Been thinking about what 50 people have left Aces high in the past month or so, and there are always and will always be whinners. But do you think HTC cares if 30 people arnt happy while 6000 are? Heres goldelks simple math to help under stand that helped me under.
15 = cost per month
6,000 = apr # of players
12 = months in a year.
15 x 6,000 = 90,000
90,000 x 12 = 1,080,000 <---is my guess of HTC gross income
Now i know HTC is trying to make everyone happy and there doing a good job of it! Over 6000 peaple are happy!!!! Now i know some arent but if your running a buisness I belive u try to make the most people happy that you can and by making these changes i belive HTC has done that !
Now i relize that some arnt but there will always be those who arnt happy.
Those r my thoughts
All
P.S. Keep up the changes HiTech and keep trying to improve gameplay for all of us!:aok

Expenses take a huge chunk out of that gross income. Think about how much of the pie Skuzzy is taking along with the rest of his employees. Also he has to pay for servers, Utilities for the office, government taxes, costs for ads, etc.

YOU'RE ABOUT 2000 TOO HIGH ON NUMBERS

What's this thread supposed to be doing?

While I don't think your post was ill intentioned goldelks...
I don't think talking about someone else's finances is good form.
Not flaming ya, and others might disagree. Just my opinion...

Good question.

I think he is pointing out that HT is bringing home a decent amount of cake.. and the folks who left gotta be wondering what the heck to do with themselves after they get off the late shift at McDonalds.:lol
you can only watch "the lord of the Rings" so many times!

if you think only 50 people have left the game..i would have to wonder where you get those numbers from??
and if you think 5500 are happy with it..then again i got to wonder how you came up with this? obviously not from reading the bbs?
silly post...
we all hope the game does well...but lets not fluff the pillows or we may end up with nowhere to lay our heads

Try again, Falc.
In september over 6000 people played enough time to be included in rank calculations. How do I know?
Just a little sneaky score manipulation....
Anytime you want to know that number, check the score of someone who plays enough to get a rank in one category, but zeros in another. For example, widewing (my usual test subject) spends huge chunks of time in the TA (!!!) and doesnt spend nearly as much time elsewhere. In september, he alwys flew attack, never fighter.
So, without any fighter sorties, he was ranked dead last. And dead last for meant he was at the end of a line with 6147 players (september 2006) ahead of him.
In comparison, July 2006 was 5714.
Cant do the assessment for every month, because test subjects dont always have zeros in the most common column, fighter score. Numbers in other columns (bombers, GVs) are always lower...but you can extrapolate if you run some ratios.
Assuming that the ratio of GVplayers:FighterPlayers is statistically constant....
4185:6147 for 9/06; 3743:X for 9/05; X=5497 in sept 05
Numbers are DEFINITELY higher
So, despite the dissatisfaction of some, and even without HT's proprietary data, you have to admit that the overall numbers are AT WORST every bit as high, and maybe even higher than before the change.

Wrong, too low is more like it.

i hate numbers, there is always too many of them.
-
Actually there are aprox 6,000 player accounts registered in squadrons.
I suspect actual # of players is going to run between 8 & 10k.
-
But what you guys are forgetting is that some and I mean some of those players are only doing the two week trial period
-
really u think there are about 8 to 10k paying acconts?
-
Many squads have several old (account) names included. They are not automatically removed if an account is ended.

As I read this post, I think I know the overall tone of Goldelk's message is this...
Can't make 100% of people happy 100% of the time....so do what you can, and HTC is doing just that.
Personally, I am OK with the big MA split. It's added some things that wern't possible in the old MA setup. EX: I love the Hurri 2C, but hated fighting LA's in them. EAW I don't worry about LA's. I think my biggest beef /w the split is the division of community. However, that is all IMHO, and continue to adapt to any changes HTC makes.
to the Aces High Community, may we wether the storm and continue to have fun in a game that is IMHO one of the greatest games designed

Well, there is always another game out there who will welcome those that are lost here.

Top dollar is right, and so is Blauk. If an account is created for every screen name( example: I was first Frode22, then when I let that account lapse, I started a new one, Frode21, then closed it, became FrodeII, got tired of people calling me FrodeLL, then became FrodeMk3) Then alot of people are being counted 2,3,4,or more times. So, it's really hard to tell how many active paying accounts there really are.

True for total squad numbers, but when it comes to monthly rankings only the ones that have flown enough THAT MONTH to get ranked (ie no longer "Rank =0") will be counted. From an arena population standpoint, a player is a player is a player -- so 2 weekers who never join show up, and long time vets who keep active accounts but dont fly will NOT show up.
So it seems to me that the rank measure is a pretty fair one for players active that month. Wouldnt try to make financial calculations, but since some were claiming that changes had decreased the player base, the rank data should track pretty well.

I think the 2-weekers also show in the rank lists when they fly, bu tnot in the next month anymore if they quit. But then there are already new 2-weekers in that month's rank. How many... dunno.

I hope HTC will be smarter than you in judging why and how some players left. What a post :huh

Actually Sim all the vets that didn't get ranked are still paying.
So anyone who ends the tour with a 0 ranking is getting missed by your calculations.
Partly depends on what your looking for, active pilots or Active Accounts.
Either way its a much bigger number than most realize.
-
I didnt quit... I broke my right wrist and cant fly :cry. I am going crazy.
I cant hold a joystick and hit the buttons. This sucks.
Might have to what Stang does when he is on his laptop and just catch rides with people.
