Title: Time to be adults again
Post by: USRanger on October 25, 2006, 10:53:13 PM
Look at all the threads in this forum.  I am ashamed of us.  I'm also VERY ashamed that I bit and took part in it.  We got to rant & rave & play intardnet tough guys & know-it-alls, but now it's time to grow up.  I am begging this community to cease fire and just....let it go.  No one has changed their stance on the issues and y'all know as well as I do they (I) are not gonna.  We could go on forever with the back and forth slams.  For what?  Why?  It helps...?  Can y'all imagine what someone comin' to the boards for the first time thinks of us?  If I'd read all these kinds of threads before I subscribed, well, I wouldn't have.  I'd just be thinking "What a bunch of , no thanks".
To HT & crew, I apologize for the way these boards are making the game look.  Hopefully everyone will start new, constructive threads that will push these useless, venom spitting threads back into the depths of oblivion where they belong.
To Laz, Hubs, Storch, Guppy & the rest: though we do not agree (at all), I'm glad that you guys care so much about how the game goes and it's good to see people stand up for what they believe in, even in a game forum.  I'm sorry that the two sides can't stop the name calling and meet in the middle.
Well ladies & germs, I am willing to meet in the middle.  I will fly with my squad doing our strat/base capture thing in LW/MW, but will start spending a lot more time in EW, trying the pure fighter way of playing.  I love to furball, I just don't like the way the pure-furballers talk to people, and that has really turned me against them.  It's gotta start somewhere.
In closing, I'd like to end this with the slogan of the US Army Infantry School: "Follow me!"  <> to the ENTIRE community.

                                          Rainja

I'd like to tag along, all I can offer is an old timer that enjoys playing the game (most of the time), a so-so has been last place 1/2witted squad and a positive attitude.:aok

Hope it helps

Thank you fellas. Seriously.  MOIL, I'll take ya up on that.  I've always had the utmost respect for the LTARs.  Matter of fact, if I hadn't been a BoP, you guys would have been the squad for me.  I'll make another compromise/effort.  Is there any large squad (or a couple smaller ones) that would like to face off against the BoPs on Monday nite 9-11pm EST for our squad nite?  I'm talkin people who want to have a good ol' fashioned brawl, but have a real good time doin' it (like lots of s & gf's on ch. 200).  I think it'd be a blast and good for the community.  Any takers?  Come get some turds!! :D

<> Great Post.  I have also stopped posting in regard to gameplay, realizing I am not going to change anyones mind or opinion. I dont currently have the time to perfect my own H2H arena, so I'm just gonna ride the tide for a bit & see which dust settles first.

Till then, I have 3-4 arenas to find a respectable fight in. I have been able to do so 5 outta 6 times, which is a huge increase compared to old MA.

I have said it before and its worth repeating-"AH just sets up the game, its up to us how it gets played":aok

The goal has to be to get folks to play better together.  It isn't about being on one side or the other.  We need to do something as a group to make the game fun for all.

More power to ya for looking at it that way :)

Got one deleted and deleted one myself because I reacted to the post..

I will try again...

Thank you for any and all  time that you spend in the LW arena and...

I agree with you that we will never see eye to eye.

I would also say that.... given all that and the fact that feelings are running so high ritght now..... it is probly best if the ringleaders just stay out of each others sandbox for a while at least...

Which is fine when you don't interact with your customer base on the level that he does.  Don't pretend to be my "buddy" one week and as soon as you get some complaints start backlashing at the community with sarcastic posts or deleting them all together.

I like HiTech, I think its cool how he interacts with us the way that he does, that goes for all the HTC guys, but just beacuse you're having a rough week is no reason to go totally overboard with the rules on the BBS because you can.

Free: Did it ever occure to you that I might just be doing my job?

And I realy do not recall ever being budy budy, except when Im flying, then I view myself as just another player, and act as so. Other than that I just do my best to treat people respectfuly.

And as for respect, how about you give me just a wee bit and assume I do most things rationaly. Wrather than jumping to the "Bad Day" conclusion.

Because post like yours and lazs are not realy considered funny in the contect of this thread, and were in reality a total disrespect for USRangers topic, I.E. some people just tried to belittle the point , and then pretend it was just a joke.

Free (et al)

Culture, respect, plain good manners....no matter what you call it, it makes life better.

Most importantly, treating others repsectfully makes YOU more effective -- if you dont pizz people off, they're more likely to work with you, to see your point of view.

HT definitely takes suggestions, and listens when we talk. Like any good manager, he is willing to hear opposing viewpoints, and he's implemented a long list of player suggested ideas. He shouldnt run his business by opinion polls any more tham a doctor should -- there is expert judgement involved in both endeavors.

There's no reason to expect that nastiness will be well recieved. I mean, what would you expect?

By being adults... does that mean that we will try to make things better?   that we will switch sides when it will make gameplay better and more fair fights?   At least in a furball?

I mean..... not much of a furball or an adult way to play if one side is unwilling to switch to help the gameplay in the fight right?

Otherwise... them being there just makes things worse.   adds to the animosity and keeps gameplay unfair...  I am not talking overall numbers either... furballs don't have anything to do with country numbers... it is local numbers that count.

Mature adults realize this and if they want to act like mature adults they switch sides.   In some arenas like the late war.... who cares?  it is pretty much a slum anyway... no need to switch...allmost everyone there is looking to have the biggest advantage they can get and cause the most grief they can but..

If you really want to get into the "spirit" of the thing in the early war then you would need to act like an adult and switch when required for good gameplay...

otherwise... it would just add to the problem... that is not what adults do right?

I will Lazs. I do, and will continue to-

1)Switch sides as needed to balance numbers(unless 2of3 countries arent fighting each other).
2)Refuse to participate in uneven fights (not attack the con with 2 or more Bogeys on him already, unless I know its someone I really want to kill).
3)Refuse to participate in a whorde.
4)Try to rally counter measures for incoming whordes.
5)Refrain from flying EZ mode rides.

And I shall vow to continue to:

1) Never switch sides.  I like my squaddies and alliance, and I will never be the one accused of spying.
2) Refuse to participate in uneven fights when I'm at the disadvantage.  I will vow to look for and create uneven fights where victory is assured.  Sorta kinda like real combat pilots do.
3) Never refuse an opportunity to join the horde, for this is most fun!
4) Try to rally counter hordes for the hordes, then go out-horde them at their own horde base.
5) Refrarin from EZ mode rides when I'm needing Perk points, and use them when my Horde needs a win.

amigo.... you are not a real fighter pilot and this is not a real war.... it doesn't even try to simulate one... it is a simulation of WWII aircraft and vehicles..

There is nothing about it that is like any war ever...  What you wish to simulate tho is the very worst aspects of war... the reasons war is not a game and is no fun.

Games are made to be fun.   War is not.

i would think people who want to simulate a real war would also what to simulate valor not assured victory.  but wth do i know.  like in ww2 no battles were fought where victory was assured.  it's even easier to be brave in a game...heck it might even be fun.  and if you are fighting a battle that you are assured to win, why should anyone think you are good at what you do?  if a "normal" person goes to the special olympics and wins, does that make him as good as "normal" olympian?  If the United States invaded and captured barbados would the world stop and say "wow, now that is an impressive feat!"

pluck put the difference between a war and a game perfectly but still... many will pretend they don't see it.

I saw that. And I fairly well agree. The daily game is where the player supposedly enjoys honing his skillz (even if they do it as a pair or a small group). Leave the real battle simulation for the events. But even then .... it's the risky strategy that ends up winning that'll bring faux glory to the faux ace.

ledpig... if you pick fights where you think you will win even tho the odds are against you... you are probly simulating what real aces did.

If you only pick fights where you are sure to win...  you will be bored to death unless you are a pretty boring guy to begin with.   It is the chance of losing that makes it fun.  it is coming out ahead when the odds are even or against you that is satisfying.

If you only pick fights that you are sure to win...you will never get good... and... when you do lose... it has got to be really really really embarassing huh?

I love it when I reverse a plane with all the cards... alt, position, e and cannons and... speed and climb... he never got good and he died.

The only person who picks a fight where victory is assured is a bully. Now we all know the level of bravery exhibited by bullies, don't we.

I  think this whole exercice has shown one truth.

You can take the person out of the slum, but you can't take the slum out of the person.

Thank you for clearing up my delusion about being a fighter jock, but I pay $14.95 a month to get out of AH what I want to get out of it.  I prefer to conduct combat as if my life depended on it, in most cases.  I enjoy the fighter pilot fantasy that AH affords me, and surviving my sorties is part of the game for me.

If you prefer I play using your rule set for personal conduct, I can give you my PayPal info so you can pick up the tab.  I'll be your loyal pawn and fighter drone in return.

for 14.95 you would play any way I asked you too?

I guess that those who say AH is too cheap and that is the problem may have a point.

Well spoken USRanger<>. I have to admit that in the past I have had a pretty poisoned tongue and have been pretty rude to a few. I guess when you see nothing but negative comments and get the perverbial smartass on every comment in the BB... Well, one can act just as ignorant and stupid as the rest!
I enjoy the game and quite a few of the people who play it. No, I do not like any of the changes, but will ride out the storm with the rest of you. Count me in!
