Is AA widespread in your countrys? Is it looked downed on?
-
They are available in most larger cities I think. Like with most of these kinds of things they are looked down on by those who belive they are above everyone elses problems and weaknesses, but for most people without problems they are just another oraganization.
*hic*
were you hinting and/or fishing? :D
-
I hunt fish?

AA = Alcoholics Anonymous?
-
"AA = Alcoholics Anonymous?"

-
androgynous

In Finland, alcoholics are rarely anonymous. Everyone knows them. :D
Here we have something like absolutist anonymous.. nobody knows the quiet non-drinking guy. :aok

In almost all practical ways for people living their day to day lives Europe is exactly the same as the US. If there is an organisation here, there will be an equivalent organisation there. If there is a store here, there will be an identi-kit store there.
Only difference is that in Europe they usually speak better English than here in the US ;)

Well, except most things are bigger in the US. And cheaper.

Even the Chinese things are cheaper in the US because of high european taxing.
-
So, it's taxing to be a Yerpeein?
-
Sometimes it is, untill I need some of the free services the taxing provides.
All in all I'm content with the present system even if the taxes seem ridiculous sometimes. We have a society that has been labeled as the least corrupted in the international comparison as well as free press (top position in freedom of press comparison chart many years in a row now).
This means I can live my life in a secure enviroment without having to worry about getting ripped off by public institutions.
Yeah, we pay $7 / gallon for gas.. :D I wonder why 40mpg Toyota's are so popular down here..
Mediterranean countries and middle europe has comparatively lower taxing than scandinavia though. OTOH they don't provide high quality services in return either. Luckily (for them) there's the private sector which is often subsidized by government to some extent. Even here I can get 50% of my medical expenses back if I use the private side.

No need for official censorship when you have self-censorship.

nope, I buy lots of stuff made in finland by a company called fiskars. they are competetive with the chinese crap when you factor in quailty. i'll pay a few dollars more for a better quality item.
mersu, my dad just returned from a trip to finland he said gasoline was closer to US$8.00

Right turn on red is one of the best trafic feature comparing with Europe, also makes trafic move better. Also, left on green , not advanced green
The brits are nut head with their driving on the left side of the road, i don't get it,Why don't they give it up?
Now they have that tunel are better conected with the rest of Europe, i didn't drive throgh it, i was wondering how they make the shift from one side of the road to the other when they reach the other shore??!! Or they use trains to haul the cars?
Few years ago, i rented a car in Bermuda, and happy jumped on the road to visit the island, but shortly after slowly and careful .i drove back and give them back the car, that trafic on the left side was a is not logic, and dangerous for one not ussed to it, The island is small, no hwy just narrow 2 way roads, anytime i pass a vehicle on the right side , i forgot to move back on the left

i dont know where u live, but right turn on red is an aged stone
in the part of Europe at least where i live, but whats going on here for a few
years is we are removing traffic lights completely if its possible and
build rondells, like this pic belowe, its a more bigger rondell though,
there are many much smaller ones.
There is almost no stop for cars, everything flows.
Comparing to the us, this is a hughe + for Europe ;)
-
Ghi the government have decide that from 2007 all trucks and buses will drive on the right side of the road.
If this works in 2008 theyll let the cars do it too.
theres nothing wrong with driving on the left its our island and we got to confuse the french some how

I was born in Romania, i ussed to work in Stuttgart also , i live in Toronto for 8 years, and drove in most of Europe, North America, soo i can compare,
Your picture is the ideal intersection , but reality is not like that, how many intersection like that are in Europe in city trafic? I fly every year from Toronto to Amsterdam /Frankfurt/Paris rent a car and drive for pleasure through Europe to Transivania to see my parents,
The city trafic in Europe is much worst, narrow streets, small parking also the unlimited speed limit on the autobahn in Deutchland is crazzy, you will not see speed limit over 75-80 mph,(130km/h) in US, and 120km/h max in Canada,

Is this a joke?! If is a 2 way road, How to let trucks and buses drive on the right side, if l small cars are coming head on!?:(

C) We have satellite, the US supply will do
D) Containers? We get cheap stuff smuggled from Russia in those if that's what you mean.
E) Presence of these is growing all the time as they renew signaling
Most things that are in the US are also present in europe if then in smaller amounts.
And ps. don't listen to mora I think he's listed in the communist party. :huh

We have that exact joke with Swedish government.
Another good one with the Swedish is the trick question: Why are Swedish police teams always a pair of man and a woman?
.
.
.
.
.
They want to prevent relationships between police officials.. :D

How wrong can you be?
A) There actually is an "NRA".
B) No we don't, kiosk's and gas stations are not proper supermarkets(limited selections and rip-off prices in most cases). Not even a 7-Eleven could legally operate here.
C) There is a christian channel on cable
D) Yes we have an open container law. A friend actually got fined once.
E) There's absolutely no right turn on red. There are arrow signals, which are good, but they are not the same thing at all.
Communist?:O That's funny 'cause to me You actually sound like the regular leftist Joe.
(Ylläoleva ei millään pahalla, tai turhalla vakavuudella.)
-
This is totally OT.
The recent freedom of press study(to which MrRipley pointed earlier) was ridiculous. Denmark was down to 19th place from last years first. The reason was apparently the Prophet Mohammad case! It was a French study, so what can you expect... :lol
-
Well you're wrong mora. There are several new junctions which have a free right turn lane despite having a red light in the crossroad. Maybe not in your city.
While there are no 'supermarkets' 24/7 the ABC grocery stores provide everything needed grocery wise which is enough for at least me.
As what goes for NRA while we have an association, it can hardly be compared to NRA fighting for the constitutional right to bear arms lol.
Section C) I mean who could care less?
And about the leftist thing, I recall you making very leftist comments on earlier discussions thats why the comment. I'm a private business owner so I'm about as un leftist as it gets - but that hardly means I'm advocating any breakdown of the current social security systems. I prefer to evade taxes where necessary.
:t

A) No but we have something similar which won an important case lately, forcing the police to allow handguns and large calibre rifles again.
B) Here a few years now. Very convenient.
C) We have the same televangelists as you, sadly.
D) That's right. Long may it continue. Cheers.:aok
E) Correct, or correctly no left turn on red. We still do it though and to the right:eek:
-
As cpxxx points out Europe is far from being homogenous. Each country still forms its own laws despite being a part of EU. In fact it seems even traffic rules differ from city to city within the country as mora didn't know about the right-turn-on-red junctions.
Also we don't have an open container law inside vehicles, if moras friend got fined someone made a big mistake there. It is however possible for cities to prohibit public display of consuming alcoholic beverages. But that's public, inside of the car is private.
All of this is a bit OT / does anyone even care? :D

Still not the same as an universal right turn on red.
Point A was a bit of a joke. On point C I fully agree. On point D I plead guilty. This is totally POintless...

If your taxes pay for them, they most certainly are not free. This is a difference in mentality here in the US between big government types and those of us who feel its role should be minimized wherever possible.

Yeah that line of thinking works just up untill to the point untill you lose your employment / insurance and have to go for a cancer biopsy. Then it will suck big time - but at least there will be nobody left to complain once you die away. :aok
-
A) You might think you have an NRA, but you don't. If you think you do ask yourself:
1) Do you know the name of the president of this organization?
2) How many bumper/car stickers for this organization have you seen?
3) How many of those suggest that your head of state is in fact the president of said organization?
B) Well, please send your all-night supermarkets this way. Hell even the stop-and-rob at the train station closes at 10. If I have to catch a flight to Ireland for an all-night supermarket, it's not very convenient.
C) Importing American televangelists isn't the same.
D) Not much argument on this one.
E) I'm sorry, but "free right turn lanes" and those bloody traffic circles do not count. Yes we have traffic circles, in the US. We even have really big collection of them. We call it "Boston". And yeah, bostonians drive like Greeks.
