Title: Air Combat Maneuvers - Books or Web resources
Post by: Agent360 on October 31, 2006, 02:22:52 PM
Does anyone know of a book or books that describe ACM in a teaching fashion? Or any internet pages that describe the actual maneuvers and how they are exicuted.

I am familiar with yoyo's, , rollaway's, etc. but i would like to have additional information on how they are performed and when to do so.

I am very interested in HO's tactics. This seems to be a favorite of a lot of players. Instead of maneuvering they like to constantly go for a HO kill. I have figured out how to easily avoid this as its pretty easy but I would LOVE to figure out how to maneuver against this and blow there pretty little arses out of the sky....LOL. It seemls like a lot of rookies dont know how to maneuver and just constantly turn into a HO situation over and over. These should be easy kills if I could turn this situation around into a offensive chase instead of escaping to altitude or the deck.

I have found a few resources on jet fighters but they are geared toward High speed maneuvering at over 500 mph.

Thanks

Try "Fighter Combat: Tactics and Maneuvering" by Bob Shaw. I'm sure you can find it just about anywhere like Amazon or other places. It's hardcover and address both missle and guns dogfighting. It's an exellent read.

Also, if you come into the Training Arena (TA) we can show you each maneuver and teach you how to perform them then how to use them tactically in ACM.

Hope this helps.

also :)

Hmm, lets see what else I have here.....
First look at Basic ACM  (post merge turns, 3 film studies) (http://479th.jasminemarie.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=9)
That will give the background for  About merges (http://479th.jasminemarie.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=50) which touches on taking advantage of the HO attempt
And I have 2 more ACM related articles... Attack/Pursuit modes (http://479th.jasminemarie.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=7), Yo-Yo's (http://479th.jasminemarie.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=10)

There are also some BFM descriptions at http://trainers.hitechcreations.com under "learning to fly"

There is also the book, "Basic Aerobatics" by Gezo Szurovy and Mike Goulian.  Stalls, aileron rolls, loops, half loops, Immelmann, Cuban eight, hammerhead, spins, and advanced maneuvers are some of the 22 chapters in this book.  Each chapter is about 10 pages. Of course, these are maneuvers for real aircraft and 'adjustments' are needed for simulated aircraft.  Still, all the basic ACM are there.

Thanks for all the suggestions

How do you view the AHF film files? And how do film your own fights.

Can you film your self doing maneuvers?

Thanks

Open .ahf files with AHFilm.exe, found in your Aces High II directory.

Press alt-R to record films while in flight (a red R will appear in the top left corner when film is recording).

To view your own films, go to your Aces High II/films directory which is where recorded films are saved.

There is also this book:

http://www.amazon.com/Luftwaffe-Fighter-Aces-Jagdflieger-Techniques/dp/0804116962/sr=1-16/qid=1162558628/ref=sr_1_16/102-7693233-1985749?ie=UTF8&s=books

Which has diagrams showing combat maneuvers used by the Luftwaffe.  Here is an american plane version (which I haven't read):

http://www.amazon.com/Luftwaffe-Fighter-Aces-Jagdflieger-Techniques/dp/0804116962/sr=1-16/qid=1162558628/ref=sr_1_16/102-7693233-1985749?ie=UTF8&s=books

Both books are by Mike Spick.
