Title: AC3D Read-me Clarification...
Post by: Dux on October 24, 2006, 10:24:13 PM
The first paragraph describes the hierarchy as follows:

World
...Group "Model"
......Group "Objects"
.........Group"STR0"
............Object "WHATEVER"   /* this can be a living shape */
............Object "WHATEVER2"   /* if there is a dead shape, it would be this object with the DEAD flag set */
.........Object "STR1"
.........Object "STR2"
         .
         .
         .

Yet the section on Types reads like this:

"...if you have 4 "STR" types and 2 "BRR" types, they would be named as follows:  STR1, STR2, STR3, STR4, BRR1, BRR2 and so on."

So does the numbering start at 0 or 1?

Also, how do you adhere to this hierarchy if the entire model is made up of one object... i.e., when there is only 1 thing, what do you group it to?

Not sure i understood what you meant there Dux, but with one object hierarchy should be the same:
world
   model
      objects
         str0
           "end object"

So a "group" is not really a group?

You are making this too complicated:lol

No.Group can consist of just one object. It has always worked for me.

This is where I'm coming from:

In AC3D, you need to select at least 2 objects in order for the Group function to enable, in order to make that hierarchy shown above. What BlauK had suggested to me was to make a copy of the one object, group them, then delete the extra object... and so on up the tree.

Makes sense to me, but it didn't work when I tried it. I wanted to hear the official word from HTC, but I guess there is no official word. :(

Thanks, duh.

It should work that way.

You could have also just created a single poly and after grouping with the object delete the poly.

... and the numbering starts at 0 or 1?

I appreciate all the help and guesses that people are giving... I really do... but I want to hear it from HTC.
