Jimmy Lagrone, Republican candidate for Secretary of State, and my first cousin (I Swear!), needs your vote.
He's honest to a fault, well educated, personable and nothing more than what he seems to be at first glance.
A former pastor and for several years the leader of the Arkansas Southern Baptist Convention, he is a moderate Republican who believes deeply in conservative values and yet is not a fire-breathing fanatic. Jim is greatly respected by people of both political stripes.
His only major failing as a human being is that he can't drive a four-wheeler worth a fig. The last time I rode one while he was in charge of the driving he managed to throw me off the seat and roll over my right leg....three times. To his credit, he was trying his best to get the thing back into gear so that he could roll off of me, and the clutch kept slipping. No bones were broken, but my life flashed before my eyes.
A hunter and strong family man. His oldest son did a tour of duty in Iraq.
He is having a problem with name recognition. His opponent is the incumbent Charlie Daniels (not the singer). Daniel's critics have for years accused him of nepotism (He has maneuvered his wife and son into high-paying state jobs; his son is heavily involved in the purchase and operation of the state's electronic election machinery.) Charlie has a reputation as a hard drinker with numerous DWI's to his credit. He is considered by some to be so corrupt that even Bill Clinton tried to dissuade him from running for State Land Commissioner in a previous election.
The best that some of his critics have to say about Daniels is that perhaps he is merely incompetent.
While Jim has attempted to make the mismanagement of the state's election process, which is Daniels' responsibility, his major issue, he is having trouble gaining any traction with it. Jim is too well-spoken and mannerly to get personal or sling mud.
I have no such problem. Charlie is an arrogant, corrupt, drunken ass. Typical of the old style political bosses who used to run the state and manipulate the voting process.
Check the facts for yourself. Then, help put an honest and deserving man into office.

Shuckins, didn't you mean to post this at http://forums.hillbillies.com ?

Only in Arkansas can being "honest" also be considered a "fault".:aok

Culero...WHAT YOU SAYIN" BOY!? :furious
:D
Nah...all kiddin' aside, just thought I'd make a little plug for my cuz. He's really a good guy, but he's fightin' an uphill battle in a state that has seen uninterrupted democratic control in the state legislature since 1874.
His personal attributes and integrity do little to offset the fact that he is a Republican, in a state where that is often the kiss of death, at least in any district south of Conway.

Figures that some peeps here, regardless of intention, don't know how to support and display any good manners - but maybe thats just Texas -
Shuckins - your post alone would give me enough to vote for him (if I lived there). Keep at it - and let us know how it goes.

Thanks Black Sheep....appreciate that.
Jim's main problem, aside from a lack of name recognition, has been the lack of a suitable issue upon which to hang his hat. He could have made his opponent's character an issue, but has chosen not to do so. Nor has he made his own religion an issue.
He's basically running for office because of the insistence of many of his friends. Anyway, he's having a tough time of it, and is trailing in the polls.
So...thought I would do what I could for him....as meager as my talents and influence are.

Man there are some cold hearted MF'ers on this site (funny, but cold-hearted nonetheless)
...good luck Shuckins...

Red Tail, ah it's okay. As my momma always says, they wasn't raised right.
:D
If Jim doesn't win the sun will still come up in the morning.

If I lived in Arkansas, I'd take a closer look. But I'm in Texas and we here owe the invention of the "toothbrush" to Arkansas. Hell, if it was invented anywhere elese, it'd be called a "teethbrush"

You have to streamline your efforts. What are gonna get here - 3 votes?
And btw - I didn't read through the whole post ( who reads political spam?), so if it's really a joke... oh yea, I get it!:D
-
No Joke....but only a moderately serious effort. I haven't got much time for anything more serious than this.

One or two of you responded to this post wanted an update on Jimmy's campaign.
In yesterday's edition (Sunday, Nov. 4) the state's leading newspaper endorsed Jim Lagrone for Secretary of State....almost the only Republican to win such an endorsement from them in this year's election.
"Jim Lagrone for secretary of state. He wants plans in place in case something goes wrong on election day. Imagine that! Getting the votes counted rounght. (In Arkansas, that's the secretary of state's job, and his most important one.) Jim Lagrone also says he won't hire family members if he's elected secretary of state, which would be a big change. And a welcome one."
So things are looking up.

Greets, Shuckins! (Waving from Hot Springs)
I think your cousin's commercials are ok...but he doesn't mention any of his stands on the issues in them.
There are more issues out there than promising not to hire Uncle Zeke.
Best of luck to your cousin tomorrow!

Casinoman,
Thanks for the reply. I'm afraid many Arkansas voters haven't been paying close attention to the race for secretary of state....which is a pity, for Charlie Daniels needs to go...pronto.
Here is one example of the type of thing he is capable...admittedly an issue that will be off the scope for many....but unethical nevertheless.

Take the time to research some of the campaign issues and accusations of unethical actions by Daniels, and you'll get some idea of why he is the only democrat running for a major state office that the Arkansas-Democrat Gazette did NOT endorse in tomorrow's election.

Your cousin is running against a fiddle player? Only in Arkansas.
-
What?! You got no fiddle players where you come from? How uncivilized!
Tell ya what...we'll send ya Charlie...just watch your wallet and your booze...he'll hit em like Sherman hit Atlanta.
