August 28th I was stretchin a bit, and had a sneeze come outta nowhere.
Frik-kin doubled me over as I felt something tear just above my belly button .. and I walked a little more carefully the rest of the day, tryin to avoid bending over much.
Next day went in to see the Doc.. 'umbilical hernia' apparantly.
Consult with the surgeon about a month later, went in for the surgery the 23rd. They put a mesh in, initially using a local, but had to put me under after a bit due to problems containing the colon that was tryin to squeeze out every time I took a breath. I feel like a tank ran over my mid-section, and lotsa black an blue developing cause they hadda pull an stretch here an there.
I had forgotten what a '10' was on a painscale of 0-10, ten being the worst imaginable. That first trip to the mens room ..
Standing up is not a fast thing I do today.
Home now, can finally stand sittin in a chair, with follow up Nov 2nd.
Prolly gonna be off work for 4 weeks or so estimated.
Typing while on percocet is a challenge. Keep hittin the wrong keys ;)

Anytime they put you under it's major surgery IMHO. I had "minor" surgery about a year ago. I remember what a 10 is.
Don't rush your recovery.

After my brain surgery I recall being in the ICU. I complained of a headache (of course it hurt :) ) and the nurse asked me to rate my pain on a scale of 1 to 10. Hmmmm...based on my previous pain events, skinned knee, groin kick, kidney punch, various sports related bumps and bruises, I would have had to rate my pain some where around a 30. So I replied it was a ten, since it was at least the worst imaginable and I was not imagining it. :rofl
I hope yours soon reduces itself to a level more comfortable to you. Like there is a pain level that can be in ones comfort zone.

Any abdominal surgery hurts like hell because the muscle wall is so thick that movement after causes severe pain.
I had two surgeries last year for a sports hernia... the first didn't work because they used that mesh crap to try to patch up a severe muscle tear... yeah that worked. The second one I went to Philly to the guy who fixed up Donovan McNabb's and my gut is better than it has ever been. Both surgeries hurt like hell though, and just trying to take a piss after both was like trying to give birth lol...
There is no such thing as minor surgery. It frikkin hurts, take your time getting well, and keep dowing the pain pills.
