I've about had it with Norton, their buggy products and outsourced support. Is anybody else making a similar product these days?
Got really turned off when I found out Ghost confictled with my motherboard. The last straw was ccApp.exe conflicting with some other things that can't be removed. Of course the "outsourced" support reply was to remove the stuff you can't.
I'm not looking for freebieware as long as it gets the job done. Specifically I'm looking for a good antivirus, and tools to defrag drives, clean up registry errors, etc. I've already switched to Acronis to replace Ghost.
/rant off
Thanks

Fix it utilities from Vcom ... (trend micro av def's) has tons of tune up goodies , hardware testing ,plus Anti spyware ,and a good reg defrag /clean up program all built into one utility .
Ive been using for about 5 yrs now .. it not near the "Bloatware" as alot of the other AV's and doesnt interfer while playing AH .
I'm still using ver 6 ... but I'll get 7 when 6 runs out . (get the cd)

Im using AVG for some time now.

AV solution: NOD32 Used it, has worked well and has the lowest CPU overhead of any AV application
DEfrager: O&O Defrag. Used it for years, continuously defrag's in the background incrementally so yr drive never gets messed up.

NOD 32 works well for me too, it gets top marks for virus detection in most group tests. I set it up to only update itself each time the PC boots, so it doesn't interfere with AH. It detects the odd spam email virus but I'm careful what I download so its never found anything else.

Vote for Nod32 too. Aside from having a BSOD issue some time ago it's worked like a charm.

I ditched AVG and some of their files WILL NOT delete. I use Avast AV and Sygate Firewall.

Comodo firewall looks nice and works ok, although it has a weird parent application bug that pops up sometimes.

Rename the files then it will have no idea what its trying to do, cant protect itself and delete it. (used that to get rid of some sticky programs that wouldnt delete)
I use AVG Free and Adaware (yes i know it for spyware but still) and its caught 2 viruses on my sytem and deleted them. i also use windows defender beta in tandem with avg

I now use Avast and like it just fine.
In the past (over several years), I've used Norton and McAffee, but am of the opinion that they both suck in the performance department (either take a long time to boot the machine, a long time to launch Outlook, interfere with games, like AH, etc.).

Avast gets my vote; its FREE and easy to kill when gaming. On top of that it actually works.

Yep. I don't even bother to kill it when gaming these days. Its resource usage seems to be so low that it doesn't affect my play of AH, Battlefield 1942, or WWIIOL.
