Here's a hot tip.
Send out an email to all your squad mates.
We will fly for the next week in the Mid War Arena.
Poof, problem solved, everyones in one arena, no problem getting in, and a good mix of planes to choose from. Just be prepared to switch country's to help balance sides.
Ohh you might want to be aware also that Gangbanging, HO's, are not looked upon very nicely in the early/mid war arenas. Just an FYI.

Reacher, I have to agree with you. I have read and posted about this and the conclusion was (from Hitech) that AH is suffering from lack of pier
pressure (IE people becoming more aggressive towards each other because pier pressure looses its control in an overpopulated arena, where
a smaller population tends to get along better). Ok, I can understand that conclusion and it makes sense but my problem is with the solution that
was devised to overcome the problem. By solving the aggression, pier pressure issues you have created several more and the trade off just isn’t
worth it, to me anyway. This one solution destroys my reasons for being here in the first place. Squads, eny values, maps, exciting game play,
buddy contacts, large missions, multiple head-to-head action, busy arenas, and everything my squad enjoyed. Yeah, I know, some bleeding heart is
going to post here crying about how they get shot down all the time, and I just can’t take it anymore and how this new setup has enriched their
experience and blah blah blah. To be honest about it, I just don’t care. Go find another game that better fits your reasons for gaming on line. I mean,
I see you posting in here but it’s very hard to find you in numbers that would amount to anything in the arenas and I have been asking everyone
through the country text. IMHO I believe there is another solution that would achieve the same resolve that Hitech wants to accomplish. It’s got
to be tuff to have to make a decision like this and spend the next several weeks defending your position. My hats off to the AH guys. I truly believe
you are looking for a better way for everyone. I think you would achieve the same goal by creating a buddy list that would only allow individuals to
speak with people on their list. Limit it to 200 and you have your controlled environment. Do away with channel 200 and lets move on to the AH game
we have all come to let control our ever waking obviously meager lives. (just kidding guys) Any concept along these lines would be better suited
among the population and we don’t loose the most valuable aspects of your original creation. Keep the other arenas for individual taste and game
play but don’t take our MTV. Can’t you see how it’s destroying the very fabric of humanity? Well, maybe not that bad but it still sucks. Last night I
spent two hours in the DA with the only squad mate I could find out of boredom. Tonight is going to be real interesting as it is squad night for us
and NO, we don’t want to go to an unpopulated arena and fly other planes with our squad being 80% of the arena population. Where’s the fun in
that. Their has got to be a better solution. :furious
-
this is one of those deals where if your unhappy with the game then you need to change up the way you think about it and play it, cause the game aint gonna change back for you. Either that or go someplace else "where the grass is always greener" (but never really is).
Good luck
-
Yeager, I guess my assessment of the guys at AH differs from yours. I think they do listen to us and I think they are still open minded enough to lend
an ear. Rather I stay or leave won't change this game ten cents worth but I think my opinion is as important as everyone else’s. No ONE person is
going to change anything here and I am pretty sure that my post isn't isolated in its views and if you ask Hitech I think you will find that some of
their decisions are made from customer response and not the silent minority. Isn't that the point of having an Aces High Discussion Forum? I
care enough about the game to give it my two cents worth. Just my opinion, doesn’t make me right, just involved.
-
My .02-
My entire squad likes the new options available. Never cared if I couldn't up a plane due to ENY, though the time I couldn't up an M16 was a bit much. I won't change countries just to even sides and get better planes. I don't stay bish to outnumber everyone, just stay that because that is what I came in as.
I like the new setup. It works, it shows an attempt at improved gameplay. I'm not too concerned about the pier pressure, because the boats are too limited anyway. ;) As to this:
Edit: As an add-on... those who are marching in lockstep on these changes and joining in on the chorus of flaming those who do voice a differing opinion are part of the problem here.
sounds like exactly what it is attempting to argue against.
Have fun, and if you can't, changes to this game are certainly not going to help.
-
Gotta say I still don't like the changes. There are just not enough players on to give the diversity that the old MA used to offer. To me it's that simple.
I really liked the huge bomber missions, never see those anymore.
I have tried to just fly Air to Air, flying the Zero in LW, it's fun for awhile, but without purpose, it gets old after a bit...
Splitting the LW arena is just messed up. 30-40 guys on a side = no fun as far as I am concerned. Of course I am not a "pure furballer" and enjoy doing it all. GVs, bombers, gunning, etc.
I still don't understand why we don't have 1 arena where all planes are available with no cap. Let us the players choose how/where we fly. HTC forcing these lower cap arena's onto us is destroying the game for a lot of people for a lot of different reasons. I just flew 1 sortie and logged out. Boring as hell in the off hours...

elif ive played for 6 years, had to get a new pc after the fire...your not hurting my feelings, but you ARE casting seriouse doubts on your IQ...
PS heres a hint for the future, try not going around making remarks about people you dont know.:aok
actualy now that you mention it elif ive noticed that most new players are for the new changes...geez....im a newb? 6 yrs is a newb? ok bud see you around in the sky if we can ever get on the same arena...............

I admit ive only played 10 months on this game,
but in that short time ive bonded with my squaddies,
nd got a feel for all the regulars in my country,
and now i dont really look forward to logging on,
theres no real umph to the game anymore, its just jack jones dog fighting with the clouds most of the time,
i can see why people like the new system, its diverse, its new.
the novelty of fighting in group of 1 against 1 will wear off, like axis vs allies did, nd DA. why not just have one late war arena with 600 cap, so if people wanna fight in large wars they can, and people who like EWA and MWA can fly in MWA or EWA. surely thats the middle road option?>
the game is stagnant!!!!!!!!!!
just my 2 cents
:aok :furious :D

If 32 squaddies show up in the MW arena, the country numbers will be immediately unbalanced, and it will start another sad thread :lol

No need to swap sides, no ENY in MW or EW for that matter.
But..I'll make a prediction -
As soon as HT has sucked (suckered) enough people into the EW and MW arenas ENY will return.
Not welcome or not, your gonna get them, get used to it.
-
Yes and after we weed out the evil-doers and the disabled, and the etc... we will have a perfect society where everyone will get along, and the population count will be 1.
-
choice is good-more choice is "gooder"
wanna know whats wrong with the "old MA"?
one symptom of its "sickness" is apparent if you take a gander at the text buffer in the LW arenas .. it reads like the graffitti on a bathroom wall on the bad side of town.
some folks just don't wan't to be part of a "community" that has a maturity level equal to that of a 10 year old child.
-
If everyone would have taken then hint when the ENY limiter came out, and started balancing the sides then, we might not be having this problem now.
The current setup has its ups and downs, but over all.. I've had more fun since the change, then I did for a long time before it. At first I was against it because of the whole squad thing too, but then I realized how easy it is to type .f to find out where my squaddies were, and that you can still talk to squaddies if they are in different arenas.
Accept it, it's just the way it is...
-
ive played much less...getting kills at an increased rate tho...guess all the new guys coming in. I dont really care for new setup...dont really care for old MA...I just want to shoot red icons...the rest i just dont care about.

A couple experiences int he last two days.
1) I logged into an arena and I was the 8th person in the arena.
I was the only one on my side and there was another side with one person. The other 6 were on the remaining side. How could the 6 find any fun in that???
2) After a map change in an arenaone side grouped up and had a large attack on one of our bases. We tried to make a fight and defend the big group. Most of our people were on the other side of the map going after a lightly defended base.
I like the change to many MAs but we still have a hard core group of people that will not even things out.
It isn't HTC or the changes they made that frustrate me, it's the people who login and stay in the same rut.
AH has so many different things to offer and some just wont try anything else.
-
When you have to many people in 1 place pier presure no longer is a control on peoples behavior. Once pier pressure is no longer a control, people will start to exibit hostille behavior to each other, (in esence overcrowding).
What was happening in the old MA is the same thing we see in life, I'm law emforcement in a collage town, over the past 10 years the young people have become more hostille and nasty. I think we have seen this spill over into the game also. don't have the numbers but would guess that the age of the players in here the last couple of years has gone down 5-7 years. this would by it's self have a effect on the behavior in the game. I do not think that the changes will effect the hostille behavior in the long run. We can't even deal with the problem in real life.
To alot of people, pier prssure means nothing in the world of today .

I thought we covered all of this a few weeks ago.:t
-
About five months ago I came over here from F4AF after someone posted on the F4 forums about AH (word of mouth). We had just seen a major update and a lot of my squad there had problems machine related that was causing them to lose interest. The hosts for F4 became buggy for on thing and the last patch had a bug that killed network play for a while. Thats been fixed now. Im still a member of the IDFL and one of the finest squads in F4AF.
I stuck with AH because of the sick puppies who joined me up the first night I was on. I like it here and I started helping pups with combat tactics and angle concepts. Once a week or so we used to go into the training arena and sometimes we still do but the way the hosts are setup makes that tough at times. If you leave the host you might not get back in. Some of our guys like the EW and MW arenas. Most of us want to stay in the LW because the P51D is our squad plane. Some of our guys cuss the pony but stick to it because of what Ive shown them and because its a squad thing.
The small maps turn my stomach its a fact. Weve seen way too much of them. We still see hoards and we still have eny problems. I still pay the monthly dues just so I can kill la7s and hoers in their nikis and vulchers in their tempests and even the stick stirring 190s and you know who you are.
Im here because of the sick puppies and not because the game lights my fire. Im here because of the P51D and not the EW and MW arenas. Take them both away and Ill still have the IDFL and F4AF.

I don't think that's correct. Side balancing was not the issue. It was a side effect.
What everyone seems to be missing was what was said in Pyro's email regarding this change. In addressing the MA he said it was not a community, it had become a slum. What happens in a slum? The lowest forms of human behavior become the norm. Civility becomes almost non-existant, and the general attitude bacomes "what is best for me and mine" not one of "what is best for all of us"
One need only look at what was happening in there and to some extent still happens in the LW arenas. The deliberate griefing of people. The accusations of spying when someone did change countries, the general bad behavoir on 200, not to mention the goings on on this BBS.
I would wager a guess, though we don't have and (rightly so) never will have the numbers, that the ratio of 2 weekers to new subscribers was a factor in this decision.
Was it the perfect solution? no. Could we as a "community" have avoided this decision? Probably, I don't know.
It's here and it's not changing back the way it was. So, we have 3 choices.

pier pressure is the forces exerted on the "columns" holding up the "pier" at "coney" island by the tides in the ocean.:D
pier pressure can also be defined by the number of aging, overweight boozehounds who let go of their joysticks for a moment to shuffle their fat tulips to the end of the pier to see if anyone was catching sharks.thereby creating a stress factor that the original engineers of said pier could not have even imagined.
