It's not done, but I've made some progress. It's impossible to get the panel lines in their proper places because of the way the skin is set up, so I didn't even try to make them accurate. Looking at the screenshots, though, I will make them darker (more visible).

You evil! You know why! :huh
But a promise is a promise. Your bottle of wine is ready for shipping
Nice job even if it is still a WIP :)
-
I'm 100% guessing as to the starboard side codes. I don't know if they'd switch places or if the yellow 22 would still be forward of the white 2.
-
Color seems too bright.
-
The entire thing's too bright right now. It's not weathered at all.
I'm not worried about the dark brown. I might reconsider the tan eventually, or make it a bit darker.
Like all skins that haven't been weathered/treated, it doesn't look "right" at the moment. Hold that thought, and let me know if you still think the same once you see pics of it in a more completed stage.
-
I used a different source for the colors this time. Which is better?

I'm not too keen on the second one, but I think maybe the first one's a bit too bright. I don't have any Italian color references, though, like I do with LW and US colors.
-
I like em krusty, was the real wing root that darn thick??
-
No, that's just how AH has it modeled. It's a first-generation model, low quality and low resolution, so it's blocky and predates this century.
-
I think once you apply your usual weathering, the second one will be the better looking of the two.
-
But normally isn't it supposed to be a sand/tan color with darker stripes? The second source I used came out a bit darker than I thought. Look at, for example, the default skin, the 109s and 110s with sandgelb color.
Dangit, I think I need more color sources for Italian paint.
-
I assume you know about this site and don't want to use these, but better safe than sorry.
Italian AC Colors (http://ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/stuff_eng_colorcharts_italy.htm)
And testor's online catalog has some info on page 54. http://www.testors.com or goto straight to it here. (http://www.testors.com/tes_cds/color_charts/505000_PScale%20ModHob%20Acryl.pdf)

Hrm.. I had direct links to German colors and US colors pages on the same website, but not the IT colors! Thanks! I'll try to get another screenshot up sometime tomorrow with those colors.
-
Krusty, what about posting those pics I sent you regarding Ferdinando D'Amico wonderful camos book? This way we can judge better. BTW it seems to me the first one is more similar to the one on the book.
-
Okay. I actually picked a representative sample from 2 different pages in order to make my color selection. Not the best way, but I didn't have the link Fencer just showed me :)

EDIT: Does anybody know the name of the green/brown on the herring bone pattern?
-
Krusty,
Try the second base color with the first green stripes..
-
done forget to make a c202 skin:D
-
Weazley, I was wondering about that, but I can't find any references to a 202 with this herringbone pattern. The 202s had the earlier paint schemes, I think. If you've got references for the 202, I'd love to see 'em.
-
New colors based on the links Fencer supplied:
[EDIT: The tan looks the same, but I think the shade of green is better now]

Very good Krusty :) Now what about some weathering? ;)
-
Tomorrow! :)
I've got lots of ideas

Krusty :aok
Regards,
hap
great skin work.

Some weathering. Sorry it's late, but the new 2.09 patch and new rudder pedals ate up my time :)
Cannon exhaust stains are misaligned on the top of the wing, I will fix this. Engine exhaust is a problem, because I can't put any on the top of the wing (it stretches horribly there). I think I'll just have it arch up exaggeratedly, and follow the curve of the wing root, if you can picture what I mean.
I had to push the panels lines, but I don't think I like them as-is. Because this was designed for a 256x256 texture (first generation skin) if I do standard panel lines you can barely see them. It scales them smaller than normal. So I have to make them more visible (darker). I'm working on a good balance, so bear with me.

Very good Krusty, hold on! ;) Lets hope HTC will revamp the 205 graphics ASAP.
-
If the macci (macchi?) planes had DTs I'd only fly them, ever.
-
Its looking good Krusty.
The fuselage panel lines seem a bit heavy compared to the wing ones. It looks the engine hatch lines are supposed to be heavier, but even the lighter lines on the fuselage are heavier than the wing ones if you see what I mean.
Looking at the C205 texture itself, the wing is much bigger than it should be relative to the fuselage. The game therefore shrinks the wing panel more and the panel lines fade more with it.
Best bet would be to duplicate all the panel line layers, erase the wing lines from one set and the fuselage ones from the other, then adjust opacity to suit.
-
Greebo: good eye. I noticed that myself. I was thinking about doing that, but it was more of a hassle than I wanted to tackle at the time I did those screenshots! :)
I want the panels to be noticable on the fuselage. The initial screenshots barely showed up. However I don't want them TOO thick on the wings. I guess I'll bite the bullet and do it the hard way, like you mention.
-
keep at it its looking awsome
-
Thanks for the feedback, fellas!
I think it's pretty much done here.
The wings literally have twice the resolution of the fuselage, becaus I doubled all panel lines (2 px wide) and when viewed on the plane, the wing panel lines are the exact width of the fuselage ones. This means the wings start looking funny at times, breaking the bitmap up a bit from any angle other than dead-on. That's why the panel lines might look like crap on the wings. Rest assured they look better on the bitmap, and there's nothing I can do about this rendering issue.

I think I'm done. I can't do a real spiral, but I did one like the 190's spiral (2 angled rings, when the spinner goes real fast it looks like a spiral).
-
Whoops! Forgot some stencils and stuff!!! Okay... so not quite done! lol! I need a few things on there, THEN done! :aok
-
Just 1 screenshot to show what it looks like with stencils. Small detail, but I think it adds something. There should be a red triangle behind the canopy on the side, but it stretches too much to get one there.

-
WOW! rly nice, wtfg!:aok
-
You don't think the arch of the engine exhaust is too exaggerated?
-
i think the arch looks perty good, you can see the air flow over the wing, if anything, i would...what's the word? lower, flatten? the exhast just a bit to make it seem a lil more...streamline. just a thought, if do if u don't it looks great either way:D
-
I can't let it touch the wing root. That's the problem. The wing root takes up half the height of the fuselage!
-
Oh, this one's from 2º Sq, 1º GrC, just so you know what to look for once it's accepted. Look for another thread soon about 3º Sq, 1º GrC, that one I'm really loving and will post pics soon. I am also planning a 1º Sq, 1º GrC (why not??) bird. One herring bone, one herring bone and grey mix, and one grey.
-
Great job Krusty, red or white wine? ;)
Really, its a beauty!
-
Tell ya what, shipping prices will be a biotch for you. :aok Just check out each of the 3 skins, let me know if you see any last minute problems, and so forth.
As a side note: I added yellow tips to the props. I was going to originally but forgot to look for the prop. I found it and added some tips on all 3 C205 skins.
EDIT: Do you have any 202 references? Anything that isn't smoke-ring?
-
You bet Krusty. Do you have an FTP or something where I can upload some 20-30Mbyte of 202's profile books?
-
LMAO!!
I actually COULD set you up with an FTP to do something like that....
But let's narrow it down a bit. How many different camo schemes are there for the 202? There's the tan/green smoke rings, and the negative of the same (gree/tan). What else is there? Greys? Herring bones?
-
Krusty, PM me your e-mail and I'll send a couple of pics.
-
done
-
one last Pic.
EDIT: Nvm its up top, lol looks nice. WTG! :aok
-
My "done" was in response to gatt, not really to say "this skin is done"
Okay, so let me take the time to say....
"This skin is done" :lol
Unless folks have any other suggestions and whatnot, I'll post a final screenshot in a little while (minor tweaks and such).
-
Some minor tweaks. I'm ready to submit this puppy, I think.
