Title: Nothing wrong with a goodbye post
Post by: FALCONWING on October 25, 2006, 08:56:26 PM
There is nothing wrong with a goodbye post.

before the latest debate guys posted goodbyes all the time without being told they were losers and "just leave"...

now if you post a final farewell...you get the same 4-5 guys jump on and hammer them....

i apologize to those guys who have posted here that the last thing they will remember about AH is what jerks are like....i hope it doesnt prevent them from coming back at a different stage of their lives or finances...

try this fellahs...if someone posts goodbye..then

..if you know them post something nice and wish they come back soon...

if you dont...then find another thread to post on...its not a troll...its some bloke who loves/loved this game as much as you and for what ever reason has lost some gas...mebbe a few nice posts will bring him back around

Nothing wrong with showing a comrade a little respect.

I been around here just a short while but my memory of these affairs is just a bit different than yours.

Guys that say "bye" in a gentlemanly fashion usually get the answer you suggest above.

The guys that feel they have to post an accusatory explanation of just why they are leaving because it's all the fault of HTC and the mean people in the game and the rainy weather and the internet burps, etc., etc., etc....

in short, those that leave crying....

do in fact get some "don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya" replies.

I guess, like everything else, it comes down to the choices the individual makes when he types in that "bye" message.

would you mind linking me to some of those goodbyes you remember?

i think a few did say the game had lost interest or the arena situaution was bad....dont know of any that named people who were "mean"?

im not so sure that posting a reason is anything but reasonable...and as i have already stated..i think we need to give guys a break who are probably very upset to begin with (either with the current game OR life issues that make them take this leave)

i cant teach anyone what their mom should have....

i wont try to do it individually for sure....

so best of luck to you toad...i hope you are the only one who decides to reply with negativity

Not that I'm implying that toad should get his head nailed.

The way I see it if someone posts a good bye post and it is in a manner that is how should I say it.... Not nice just don't post and let it die!!!!  If you don't respond it will be shoved down to page what ever and forgotten.  Isn't this better than the "Don't let the door hit ya in the A**" remarks?

Right.  The only acceptable goodbye is the one that coddles HiTech's nuts and makes him feel better about himself.

God forbid anyone express their frustration over the current arena setup and note it as a cause for their decision to leave the game.

On second thought, you guys are right.  I mean, just look at all the anger steaming from these recent goodbye threads, someone stop these madmen!

I'm not gonna go into it much, suffice it to say I think splitting the arenas was a bad idea. I loved the huge furballs, I wanted to see 1000+ people in one arena. Now it sounds like that vision will never be fulfilled.

Never the less, I wish HTC all the best and I hope to play TOD when it comes out in two weeks ;p

Besides, might be fun to try and reclaim the 7000 perks again.. =)

Hope you all take care, and shoot down hub a few hundered times for me...

These are the only offending posts I could find on the first few pages.  Interesting, all of them seem pretty polite, all of them the community and thank HTC, and interestingly enough, ALL of the are met with the same band-waggon "Don't let the door hit you" sheep.

falc... don't you allready have like 90 or so guys to order around and nanny?   Isn't that enough for you?

I see what toad sees... the whiney crybabies get the "don't let the door hit you on the way out" and the oldtimers that leave without whining get a "see ya, will miss ya... come back soon"

Your spin is just crap.  An excuse for seeming moral superiority.

hell.. the whiners were probly all old relaxed realism guys anyway.

Hard to argue it when HTC has already said subscription numbers have actually INCREASED since the changes. If people weren't happy, they'd decrease.

If you post a crying, whine-spewing goodbye in a public forum, you're gonna get some flak.  Always been that was here, always will.

Toad pretty much nailed it.

I agree with Toad. Its all in the way you go out. Class is met with class.

Most of the "door" remarks I have seen and participated in were within another thread dealing with the changes in the game. Not in a goodbye thread.

If the thread is all pissing and moaning Im sure that the "door" comment would be included. But if the player leaving did state he/she does not like the changes to the game and no longer wish to participate then Im sure then even some of the player's BBS enemies would wish for them to return soon.

Then there are those few who do add their unwelcome comments. But those are expected and usually ignored until someone comments on it or makes a post about it. Then the comment becomes the highlight and overshadows the players withdrawl from the game. Just like a troll.

My goodbye from the entire HTC community goes up in late November as I am leaving for the military. Feel free to tell me to let the door hit me on the way out. Because honestly, if anyone takes something personal as in a insult from text on the internet. Its a shame.

I left, never said goodbye  (3 weeks ago):(

perhaps i should?

OK.

To those that knew me  . To those that saved my arse while in the virtual sky .

All I can say is it was fun while it lasted, the fun stopped, so did I but made many friends along the way, so that must be a good thing.

HTC............ contrary to what you might think after all the griefer posts i posted, I really do wish you the best of luck with this and I hope your decisions prove me wrong.

Now start the mud slinging  :aok

I see nothing wrong if a guy leaves and decides to post his reasons why he's leaving.
Just seems some people can't resist the juvenile "dont let the door" comments.

Look at it this way it's another $15 a month lost (they all add up), that could go into game development.

You a fine one calling anyone a whiner - Your posts for the last God knows how long have been nothing but whines against everyone and anything non-furball.

The "you aren't helping" comment is a gem - You and your small clique of self appointed AH police have done more in the last year or so to cause more friction in the community than any of the recent game changes.

As for "everyones getting what the want" and the "arenas are working" - LOLOLOLOL, which frickin planet you living on.

he is telling us how to act toward each other.   When a player blames everyone and the game on him quitting and claims that it is changes in the game that are making him quit...

He will get positive answers from those who agree the changes are bad and he will get negative ones from those who are happy and relieved with the changes and are glad to finaly have a little bit of more fun in the game.

It can be percieved by some, like falc, that we are picking on the whiner... to others it is simply... "you had it your way for ages and it sucked and now that things are getting better you want to pout and throw a tantrum and threaten us?"   Why should we feel bad or sympathetic that a gameplay that we hated is not as easy for him to do anymore?

the guy could simply say.... I am getting burned out or... life is in the way etc.... I never see negative responses to this kind of post.

I have seen guys who like to furball leave in the past and whine on their way out... I agreed with why they left and was positive... the toolshedders didn't and they were negative.

I never seen falc get all teary eyed and moral about that tho.

Nope.. it is only now that his ox is being gored that he asks for a koooom bye aaaah session.   It was never "can't we all just get along?"   before.

An appropriate post to say my goodbyes - hopefully will not get flamed here.

To the friends I've made - been good flying with yah. Maybe when life gets less hectic I'll be back. I kept my account over a year, playing only a few times.

To the 367th (and those that left) - really enjoyed the time - thanks folks. -DH, Cooley, Kev, Lynx, Virt, Jaxxo.....etc - give us a buzz if you ever come to the Caribbean.

Hasta la vista folks

Here is fridays peek numbers between 10 and 11 central. for that past weeks. starting at 2 weeks before the first arena limit change.

The 693 is the first friday after the change. And the 666 was last week end.

    Fri 22:00 664.5 552.5 693 672.5 553 537.5 656 666

When ever comparing arena numbers, you have to always look at same days and same times. Most people just tend to compair what they rember as the big numbers vs what they see when they log on as a low case.

But like I said in previous post, even if we post numbers people just belive what they wish.

HiTech.

Granted, we could use a bigger range... but that shows us an average 609 players before the changes, and about 630 average afterwards... so cries that the game is so much smaller now... are simply unfounded and have nothing to back them up but emotional pleas.

Could also say to get a better representation -
Showing 6 weeks before the change instead of 2, with the 6 weeks after the change would be a better compariosn.

i.e. 6 v 6 instead of 2 v 6.

let's not forget that fall numbers are higher for internet gaming and browsing.  I base this from the numbers on my servers, I have noticed that in the fall and winter months traffic increases and in the summer it decreases.
