Just a quick note here.
A long time member of the flight sim community and a member of the Nightmare Squad since forever, Reverend Ron Wood aka Woody, passed away on Friday the 20th of October. Woody was an exemplary member of our community and a leader in his community and his church. We have all lost a very good guy.
I'll leave the details up to others, suffice it to say Woody deserves to be remembered.

Here is a little more information -
Woody passed away on Friday, October 20th. He was struggling over the past several months with complications from a recent transplant. In real life Woody was Ron Wood, minister of a Baptist Church in Kansas. Woody leaves behind a wife, children, family, friends, as well as a whole congregation that mourns his loss, he will be missed in many circles. Woody was very accepting of whatever God had in store for him, he was strong in his faith, and that comforted him over these last few trying months.
Woody's life verse was Rom 5:8 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us". Even through these roughest of times, his primary concern was that his church was still spreading that message.
I am not nearly as religious as Woody, but I respected him greatly for his faith, how he carried himself in the arenas, and his respect for others. We will miss him greatly, he was part of the heart and soul of the Nightmares for the last ten years, through the glory days of both AirWarrior and Aces High. Woody would want all of us to carry on in the camaraderie we enjoy in this simulation, and he would want us to look back at his time with us with only fond memories at the good times we shared.
The visitation was Thursday evening and the funeral was this afternoon. If any of you who knew Woody would like to share your thoughts or prayers for the family, please send an e-mail to our Squadmate Squig at jason.boatman@alltracorp.com. Squig will print them off and share them with Woody's wife, that would mean a lot to her.
At some point, we will do a memorial flight for Woody. Right now the Nightmares are all struggling with what has happened, but when we arrange the flight, we will let the community know.

Ahhh, man, I'm really sad to hear that. I remember "Woody" very well. Back in AW days He and I were about equal in our flying/fighting abilities. We had many memorable duels in the 38. Even though I flew the Pony more often than not, I would up in a 38 when we duelled because that's what he preferred. I always looked for him soon as I came online, because he was so comfortable to be with because he never engaged in trash talk, was always a good loser and a gracious winner. You could always count on a "
" from Woody after an encounter with him.
Woody. Happy flying for eternity.

Woody
A respectful man at all times and an honest person you could talk to in times of joy and need. Back in the AW days when I was in the VMF-898 "Nightmares", I had a personal conversation with Ron over the telephone for some real life issues that needed resolution. Even though I'm not deeply religious, his thoughts on the subject helped me to make the right decisions. Best wishes to his loved ones left behind.

Woody:
The news hit me like a ton of bricks. We will miss your presence. A class guy. A positive influence on the AH community. We mourn the loss tearfully but look forward in hope to a glorious reunion in the heavens.

The Nightmares will host a Memorial Flight for Woody this coming Sunday, November 5, 2007. The Flight will be in the Mid War Main Arena, and will start at 9:00 p.m. EST. ENY and other side-balancing features are supposed to be turned off, so we can meet at one of the rear Rook fields for the Flight. If for some reason overloading Rookland causes Arena problems, we can up from different Countries and meet in air for the Flight.
For those of you who fly in the Mid War Main Arena, we have no intention of interrupting game play. The Flight will take place away from the action, and should not last very long. Woody’s favorite rides over the years included the Lightning, Mustang, Focke Wulf and Tiffie, all of which are available in the Mid War Main Arena. Feel free to choose one of these planes, or any plane of your liking.
If you knew Woody and are available this Sunday, please join us for this short, Memorial Flight. I'm collecting ideas for the flight but I don't anticipate anything real formal. Mainly a chance to fly together for a bit, say anything that is on your mind, and think of the good times we enjoyed with Woody. If you have any questions, or have some ideas for the Flight, please contact me at dawg898@fuse.net. I hope to see you this Sunday.

One quick update. MGD would like to host this Flight in the SEA Arena instead of the Mid War Arena. This will insure we don't interrupt game play, and allow MGD to set it up as a special mission with features enabled that will make it very memorable :). MGD, thank you very much!

Yes he was, and always will be.
His handle is one of the oldest I have a memory of starting with AW. He was always gracious, helpful and a lot of fun to "fly with. He'll be missed.
