i can't resist , so i bough E6400 +ecs matherboard
Is there any way to just replace motherboard without reinstalling system?

I did it with my C2D +Asrock motherboard. I simply uninstalled all my old motherboard drivers, shut down the PC, installed the new board and chip, booted and installed drivers.
It's running with no issues.

windows esp XP can very picky about drivers already installed. you can simple reinstall the OS over the OS currently install. i you have the XP CD boot up and cuse the repair OS feature, dont format/create partiion or anything like, it should reinstall the OS with the new motherboard and still keep your registry settings for all your programs etc. if you reinstall and delete the current OS you would have to reinstall all the programs but your data would still be there. those are 2 options with a new MB really that i have used.

im back
i had to do nothing to install new drivers
all what i have to do was switch in control panel IDE drivers to default windows
after replacing motherboard i run manufacturer CD and all was done within 10 minutes after 2 system restarts.
Internet connection come back after installing network card without troubles
cpu-z shows 2 cores, but now i have to figured out how to chk its works properly or not.
So far looks like system is faster then old one.

Ramzey press alt-ctrl-del and go to the 'performance' tab on the task manager. There should be two CPU Usage History graphs, one per core. I had a significant boost in performance upgrading from an Athlon XP to a C2D.

congrats! your lucky, i have always had problems with the IDE drivers when switching motherboards, getting the blue screen of death on boot up.

What Asrock MB did you get?

How do you guys replace windows,,,,buy new version each time?
It will never let me reinstall after a major upgrade,,,,,and yes I called MS,,,,,waste of time

Easy fix -
Before removing the old motherboard -
1) Set IDE drivers to standard IDE drivers
2) Set graphics card drivers to std VGA drivers
3) Uninstall old onboard network drivers, install new ones.
Then replace.
Happens because XP and 2000 rely on the startup environment being the same (or nearly the same) between each power on/re-boot

I've replaced 3 motherboards with my current version of Windows XP. Yes it makes me call Microsoft, but I simply explain I upgraded, answer their questions, and they give me a code to unlock it. They have never given me any hassle about verifying my copy of Windows on a new computer.
Perhaps your copy was a OEM version that came with the computer (Dell, Gateway, etc)? In that case your copy of Windows was licensed ONLY for that computer, not to you the buyer. Which means you cannot move it to another computer. If you bought the box version of Windows XP retail, you bought it with 1 license to install it on 1 computer. It doesnt have to be the SAME computer, but you can only have it on 1 at a time. Forever. Or as close to it as software support can come.
