10 minutes ago I'm in LW Orange, and its full up. War is won by Knits. Booted off. Tried to log back in. Shoved to other LW arena. BUT the Orange arena says "217/120". OK, it's over filled. How did it ever get that way? What's going on?
Now, for the rant. AGAIN, for the upteenth time, Blue arena had 70 people on. Wow, a whole 20+ people per country if they are evenly divided (which they are not). Who wants to play late night/early morning mini-war during the early evening?
Since my squad night is about to start we'll have to go to the Blue arena, where our country already outnumbers the other two. So we'll slaughter them, crap on everything. And no, I won't explain it all again, but we aren't changing countries. You serve us, not the other way around. Period.
Sorry for being so uh, forceful, but we're getting fed up with the anti-squad environment. Believe us or don't, I'm getting to not really care.

well whatever. can't you see the irony. the one thing you could do to fix things in this situation you won't do. then blame HT because of it? okay. it's too bad because you seem to want to have a fight, and really the only thing stopping you is yourself.

Just do the rest of the community a favor and quit. Problem solved, plus it opens up another spot for someone else to play who otherwise wouldn't be able to get in.

Thats easy to explain. Before the mass boot (reset) both arenas were full, caps working their way up (to 217/220 for Blue i assume). Then, one arena is empty, which kind of "resets" the caps on both to 120. Untill Orange is filling and the caps rise again, Bluw will be at xxx/120.
-
You wouldnt happen to a bish squad by any chance??
Schatzi's spot on the first arena will start to dwindle people wont be able to login and go to the blue arena til thats full the other cap will then raise.
This process may take about 30 mins of our precious time.

The solution was there you and your squad chose not to take it. You could have had a pleasant evening in AH but decided not to. Period.

Your idea of a pleasant AH evening sounds lame to me; a lame choice is no choice at all when you're paying for a service.

Perhaps not, but I also wouldn't expect the manager of said steakhouse to tell me he didn't like the way I chewed my food or held my fork.

But the manager could also tell you where to sit and have you wait at the door until he was ready to seat you.
He might ask if you want smoking or non-smoking. And your choices would be limited to what's on the menu or you could leave and go to another restaraunt. :)
In essence 'this is what we serve and how we serve it." Your choice if you still choose to go in and partake of the service.

LOL the key phrase is 'sounds lame to me." Clearly you haven't tried it so how would you know?
We tend to have a good time when and wherever we fly. But then again the attitude we choose to have about how we approach the game is clearly different then yours :)

All clever analogies aside, the Late War Arenas are still difficult to get into.
Our Squad opted to go into LW2 instead of trying LW1 as its always full. Now LW2 is always full, so we cant link up to fly together anymore.
Its a real hassle. Can you please add more slots into the most popular arenas?

Try again.
How about, the loud and nasty patron who's being a jerk to the waitress and disturbing everyone else in the restaurant finally gets booted. The remaining patrons applaud, go back to their meals, and enjoy the once again pleasant atmosphere.
That pleasant atmosphere and good service keeps bringing patrons back.
The jerk may tell all his friends how crappy the restaurant is, but the product and atmosphere are good enough to speak louder for themselves.
EDIT This came out rougher than I intended, but I was staying inside the restaurant metaphor deliberately and the comments DO apply to some players. But HT does not swing the boot often or arbitrarily -- he puts up with a wide range of....interaction styles. ;)
As all things do, the game has changed. If you do not adjust to the changes, you will not have fun....and you will not be fun to be around. With all respect, you have to make a choice to either adapt, or to go elsewhere if you cant make the adjsutment. Thats not arrogance or unresponsiveness -- it's just how life is.

When I go out to eat, I've never selected a steak house restaurant, sat down, ordered from "their" menu, then mid-way through the meal, have them start serving serving chinese food instead of steak without notice, AND then blame me if I don't chew the food the way they want me to.

You fall back on the same, tired excuse, when you know that is NOT what we're saying. Take the analogy only as far as it was intended. Analogies are not all-inclusive, they are similies used to make a specific point understood by relating to a possibly common refererence.
No, we do not expect not to have some change. That's very obviously not what we are saying. It's some of your "change" is extremely radical sometimes, or sprung on us in a surprise that you impact people's enjoyment of the game, or just not very well thought out. We would take such things better if they didn't come as a complete, disruptive splash of ice cold water.
You know, if you'd have announced a week in advance that you were going to the new arena format, and would be experimenting with some of the parameters, and asked for constructive feedback, you would have avoided most (not all, but a lot) of the anger and dissatisfaction you have now. Yea, there would be some disatisfaction voiced a head of time, etc, etc, but in the long run you would have had the majority of players, maybe not liking the changes, but at least feeling you were considering them, and including them in the transformation process. It would have been less disruptive and have fostered less destructive responses than you have now. Instead, you have a hostile forum (it certainly doesn't feel like a friendly community anymore), made more so by you and your lack of consideration.
My biggest fear is your really don't understand this reaction from the players, on both sides of the question, and maybe don't care. Means someday, when some real competition comes along, you may find you have nothing in the "bank" with your customers.

Had he "given a week's notice", the whines would have been worse than they were/are from people like yourself.
I enjoy the Community, where else can you have "professional musicians who cannot tune a guitar, or sing simple lyrics without straining their voice", "folks who have rubbed elbows with the best WWII pilots who were alive when they did, or are still alive". "Folks who are too lazy to do what HTC has done, but are too quick to criticize when he institutes a change." "Pictures of crying Pandas, animations of n00k's that bring tears from laughter, and a host of others." Channel 200 and this BBS make Comedy Central look like "Mr. Roger's Neighborhood."
Suck it up or LEAVE! Trying to "tell HTC how to run HIS Business", is NOT the proper resolution. It seems your negativity, and pessimism have you at the end of your rope. Let go, it'll be easier for all involved.

I just don't get it...
My squad played before and after the change, heck, me and flyinPtz been around for 4 years...
The change was a little jarring, and then we adjusted and moved on.
Its never destroyed even one squad night... We go to mid, or late, or early, what ever works for the mission. Mid war is normally well populated (although I admit early war is a little sparse -- Shame, early is a lot of fun).
So the whole 'anti-squad' argument is poo...
The whole 'I can't play with my squad' argument is poo...
Anyone who is selling that line should instead say "My squad is dieing because we are to adverse to change"...
Or perhaps "We'd rather cry than play the game".
Sure, I'd rather have greater population in all the wars, but it will come.. Given time at least.
My only complaint is that the statistics are completely butchered now because people pad their score by flying in empty arenas...
Beyond that, SloeHand, I had a lot more respect for you before I read this thread. You really come across like a lost kid in a grocery store... (as long as we are playing analogy...)
-
Sloehand: Sorry I do not buy your argument. What would happen is before the change people would threaten to quit if we implement the change. The same people would still complaining about the change. The vocal few hew are still screaming loudly would have tried to get other people on there side before the launch. The launch would have gone much worse because of the apprehension about the change.
Sloehand: We very intentionally did not announce the original change because of the factors above. I can point to past examples where we have announced that we new would be controversial. All it accomplished was a longer period of complainants, and in no way helped the acceptance.
And I view your argument, as simply "I'm still unhappy with the current system, therefore I still have to try accuse HTC of some type of bad behavior."
In fact you are just beeting a dead horse, we addressed this very question, with responses to questions 2 or 3 days after the change.

It would be more like going to your favorite steak house to find out they no longer sell steaks, and are now a chinese food resturaunt.
With the added bonus of being heckled by every customer sitting in the now chinese resturaunt for asking why they don't sell steaks anymore.

Hmmmm ..... waaaahs and talk of taking one's buck and spending in elfquest instead and the demise of the game and threats to HTC, etc, etc ... doesn't sound like dialogue. In light of the game still living after having read the same waaaahs reincarnated since patch one also show ... there's always gonna be someone who ain't happy and wants to blame someone else for it. I disagree with this statement that there are only a few vocal ones that are disgruntled over the changes. A lot of people have learned that when a change has been made HT will not change back no matter what. I know a lot of people would state so but when you pounce on them like most have in this thread , are rude and just tell them to cancel their account why make the effort to try to improve the game paly. I know that if most businesses staff or owners were this rude they would not stay in business long. I miss the large maps that had better GV action so I pick when I play. But I also am not out recommending the game like I used to to people I know play this type of game. Word of mouth means a lot when it comes to new customers. I know thats how I got strted several years ago and now the 2 that got me started are hardly ever on since the change and the people I have told that have account are hardly on. So you few that keep telling people to cancel account may one day find you are the only few left. But it maybe that one of the goals was to limit peoples online time without actually putting a limit on it.
-
BigA--
Please realise that there is a huge difference between "people I know" and "people in general." That is true for the relative few who post here, and it is true for any circle of friends in the game.
Evidence posted elsewhere in these forums has pretty clearly shown that there HAS NOT been a decrease in players since the change. For every person who's left, it appears that at least one has returned.
-
Simaril,
I realize that there has been an increase since the change but you must also realize that there was advertising that came out about the same time. Which will account for some new players and how many will stay not just for 2 weeks or 6 months but for years like many of the old timers. Many from Air Warrior days.
-
I realize that there has been an increase since the change but you must also realize that there was advertising that came out about the same time.
ROFLMAO:We haven't changed the amount we advertise at all since long before the change.
Curious what your next assumption to try justify your position on the demise of AH will be.
-
I thought it would be a crappy idea, but ....... I have been made to eat my words. It's working just fine (for me anyways) and appears to be welcomed by the majority.

I whined a couple of weeks back when the LWA was first set up to ship you over to LW2 if LW1 was full. The further tweeking of the caps and the ".sr" command has definitely soothed that issue and I actually think HTC has done a pretty remarkable job of making all this workable. I believe the game is better overall now than it was before.
-
I, too, had a negative initial knee-jerk reation to the changes... but...I stuck with it... and have since enjoyed playing in all of the arenas and have learned to change sides to balance play. As a result, I have met many more fine folks in AHland and have enjoyed my time online much more than previously.
It really is up to you to make your own fun in Aces High; this is the lesson I learned from this change. HiTech gives you the tools to use...if you choose not to use them and resist using them...then you are spoiling your own fun.
-
Could we stop all the analogies and just discuss AHII? AHII needs paying customers. AHII does many things to attract a customer base. Customers come here to play what was advertised to them as a Massive multiplayer online game. 15 or 20 players in an arena is not Massive.
Some customers may even fell that AHII does not put the paying customer first.

except when AH takes the tools and down grades them, the mission planner is a very good example of a tool that was much better in prior releases.

A massive arena with an equally massive map was better because.....? I fail to see how it generated more challenging fights, or more opportunities to try something different. The main measure of intellect is the ability to adjust. Deal with it or become addicted to something else.
