All- I was just going to let this fall to the wayside, but unfortuanetly it's eating me up and was hoping to get some outside perspective.
I was in one of the late war arenas last night, flying a Spit8. We, the Knights, were attempting to take a Bish field. We had the numbers on them and achieved a cap fairly quickly. The FH were still up but no Bish chose to up under the CAP. I noticed the DAR in the Sector NE of us was showing uppers, so I proceeded to climb to the NE to intercept any fitrs that were inbound. I reached about 22k and was halfway between the 2 bish bases when I see 2 cons, both slightly lower than me, with about 6k of range between them. As the first fitr comes into icon range, angling directly toward me, it's a TYPH. As we merge I see that it's a TEMP. The second con is now within icon range and shows YAK. I oil the TEMP just before the YAK is within 1k. The TEMP makes like he is going to disengage/run and I opt to break for the YAK, but before I can commit, the TEMP doubles back. I'm afraid to take my eyes of the TEMP even though he is smoking because them guns are no joke on that thing. The 3 of us tangle for a couple mins and I get the TEMPs radiator and a fuel tank. He's smoked, steamed, and leaking. The YAK finally gets a solution on me and I go down. 2 secs later I get flamed gloriously on 200 for being an altmonkey SpitDWEEB NOOOOOOB for being at 20k in a Spit when the odds are so much in my favor. I'm thinking, wait, I climbed to 20k plus to intercept, was no where near any Knights, and engaged a TEMP and a YAK in a 2v1. Why am I a dweeb? The 2 proceeded to chastise me and name call until I finally did the same. Which was wrong. However, I guess I didnt get the memo on appropriate rules of engagement, or what was and what was not considered fair. I'm sure that had the situation been reversed, these 2 fine gentlemen would have let me return safely to my base and not have engaged me. So...
Would someone please enlighten me as to what planes I am allowed to fly, at what altitude I'm allowed to cruise at, and any other obvious rules of engagement that I am apparently supposed to be aware of.
Many thanks and <>!!!!

Just laugh it off. They were pissed because you spoiled their run and TEMP dweeb had to try and RTB before his plane came apart around him and he lost his perks.
Sounds like you did just fine:aok

Fly about 5K or lower in a 38G. No one grumbles at ya then :)

When you are fighting 1:2 vs. a Tempest and a Yak, it is clear you should be in a P-40B at least 10k underneath the two enemies. To do otherwise is taking advantage and invites -- nay, demands -- chastizement on channel 200 (which should include references to your fairness, your ancestry, your choice in clothing, and in most cases your body odor). That's just to be fair. A true sportsman would also fly with his gear down in the P-40B just to make sure he isn't crossing the line.
Seriously, my philosophy is that people should fly however they like and take advantage of whatever their circumstances are to shoot down the opponent. Any complaints like the ones you refer to are rediculous.

Brush it off Jolly. Sounds like you made some one sweat over their perks a little is all. as far as "Rules of Engagement" there are none unless your dueling some one and both of you have agreed upon what they are.

I know, and I tried. I kept saying to myself "Be the better man and just keep your mouth shut." But I've never much been one for getting name called and being able to keep my cool. Especially when you feel you are being wronged. I lasted much longer than I would have when I was younger.

Personally, I don't have the patience to climb up to 20K. If that had been me, you would have had to come down to kill me. LOL But that is beside the point.:D
I don't see where it matters what alt you fly nor the plane you choose. It is your AH subscription -- fly however you want. The truly important question..... why do you care what they think or say? And furthermore, if you are an alt monkey and they are up there with you, what does that make them?
Answer: An alt monkey's Be-otch!:lol
Hint: Tune out 200 and you don't have to worry about what they say or think.

How the heck are ya supposed to keep the martini cold at less than 20K??

You did nothing wrong and if they shot you down they woulda called you a noob because they got you. Turn 200 off or better yet kill em again but don't answer them on 200, just watch em get more angry till they log off. :)
Best case scenario is that they get so mad that they break something at their computer desk over it.

Lets review, Your a fairly known stick, def. not a noob, you upped with a horde, you chose a spit to attend the horde in & you were at 20k, in a spit, in a horde. It pretty clear you don't care what anyone thinks, but if you are looking for some similar minded people you have come to the right place. These boards are full of people like you that dont see anything wrong with being a seasoned player but still flyin training mode rides- in hordes at ridiculous alts. Oh youll get plenty of support on these boards, but NONE from me.:rofl

Uhhh.... not sure you and me read the same post.
He was alone, far from a hoard, and took on a Tempest and a Yak in a 2 on 1. Kudos to him for fighting it out.
What name do you fly under workerbee? Would love to see what you tend to fly.

2 things, for the record...
1. i was not anywhere near the horde when i engaged the TEMP. it was also a 2 vs. me situation.
2. i'm not a SPIT driver. i fly it occasionally, just like i occasionally fly a 109. i primarily drive the 38J, and i have been flying the Hurri Mki ALOT lately.

I just turn of 200 to avoid those verbal comments

No its a low alt Merlin 66 version of the Spit VIII, not a Merlin 70.
Saying that it produces it's best speed at 21k-22k.
XVI is also a Merlin 66 NOT a 266 as it should be.
Its FTH is 1000ft to low to be a Merlin 266.
So it is in fact an LF IXe not a XVI.
IX and V are both based on std Merlin 61 and 45/6 respectively better for higher alts.
XIV is a pure high alt beast based on the Griffon 65.
Saying all that and as the pseudo XVI and VIII are almost identical I don't know why they don't just give the VIII a Merlin 70 and extended wings. Would definately stand out from the crowd.

I was the Yak that shot him, he was with the horde when he left the hangar in a spit, & he was with the horde when he climbed to 20k. He did venture away from his 20 buddies to look for the 1-2 cons comin in from next base, but he dint venture very far from them. Maybe 15 miles at MOST. He claims to have fought us for a couple minutes, but it must have seemed longer for him, cause I killed him in 4 turns. Had it actually been a couple minutes, im sure his horde would have come to his rescue.
Aside from being AFK, I cant think of any reason for a multi year seasoned Vet to be in a spit at 20k when he has 10 to 1 odds in his favor in the sector. :aok If you can- it must SUCK to be you.
-
Sorry toon but this is a game and I cant think of any reason for an adult to start throwing verbal insults at another player cause their little cartoon aeroplane got some little cartoon bullets through it...
If you can.....
-
I STILL haven't gotten verbally abused (200 or PM or otherwise) for making a kill when CLEARLY it was absolutely impossible to beat their uber ElGay/Dweebfire. Not even when using my Corsair Wonder Flaps (TM) on the Spixteen kiddies. :cry :cry :cry
A whole year without a flame. It's not right!!
-
Well said Mussie.
I would just drink a beer and shine this on. No one likes to have insults hurled at them. Unfortunately however, there are those who do hurl insults at other players, usually when they think they should win the engagement and they don't, or you shoot up thier perk plane or whatever....
They can't be changed or avoided, so in order not to have one's fun spoiled by those who think that thier prowess in the aforementioned cartoon airplane translates into a larger chest or something, one must adapt . Just tune them out. They are not worth your time. There are plenty of good sports out there who are not this way. For those who are not by an established history of behavior such good sports, well, you know who they are and:
Insult and laff at them... privately with your buddies after you kill them and you know that they are cursing you and spitting on their monitor. Thats why we get kill messages, isn't it?
Then have another beer.:)
-
Porkfrog don't let people get the best of you. Don't worry about it that happens all the time. Best thing to do is let it go in one ear and out the other. Then up a plane and kill them again.
-
Next time tell em it was your seven year old daughter at the stick and next time they won't be so virtually fortunate!
Or don't bother tuning to 200 if you're expecting something better.
-
Why am I a dweeb?
Because you play Aces High ... it has nothing to do with flying a Spit at 20K ... :D
The 2 proceeded to chastise me and name call until I finally did the same.
Not surprised ... atypical 200 banter in LW.

Right on the nail Mussie - the key word is "adult". Nothing wrong with a bit of goading & p*ss taking prior to combat, but verbal insults after being shot down smacks of playground mentality poor loser.
Don't lose sleep Jolly, try more beer.

In LW having only a 2/1 advantage and no alt advantage was what made em so mad. It is really bad when someone will climb higher than they were.
As was said.. you should have been in a P40 or F4f at 10k... Why do you think those planes are available in the LW anyway? You should be flying them.
If you don't then you should have at least waited till they got into position for their runnway dives before you attempted to up so that they could have shown you some field capture strat.

Many classic examples of why the game is so crappy today. SOOOooooo many of you see nothing wrong with having 10 to 1 odds in a sector, being a multi year Vet & flying a 20k Spit. NO WONDER its so much easier to find a horde than a battle these days.
If the same situation happens again, I'll tell whoever the 20k spit Vet is, how much I think they suck for being That High in That plane with Those Numbers. How much advantage do you need/want? Maybe youd enjoy offline play then?:D
-
Atoon, so what yer saying is it's ok for you to be at 20K and attack 2v1. But, it's not ok for a singleton to be at 20K? Here's a question for you... you two were in pretty fast planes. Did you have to attack him? Are you saying you couldn't have flown off and attacked all those other planes that you had planned to climb above? So you attack him he gives you two a fight. You get pinged up but he dies. Are you trying to tell everyone that the guy is supposed to see you and turn tail and slow so you can shoot them down without a fight? A plane doesn't deserve to be at your altitude? It sounds to me that you think any plane that is at your high alt is an uber plane. Gimme a break! Who cares if its a Spitfire? Oh yeah, it's not ok to have a massive attack on your field because you have no idea what to do about it?
What's the matter with you? Learn how to fly! You're so worried about someone else when you're the problem. Wake up! It's a game. JoLLY played the game and fought the fight. You had an advantage but couldn't do it cleanly. That's it! It doesn't require lame whining. Learn to fly better. Don't complain about his flying, complain about your flying. How old are you 12? And, I appolgize to the 12 years olds flying. They don't whine.
How long have you been playing? 6 months? A year? Yet you have the nerve to tell everyone what's wrong with the Community? And just how bad it's gotten in 6 months? Compared to what? It seems to me you read a few things on the boards and think you've been here for that past 5 years so you can whine like a schoot girl who's had her candy taken away? Grow up.

Ren, perhaps you should take the time to actually read what has been written before you jump on the jolly ole bandwagon-
1) he attacked the temp, I helped a countrymen as I do no matter which side im flyin for.
2) I never took even a ping, I killed him quickly. He just thought with all his alt he could slash the temp & then worry about me.
3) We were that high because we were facing 10 to 1 odds, so naturally when I found 1 of the 20 to be even higher than us, and in a spit, I was a bit miffed. Had it been some newbie, I prolly wouldnt have said anything. But it wasnt a newbie in a 20k spit with 10 to 1 odds, it was a multi year vet. To me- he is the problem, I simply provided him with a solution, & some knowledge.

Here's your new rules of engagement.
Situation A:
If Ack is up, you are to takeoff, lift to 200 feet, go to half-throttle, and click on autopilot. Do not leave your seat, at all. When shot down, immediately re-up and repeat.
Situation B:
If Ack is down, you are to click the button to get on the runway. Turn off your engine. Wait patiently. When vulched, click on the runway button again.
This is the most important... when somebody collides with you or pancakes while you're doing this... you must immediately apoligize on 200 for forcing them to ram you (or the ground).
This is the only way you can make it fair for your opposition.

How many other conns were around during this fight?? I seem to recal in one of your other posts that he was "at least 15 miles" from the horde. Face it, even though he ended up getting shot down he still pwned you guys and your still mad about it.
By the way what were you doing all the way up there you alt monkey?:rofl

I dont see whats wrong with anybody at high alt. Nomatter what ride your in. High alt, low alt, It always seems there is some thing to complain about.
If you dont like the scenario then why do you bother to up at all? I agree that the spit driver fought the good fight against the temp and yak. I just dont understand what's so wrong about the hoards. I think its quite fun to come in at high alt wit my p-47 and swoop into the mass and try to get some of them. So whats the problem with one of the hoard lookin to intercept? You shot him down didnt you?

I gotta agree, turn 200 off... of course there are those that if you ignore them on 200, they feel it necessary to send you a PM and fill you in on all of the details that you ignored on 200.... thats why those people get an auto squelch as soon as I log on... and FYI..... sounds like you did what anyone else woulda done..... alt = life.....

I did read it. I know you weren't the tempie. The issue is you wanted to get above the odds. You found a high spit. A fight ensued. The tempie got pinged up even though both of you could have easily driven away. The fact that some guy was in a spitfire and was co or above makes you miffed? What difference does it make? Who cares what plane he is in? You say he is the problem. For having some fun?
You taught him a lesson? No, you got into a fight and won, 2v1 . That's it! He has to take off again. You continue on with your sortie. The tempie went and landed or died. Wake up! It's a game! That is what happens in the dogfight flight simulation game. The plane is available for anyone to use a guy who is flying on his first day or someone who's been around for 10 years. The altitude he flies at is limited by his own choice and the planes ceiling. What difference does it make? You guys are so worried about how high someone is above or what plane he's in that your forgetting to have fun.
The most amazing thing I got out of this is the childish attitude displayed. It's kinda like the boy that got a wonderful cake for his birthday but it's just not good enough. He wants another one only different and he's he gonna whine about it until his folks get it.
Here's an example of playing the game....
There's I was over Mucho Gusto, err, A27 or where ever. Im heavy in a Pony with DT's and 75% gas cause I plan to stay up awhile. The ride to the enemy field took a while so I went AFK and grab'd a beer. I got back upstairs and found I was at 13k so I leveled off and let my old honey accelerate to cruise speed. I see a dot a lil lower and figure I'll go have a looksee. As I close to icon range I see its a 163 in level flight around 1k below me. I immediately drop the extra tanks but know I'm heavy and he's already up with me. The lil 163 has a beautiful vertical and is turning nicely with me. He almost gets a shot off and I begin a straight down rolling scissors with him. We're slow and nearing the deck. I note the distance to their field is still only approx 2 miles away and we're lower, in a valley of sorts. I also note there are 4 other planes much higher. A D9, Nik and another pony and a spit. Our rolling scissors ends up in a draw with both of us popping out tail to tail. He's pointed in the direction of his field and I'm pointed in the general direction of home plate and slow. I keep and eye on him as he appears to want no more fight and notice both the D9 and the NIK are coming for me. I slowly pick up some speed as they continue to close. Another countryman shows up overhead and I ask if he minds forcing a break on the D9 as he was the real threat at the time. He acknowledges and calls in. The D9 breaks. I extend a bit to drag the Nik out alone and then reverse back into him. We merge and both go nose up trying to pull inside. We began on the deck both with enough speed when we went up. Halfway through the vertical fight I see the D9 is in on me and I'm forced to break hard as I take some pings. No damage but I pulled so hard and I'm pretty much still carrying 70% FOB that I snapped her. I began recovery but was too low and died a horrible death. Ouch! Did I whine about some guy flying a 163? Nope I did the best I could with what I had to work with. Did I whine when I got jumped after being forced down to stay alive? Nope. Did I whine when I got jumped by the higher guys. Nope. Did I whine because the D9 had the presence of mind to continue an attack on me even while he had my countryman with him? Nope. Did I whine when I snapped and didn't recover? Nope. I think the N1K got a prox kill. LOL. As I took off again I grinned and said to myself, "Damn, that was kinda fun!"
Do you see the basic difference in mindset? I came to have fun. If I get shot down then such is life in the virtual world of AH2. I was alone going to an enemy field knowing the odds could be anything. Didn't you take off and head to 20-1 odds? or even 20-2 odds (10-1 as you mentioned)? If so, what do you have to complain about?
Edited to mention I never said a word to any of those guys I fought with. We were all up there to have fun. No one had to chat up the fight when it ended. Lifes to short for that stuff and I only have X amount of time to enjoy the arena. I'll never spend it complaining about some fight. I will spend a lil grab'n anuther beer tho. :)

Iwould personally tune 200 off but so many times if I had a good fight or something it's nice to hit a key and make a remark about it more than the .S command can provide... I would just tune to them but having to type in the name hoping to get the spelling right and then having to type the message on top of it takes to long espetially if you only have a min to type befor the next engagement...
Hmm maybe some form of auto tune channel? If you do a .s (name) you could have one channel set to auto that would aoutomaticly tune to the person you just saluted? Then if you wanted to send a message you could by hitting the corrasponding key.
Or one that would tune to the guy you last shot down/shot you down... The system already tells you who it was that died/did the killing. then you would have no need to keep 200 tuned for easy quick communication through out the arena.
I think I like this last idea best. :)

People make derisive comments to other people after a cartoon engagement for one reason alone- to piss the other guy off. Just ignore those types, and have fun being a pathetic, alt monkey, no talent clown in a spit. ;)

Ahhh...the hypocrisy is strong in this dweeb....

LOL. 15 miles is quite a long way away when you're in a tight dogfight.
The hypocrisy is strong, indeed.

If you can.....
AND
You said: The whorde was 15 Miles away... Thats more than half a sector... he was NOT with the whorde as you have stated if he was 15 miles away from them.....
You and the other guy were in a Yak (one of the most manuverable planes in the game) and a temp (the fastest prop plane in the game) and if what I have read is correct he was in a Spit 8 it was not even a spit 16 nuff said on that...
SO... there was no potatod, You out numbered him, You were in planes that are as or more Uber than a Spit 8 and he shot one of you down. You then think that he deserves verbal abuse on 200....
And ontop of that unless I am mistaken he writes a post that does not contain any insults or BS and you reply with yet another insult....
And somehow you think he is a dweeb.....
:huh
This is a game DEAL WITH IT or go play MLP online...

pretty clear- the majority of people posting in this thread see nothing wrong with lifting a spit 22k with a massive numbers advantage. Cant say im surprised, seems to be the mindset of most players in the game as well.

Lifting a Spit to 22K and taking on a Tempest and Yak with the closest friendly being 15 miles away ... It might just be me ... but I see nothing wrong with that.
He was twice the distance of visually seeing a viable dot in the sky and also twice the distance from range vox so no one to call for help ... hardly a case of "flying with the horde".

Ohoh, you weren't the guy in the 163? I hope you made it home. :) You didn't catch any fire from me. I never got my nose around.
The point I was trying to make is get up and fight. If you lose the fight ok you lost. Get up and try again. You feel better than if you cry foul because someone else was doing exactly the same thing you would have done (you being ya'll:)). In fact, reading the response, that's exactly what they were trying to do. Opps, got caught and won. Then whine? MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Dont worry Ren. I just liked the way you told about the fight and I made a new post with a memorable one of my own.

porkfrog, next time do it in an La-7. It has a higher Whine Value than even a Spit, so it's a lot more fun.
The alternative is to take a Spit, fly it directly into a dar bar, straight on the deck at 3k, with a full tank and bombs at stall speed, and die. THAT will get you lots of respect and make you feel like a real man.

Porkfrog, this is ultimately what the trash talking boiled down to... The two uber planes (as they have been called by others) went up at 20K because they wanted to come over and and BnZ the horde for a few quick kills and then run for home. Unfortunately for them, you were up there already and thwarted their dastardly defense plan. :D Therefore, you are one of the destructive masses who are ruining the game by "not playing the way they think you should."
Oh, and for the record, they can say they didn't get "pwned" (whatever that means), but the fact that you forced one to RTB immediately and the other to fight and then RTB means that you STOPPED their plan... you may have gotten shot down, but strategically speaking you still won the engagement.
